Question regarding Ontario games

Are the games straight? I'm not saying anything, it's just I worry about card mechanics who know how to stack the deck etc. Not like anyone would admit it if they weren't straight but has their been any history of this sort thing going on? Thanks in advance guys.

  • Well...

Not sure where you're at, but here in SW Ontario, every game I've been to seemed legit. More detail may have been a bit helpful.

I live in Georgetown. In Halton region. I only play online and at a casino but have just found out about these home games. So I'm just trying to figure out what's going on...lol. Seems like a nice option for me and the wife instead of driving to Brantford every time we want a live game. Btw I dig the candy machines you've got there...haha.
  • used to be a great 1/2 game in Georgetown at the Masonic temple; if you are playing 1/2, don't think you have to worry about the game being fixed. Its not worth the effort IMO.

Hrm, I see. I'll look around for some games. Maybe you're right. It's just the first thing I think of. Some less then moral souls trying to fleece the others. It would probably be dangerous for them though as more than one person would have something to say about it I'm sure.
  • You'll find more people cheating online then at a good home game. At least in KW :)

I'm sure you're right. I have yet to experience a real home game but I look forward to it soon. Seems like a good amount of fun. Do you find the players better than online or at a B/M Casino?

Well, maybe not all, but most of them are FAHBULOUS !!!

As with all things poker, it depends. You will find the same sort of mix as you would in a B/M game, perhaps slightly skewed more towards skill (unless I'm there) as the players take it more seriously than a tourist might. also, depending on where you go, you might be playing against people who have won decent sized tournies in Canada, cashed at the WSOP . . . hell, somewhere around this dump there's even a bracelet winner, not to mention a couple "knew him when" former members. Take a look around, and get yourself an invite. you'll love it.
  • If you end up at a game posted in this forum, you'll have a great time. I have been to most of the regular games here and every one of them has been great.

There are a decent mix of players but eveyone is very friendly.

Now I just need to figure out how to configure my HUD for these games and I'll be all set....hrmmm....
  • I hate to say it, but there is always one or two bad apples out there. I had problems with three people at my game. These people do not come any more. Out of the 400 players that have come through and played in my game I like the percentage. I found most people are great and honest when playing a home game and there are several good ones out there.
  • Highly recommend Nitros Friday game in Cambridge... I can't seem to get much luck there but a good game with lots of poor players nonetheless..
  • from my limited experience at PF home games i would the games are straight.....but with any game the odd time some one may angle shoot....but i dont see it happening much...word gets around..
  • After last night, there is a lot of talk about the HPT being fixed. Don't believe it though. Just good playing IMO.:D
  • I agree with the other posts on here that all home games I have attended are totally above board. Lots of great people and a whole lot of fun. I have now run 36 multi table tournaments and have only had a problem with one player. I banned him for excessive alcohol abuse around 30 tournaments ago and have not had a problem since. I too, like that percentage.
  • any high stakes game is either raked to hell or u have to worry about cheating or both. low stakes games u dont rly have to worry about.
  • Meistro take off your tinfoil hat and let's play hu

Yeah, it's a juicy game. Mostly casual players so the field is pretty soft. I've experienced some gross suckouts, but the profit is well worth the effort.

I hear you yell at everyone? :wink2:
  • I'm also not a big fan of Brantford, but that has more to do with the game then the room. The room is amazing and well run. I'm not a big fan of LHE and much prefer NLHE. Have you tried the NL game in Niagara? There's 2-5+ games at Fallsview and a constantly running 1-2 game at Casino Niagara. Best thing about playing there is your usually playing at a full table and its very easy to beat the rake. I've been to a few home games with rake and it can be real steep, killing the action.

I dunno about that. I heard the last winner was a real luckbox. Must have been a fixed deck! HA HA

GREAT GAME and atmosphere -and free candy
  • GREAT GAME and atmosphere -and free candy

    That's not what Candi says . . . ^-^
  • As per forum games, they are done quite well, I havent been to many but head off to enough BCC tourneys, they suck with people who wont let go of things and dont know when they are beat, twice in a row I get eliminated by someone who puts in his chips as 10 to 1 dog approx and I lose, such is poker.....as per forum, the quality far out goes the quantity IMO, enjoy! Just do not sit beside me, I am constantly trying to learn the game!
  • I have had some ppl trying to cheat at a couple of games i go to (the same ppl at both games) It can really be annoying as there are not alot of games advertising around my area. We (those not cheating) are telling the hosts as a group we are not going to play with them. I sugest when fist going to a new game use caution. Not that u should ever thow your money away but table/game selection is key. If you think someone is cheating either tell the host or don't play there.

cash games are always dangerous -cheating united friends and teams
and the possibility of a real bad nightmare river night even in a real game---but our style of small elimination tournaments reduces that and as a club -every member can speak their mind about anything questionable
  • I have played in forum games hosted by SteveKerr, crazykoby, STR82ACE, Buzzzard, JonnieH, Wetts1012, The Prophet 22/Dataman and have nothing but glowing reviews from every one of them. Never experienced any funny business at the games and if you go to a bunch of these games, you'll see the same faces, and again, all swell guys and gals that play in these games
  • I too have played opt and designed our club with similarities and more
  • the games where i have been playing and experenced cheating are not any of the games listed here. I have not had the pleasure of playing ye' al yet.
