Summer Liveaments

What tournaments are coming up in Canada for the summer? Looking specifically for 1k+ buyins, and 2k+ or multiple 1k's if it's outside of Ontario. Getting the itch to play live lately but exams are keeping me down until the end of April (maybe gonna try to squeeze in the Great Blue Heron 1k if possible).

Good, since I can't play until May anyways :P
  • Things are pretty quite, but Senca just across the border has a series in may. The most intresting thing about to happen on the live scene is Playground Poker is supposed to announce full details on a series that runs april 29th to may 14th and will end with a 3k. they are saying it will be the most action the east has seen

They just got 186 for their 1k 2 day event with little notice, 30k start stacks so you know the structure will be good. Rake wise, they took 18,600 out of the 186,000

Trying to get full details now, e-mailed their CEO. Montreal is a good change and not too bad for you travel wise. Also hearing 4 aces is under new ownership and that they will try to re enter the market with a bang, so would expect they will try to cross schedule against playground.

I keep looking at CPT schedule, but it looks like nobody is planning against WSOP. Grey eagle has the multiday 550 in Calgary with 10k seat added and edmonton has 3 event end of april, thread for western canadian championship should also be up here.

    Hope it helps.

See Alberta section for tourney details
  • Looks like Grey Eagle in Calgary May 7 & 8 they are running WSOP super sat, but buy in is NA as of right now.

May 11,12,13,14th are $500 buy-in "Road to WSOP" with top 10% advancing to Sunday the 15th. (Previous years format)

They have always broke 300 entries over the qualifying days so for a $500 Decent prize pool, my got friend got 18k for second, another $5200 for 5th, final table was very deepstacked and played well into the night. Also in the past the 10k wsop seat was added, taken from other rake, so didn't reduce the prize pool any. Think it might actually be 12k with some travel money but not sure.

Also since i didnt mention earlier, playground did throw in a fancy bracelet in their 1k.

Will try to get grey eagle structure.
  • Playground has a $750 deepstack on May 7th and a $3,000 deepstack on May 14th
  • oh sick, is there a link to info on these playground tourneys? I went to their site but couldn't find any info. Really liking the sounds of that 3k deepstack :)

I was just there and picked up the card with the schedule, but it doesn't say length of levels or starting stacks.

Here is there number if you want to call them.
    514-700-0300
  • I found all the info on the playground series. It is on their webpage.

Just scroll down on their home page to the calendar and change the date to when the tournament is and it will show you all the details
  • They just threw up a direct link:
    Classic

Also a 32 max HU, look like the 3k is 3 days too, let us know what events look Iyo
  • Winnipeg bru. Its only one weekend. Ul still pass.

No need to worry about the structures. Heard a rumor that these Grey Eagle events were cancelled. Checked CPT site schedule and they are now gone.

Called the room they said they figured they were. Had a friend call a manager, he said they are.

Calgary sure has had taken a 180. From the most medium limit MTTS to nil fields and series in a hurry.

COPC is rumored to be scheduled for August, curious to if players will come back. Hearing some posters are up for it maybe.

Playground has only had two events of their Classic, but so far it has been very well attended. They had 337 players for their $150 event over the weekend and tonight's event is sold out.

They are expecting about 150 for the $750 this weekend.
  • Anything in Edmonton over the Civic long weekend?

If you're talking of the August long weekend......there was this one last year:

I assume they'll run it again, but haven't heard for certainty.
  • I have the schedule, picked up the pamphlet, will get it posted up. It's last few days in July for sure.

That's the one - if they run it this year I might have to play an event or two.
  • 2011 schedule posted, also started a new thread in Alberta poker. With this being a few months away, could be a good PFC member turnout, there was a half dozen of us last time anyway.

Casino Yellowhead 2nd Annual Klondike Classic Poker Tournament
  • id do it
  • Vekked is sitting with 37k at dinner break with avg about 47k in Playground $3000 ME
He has had a couple swings and missed a huge pot in a big draw, but we all know by next break he could be chip leader. 54/75 remain. Anh Van Nguyen, Pascal LaFrancois, Gavin Smith a few of Pro's in field. Pascal has been holding chip lead since early on.
Timex bought a good chunk of Vekked it looked like, so that should help with run good since Mike has a great track record with picking big finish horses. My $25=$500 if he can ship the almost $75k on top. GL! GL! (following his updates on FB)
  • He doubled twice, now sitting 105k with 44/75 left, about 90bb deep at 600/1200.
    Here comes the run good!
  • Boss is up to 139k, almost double average, 34/75 remain. They play 2 more levels today, then down to final tomorrow, so game is moving quite fast despite 40k start stacks and 1 hour levels. Spektah also still in for those that know him.

Liking this!! Got a few pieces myself :)
  • Big day today! Vekked has advanced to day two with about 140k, above average but the field is all sitting pretty close and deep. 20 of 75 remain, chip leader has 330k.

They play down to final today, pretty sure 8 spots will pay, maybe a full ten?

Anyway, our boy says he thinks they are only paying one ;), and is set on the 75k first place. Good luck to him, cards fly again in 3 hours.
  • 17 left, Vekked at 167k! They are dropping Day 3 and playing to completion.
  • Lady luck is a biaaatch!!!!
Vekked out in 10th on money bubble. JJ vs AK in 400k pot that would have had him in sweet position to win. Next hand guy doubles with AK vs JJ, then a half hour later Anh Van Nguyen flips AK vs JJ, and Pascal flops set. Now LaFrancois is at almost a million chips and huge leader. The guy just made a million plus last WSOP and he runs like god from the short stack and Mr Vekked loses a pivotal flip. I hate poker for at least the next two hours.
  • Booo, sorry I couldn't come through guys, it was pretty disappointing since it was basically the worst result possible, but that's how it goes, nothing I haven't had happen dozens of times online. It sucks that I had so many opportunities to cash as well and ran pretty awful as far as other shortstacks doubling a few times on the bubble and still having a couple 10bb stacks when I busted, but ah well. Mostly would've liked to get some money back for ppl who bought action, but maybe next time.
  • Great run!
  • Vekked, you play great and was nice to see you prove that even more live against some, tough, tough opponents. 2 bracelet holders and a former patched PS pro. Not a walk in the park by any stretch to get as far as you did. If that hand held, I am positive you would have gone the distance.

Was It you that ended up stacking Gavin?

As far as your BAP customers go, can’t wait to have the opportunity to do it again, hopefully for something significant. You played like we all wanted you to, while a min cash is obv better than the bubble any day as far as walking away with something for your trouble, for everybody to make money worthwhile, mainly you , 5th or better was needed and you were clearly playing to win. If anybody wanted a couple of points on 4.5k all they need to do is BAP of you any night of the week online J
    Much impressed by your performance!
On a side note Pascal ended up winning. One of my WSOP picks, but as far as this tourney goes, would have been much happier to see an up and comer get a break and bankroll boost. It’s crazy that all the skill in the world still only takes you as far as that one pivotal flip, but as you said Vekked “that’s poker”.
