Electronic Poker Tables @ Georgian Downs Slots

Heard that they got them running on Thursday, just wondering what kind of games are running there if anyone knows? And what the rake is?

  • Id be very interested In knowing this as well. I'm about 5 min from there, also, would these be the same as the ones they used to have in casino de Montreal or are they like a slot form of poker?
  • Hey guys!

I am just a few minutes away as well. I Not have been there in months myself so interested in knowing this as well
  • If you're so close why don't you just go by and tell us what you discover?
  • We prolly could. I'm busy this weekend but....

Phil, where exactly are you located?

I'm just off innisfil beach road right behind the no frills.

I've only been there maybe 3 times max, I've never seen any value in dumping money into slot machines, I'm the I've that will put my name on a waitlists in a poker room and go wait in my car and listen to music for 45 min until I'm called
  • Confirmed!

They have 3 tables, all electronic, obv, made by poker tek or poker pro.

Tues evening at 6 there was no one playing. They said they mainly run 1/2, but also weren't very sure as they just got them a week ago as to all the exact games they'll run, they also run daily from 6pm-3am, ( possibly why no one was playing when I went)

Don't know rake or anything else for that matter really, kinda walked in and out, I would assume though that rake would be slightly less as compared to live tables and also no tipping, faster, and no dealer errors.

    Should be Interesting.
  • And they are at race tracks !! The games would have to be so soft if they filled up with the regular horse bettors.
  • I was there last night. They play very fast so though the rake is $5.00 max per hand it still removes a lot of money from the table in an hour. There were only experienced players at the table when I was there. Likely checking it out as I was. It will work but don't think that $50.00 will last you long.
You have to set up an account that is exclusive to the Poker Pro table into which you deposit your stack. Your Winner's Circle card becomes your ID to sit at the table. At that point you have access to your deposit and can put as much as you would like on the table and begin to play.
They run well and have cleaned up the graphics from when I first played them 7 odd years ago in Florida.
They should start afternoon tournament as they do in many places to fill the tables.
  • So I was able to finally head out to there, to let you guys know that the tables are only open from 6 p.m.- 3 a.m. as mentioned above.

    10 seats a table, ugh!.

So you are sitting infront of a screen, so I guess you cover the screen with your hands so the guys sitting beside you can't see your cards? Or how does that work, lol.

I played at Mohwak last night. You cover your cards and tap the screen to see them. no one can see your cards. Once you remove your hand from the screen, the cards disappear.

it is very easy to play, and most of the players buy in for the min. of $50, which they burn through very quickly. You will find out, very quickly, who can play and who cannot. FWIW, I won $300 in 4 hours, and I don't consider myself a good cash player.
  • Long wait dj?

they had one table going when i showed up at 8pm. They open up another one when there are 6 players waiting. The third table never opened. I'm sure it will get busier, once word spreads.
  • Thanks for the update. For yourself, did it feel like online poker or slightly more social than that?

    Much more social than online.
  • If plans go the way I'd like them too, going to head out to Mohawk this evening.
  • So, can you just slide bills into these tables, or do you have to get a Players card? If the Players Card, then you have to cash it out again later, right? No option to print out a receipt like on the slots?

  • So, basically, one extra step to get your money in and one extrat to get it out again, if I read that correctly.

Not really, you load your card at the cashier, just like buying chips, then cash out all your winnings (hopefully) at the cashier after you finish.
  • Didn't make it there tonight...road tour someday soon.
  • Hey all,

I'm a supervisor at Western Fair District and helped to train the staff who are working these tables at all the racetrack locations.

I've been running the Fair's room for about a year.

The tables at all slots (except ours) run 1/2 NL. The tables are capable of running fixed limit and pot limit games as well. I would suggest you put in comment cards with suggestions, as the games only take a three day approval process to be set up by the staff.

    I digress.

The tables themselves operate using 10 touch screens. One per player. The hole cards are dealt face down and only appear when a player is cupping their hands over the small area on the screen.

The table deals and shuffles quickly. We see about 45-50 hands per hour on average.

Rake at all locations is set at 10 percent to a maximum of five dollars.

These tables are also capable of running tournament play. Western Fair will be piloting this in September, and their template will be used at all other locations. As well, 1/2 Pot Limit Omaha runs at Western Fair on these tables on Wednesday nights, and you should be seeing these profiles appearing at the other games soon, as well.

The tables can run 7 card stud, Omaha high low, Omaha, and Hold'em. All money is kept on an account linked to your players card. You require a piece of photo ID to sign up (your healthcard DOES NOT work. You need a passport, drivers licence, or healthcard coupled with a birth certificate).

As far as I'm aware --as I kind of helped set these rooms up-- they all allow phone ins 90 mins in advance.

I hope this answers your questions.
  • Thanks for the info.
  • I've played there twice now and enjoyed the game. Best 1/2 rake around. Especially since it doesn't have to round to dollars so there's $0.25 increments of rake. The terminals are easy to use and you can set preferences for auto muck, always chop, UTG straddle, etc... Once you get a card and open an account, it's easy to put on and take off money. Only played twice but the games were pretty soft. Unfortunately the tables are only open from 6pm to 3am and both nights I was there the tables were pretty short by 1am. There are some people who like to buy in short more frequently than I've seen at other cash games. Two night sample size mind you.
  • Uh .25 increments of rake is worse for the players. Duh.
  • i have a problem with electronic gaming tables. places like western fair got into places like London by making a lot of promises about helping the economy, paying lots of taxes and creating jobs. I don't know why they can't hire dealers to run regular poker and black Jack tables, but from what i understand they aren't licensed to have table games, or something to that effect. so why are they allowed to skirt this rule and put in an automated version that takes away a job opportunity from a guy like me who would be more than happy to deal black Jack or poker for minimum wage? it kind of feels like a promise was broken all those years ago when these tables first came out.
  • I live 4 minutes away - have played the tables 6 or 7 times now. I did not like them at first but there are always positives and negatives to consider. In my opinion you have the best of both worlds - online and live. You have the speed and accuracy of online (electronic) with the live players there to give off all their information - which they do repeatedly. From a purely monetary perspective you can slip out there and do a 3-4 hour session which would be 6-8 hours at Rama and make (or lose LOL) the same amount in half the time. The incremental rake (.25) while annoying is max. $5 and there is no tipping the computer - so that is a wash. The game is still social - so all the social fish come out to "try it". I like the organtic nature of real live poker - chating up the fish, shuffling chips, staring at people ... LOL ... so I am not a fan of electronic poker ... but now that I have played there more and figured out the way people play the game there more, I am very happy that this hybrid is only 4 minutes away >:D
  • At one point I went to the Western Faire in London and they informed me I was not allowed to play poker - only the slot machines.

Did a small piece on this a couple weeks ago, News | All Ontario Poker. Most of the electronic tournaments should be in our database (up to the end of January). OLG has yet to update the February tournaments. I guess they want to see how successful they are during the first two months of introduction.

Western Fair has excellent deep stack tournaments every month with only 4% rake, including June 30. I played my first OLG Slots tournament there and cashed. You will eventually need to have your ID replaced, so you may as well do it sooner to play low-rake poker instead of slots.
