Don't think your coming across as implying the field is bad and your far from the first who comes from online to find live a much softer game theory wise. Timex said it flat out while in Calgary last. It's the very reason to play live tournaments, more dead money (like mine)
ya i know now to approach it differently. Or was it that i was hanging out with some broad and it was costing my 200 bux an hour to leave the casino?

The top guys, think you will find some of the names in the pre series thread also consistent. Dennis picked them out easily and yes as was said in this thread, it would be foolish to assume that everybody was soft.

Ya the first of your boys you introduced to me, N., was one of the late guys creating the upcoming dead blinds at my table. When he showed up a soon after I felt all that better about the shove because the table got a lot harder i thought.

I also played in the same tourney earlier with another guy you were sitting with, he was heads up with wetts once live maybe or 3 handed (not sure if thats true). but i felt like he was a stronger player at my table and i could avoid him, didn't see any real hands from him though.

There was one I would love to introduce you to, he is funny as hell to listen to him spew out the online jargon than put it in simple live terms, eg, "his VPIP is x balh blah...what I think is this nit is tight as fuck and if I raise he'll fold". Or "I don't give a shit what the ICM says, the way I see it is I am going to take this above average stack and gonna keep shoving into all your asses until I am happy with my payday.". he is not fondof the words inelastic, vacuum or blockers run into one sentence as an excuse for making a completely wrong call and 3 outing
    him either, lol.
yes i learn fast from someone who sees it that way. but even though he doesn't know the numbers or better said he doesn't care, his card valuations are likely better than mine. thats the way i put it anyways. its suggest he would catch on to other card games faster than me. I have a bro who plays black jack who 'gets' the cards in poker better than me (well not as much now. but it also suggests if i learned other card games i'd be better at poker.

Long story short, darbday, keep playing these and you'll prob make a ton of money. It's too bad you didn't final table as I think your impression of the players ranges would have changed when it got deeper stacked ITM.
no no...i know that. the players at my tables ranges weren't so off, it was just that many had no concept of shoving stack sizes. too much raise folding with too few bbs. its just in this hand i felt i got to rep a really strong hand. but ya i woulda looked forwad to the play when down to 2 and 1 tables.

Come the last event, guys are usually looking to get something going fast or go home or are clamed up tight trying to get unstuck, not to mention feeling the effects of the booze and long nights.
    amen
  • It was awesome you guys came out, hope you come again. I need to drag my ass to BCPC, although it would be a field I wouldn't care to play and more likely to just enjoy Van and any small games.

The guy that played Wetts heads up is Joel B, I watched the whole final table and they were pretty damn even heads up. They played a few sick hands. Joel is prob the most consistent player we have right now with about 200k cashes the last few years and won the same series in Calgary back to back for 50k plus each time then the third year choped for 25. The guy he learned from is Karim and he took second in the 5k HU one year for 125k then the same series as Joel previously back to back for 100k both times. Each time the fields were 300 to 450+. Karim also trained Nav. In
all the ten or so guys that hang out together are also the top ten money earners in Alberta according to Hendon. Doug Lee is also part of this group when he is in town, love him or hate him. They are my poker heroes out
here. "rask88" also used to be part of their crew. Mostly
they all play 10/25 NL and 25/50 pot now outside of tourneys. (not Nav)
Ron and Bo also have their fair of 10k plus cashes, but Ron couldn't make it out. He had a TV table at RiverRock when WPT Canada was around. He was the CPT Points champion in 2008, Comely in 2009, he shipped a BCPC for like $140,000 and is def top 5 in Alberta. Todd Hunter is our online braniac, he makes my head melt, but the guy walks to almost every final table in the few live events he plays. He chopped with Gavin a few months back and made day five his first shot at WSOP main. Shane Brotherwood has a bunch of rings, he plays everywhere in the country, prob the most travelled Canadian felt player I know. Sanborn, the guy with the bike bet and TJ are best buds, the last few in the group and they pick up their fair share of wins.

Glad you got to meet some of them, nice to throw some AB names out once in awhile, we know who a bunch of you west and easterners that slay are, lol.

Now back to crunching FTOPS results....blah!!!

Kai kinda does his own thing, one of the nicest guys I have met and prob the best all around player in Alberta, few tourney players close like Joel, but cash game doubt anyone could touch him.

    Looking forward to next one!
