$100 buyin is my limit for the current bankroll.

    Good luck getting this going.
  • sounds good, hope you get it going
  • I kind of had the number 50 in mind. Let us know how it goes.
  • I Would Like To Create A Golf And Country Club Feeling For You The Poker Players. I Have Never Liked Basement Or Underground Poker Games .this Will Be A Club Or Organization For You Guys.

When This Is Done Properly This Could Turn Into A Great Club For Poker Players Of All Experiences.

Im Looking Into Having Memberships. I Dont Want Any Low Lifes Or Degenerates Bottom Line. No Drugs Or Smoking At The Tables. There Is A Gorgeous Patio 3 Seconds From All The Tables. There Is Floor To Ceiling Tinted Windows. Very Private Yet Not Constricting. Huge Gala Ballroom With 10 Poker Sized Tables And Chairs.

Full En Suite Kitchen, Television. Two Tiered Design Main Playing Area. Absolutely First Class All The Way.

Im New In This Though I Am A Player. But I Demand That This Is Done First Class All The Way.

I Appreciate The Replies Guys. Any Opinions Or Things You Would Like To See In A Poker Setting Will Be Looked At Fully.

Dont Be Shy All Ideas Are Good Ideas
  • How Can You Be Careful Enough To Put Initial Caps on Every Word? It Is Hard Not To Slip Up...
  • I know about 10 guys who would be intetested in this tourny, keep us posted.
  • are you looking at this as a tournament only club?? i ocudl think of nothing better than to be able to just go there and be able to join a cash game any time. is that idea even legal?

    but i am definately interested.

any guess on how much nenbership would cost??

    thanks,
    John@singlethreat.com
  • This Will Be Very Successful I Am Sure Of It.

But It All Begins With What You Guys Want/need In A Mens/womens Poker Lounge.

How Often Do You Want To Play In A Downtown Tourney? Once A Week, Once Every 2 Weeks. Once A Month. More/less

What Day/s Do You Prefer To Play On? What Time To Begin/end?

What Buy In Amount Do You Prefer? Add On's/ Re-buys? ( I Have A Structure In Mind Already On That)

Do You Want Alcohol There? This Is A Non Smoking Lounge. Is That Cool With You?

I Will Have 2 Surveillance Cameras On Site To Keep Things In Line And To Resolve Any Disputes.

Is Everyone Cool With Paying A Small Fee Per Tourney To Cover Food Expenses. Drinks. Security. Also Tell Me What Sort Of Food You Would Like To Have . Also Beer Or Hard Drinks. Im Sure We Will Have A Good Assortment.

Drinks Will Not Be For Sale Day Of Tourney. If You Want Alcohol Drinks I Will Work Out The Best System For That.

    Thanks Guys. Lets Hear More
  • John Im Looking Onto Different Options.

I Dont Like The Idea Of Having Strangers Walk In Off The Street. Very Very Risky. Plus Our Set Up Here Really Cant Cater To That Option Thank God.

We Will Have Side Money Tables For Guys That Go Out Early. Again Still Looking At Options.

I Want To Make Sure That The Guys Playing Are On The Up And Up.

Right Now We Are Gathering Info, Talking To The Players At Different Sites And Throwing All The Info And Feedback Into The Computer. We'll See What It Spits Out.

I Just Want A Great Set Up So All The Players Are Very Happy . I Want People To Join This And Forget About Work Or Nagging Wives/husbands And Just Have A Great Time And Hopefully Win Some $$$. Once We Get This Going It Will Run Itself But I Want To Implement A Perfect System.

Thanks John , If You Have Any Other Ideas Throw Them At Me
  • This wont be a "walk-in" and join a game anytime setup, mainly because we both work Fulltime and cant devote fulltime to running a room like that.
Im also helping Teamcanada with this, and can vouche for the High-end quality accomadations.
Noone can just walk in the building let alone get to where we will be playing. Hopefully (with interest) this can be weekly or at least a bi-weekly event.
Feedback on Buy-ins and best days to accomadate the most people, also if you have a tourney structure you have seen or used any feedback is great.

I can be reached at GMLithium@hotmail.com, Email or messenger.
  • thanls for the quick response. i personally think any night aftre 5, and good buy-ins would be between $50 and $100. not everyone can spill $200 a week right?

i'm sure everyone woudl be cool with a small fee, although memberships woudl be a good idea too.

    thanks guys,
    johnny

  • I'd likely play one weeknight in a smaller buyin limited-duration tourney per week. Your location is perfect for me after work.

Also maybe one higher buyin longer-duration tourney on a weekend per month.

Membership fee? I dunno. If you want to take a small rake from each tourney that would be ok but I guess you want to clear the players beforehand.
  • my thought was a membership fee instead of a rake. i dunno, just an idea right?
  • Sounds very interesting, keep us posted!
  • Very interested! email info@grahaminglis.com
  • I'd be interested and I would have 1-2 buddies that would be into it also. I wouldn't play every week but once or twice a month at $50 - $100 would be good.
  • i think weekly or bi-weekly. i prefer weeknights as well, again after 5pm, and i would know a few ppl who would be interested. also i think 50/100 buy-in is a little better, but then again thats just cause im poverty-stricken
  • Membership fee? I dunno. If you want to take a small rake from each tourney that would be ok but I guess you want to clear the players beforehand.

POKERFCE THATS EXACTLY WHY I LIKE THE MEMBERSHIP FOR THE PLAYERS. EASIER TO ORGANIZE. MORE LEGIT. WE CAN SET UP A WEEKNIGHT ONE. WHAT HOURS? THE BALLROOM CLOSES AT MIDNIGHT.

ITS LOOKING LIKE $100 BUY IN WITH 30 FEE COVERAGE WILL BE THE WAY WE GO. IS THAT COOL WITH YOU GUYS. WE WILL HAVE A HOSTESS ALSO, AND A BEAUTY.

WE ARE ALSO THINKING OF HAVING A RAFFLE. $2.50 EACH TICKET. YOU GET 1 BEER OR DRINK AND A CHANCE TO WIN A POKER PRIZE WITH EACH TICKET. THIS SEEMS LIKE THE WAY I WOULD LIKE IT IN A TOURNEY. OPINIONS WILL BE NOTED.

NOW FOOD WISE. IM A PIZZA/LASAGNA GUY BUT I WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS WOULD WANT. AND AGAIN WE NEED TO STAY WITHIN REASON. IF WE GET PRIME RIB AND LOBSTER WE WILL NEED TO ADJUST THE MEMBERSHIP FEE. OPINIONS

HOW LONG DOES THE AVERAGE 60 MAN TOURNEY WITH UNLIMITED 1ST HOUR RE-BUYS TAKE?

WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO YOU IN A TOURNEY?? THANKS GUYS THIS WILL BE GOING ON VERY SOON I PROMISE
  • hey this sounds very good, i would be interested in coming to the games every other week or something cause of my location. would this be a sig-up for every time it happens, like would we have to sign up and let you know we are coming cause that would be best to keep walk-ins from happening all the time and woud it always be tournaments or would you have just regular days where we can buy out at a certain time?

    thanks
  • WE CAN SET UP A WEEKNIGHT ONE. WHAT HOURS? THE BALLROOM CLOSES AT MIDNIGHT.
I'd say start 6:30 or 7. That gives you 5 hours to complete a tourney. Not great but hey, I gotta get some sleep for work anyway...
ITS LOOKING LIKE $100 BUY IN WITH 30 FEE COVERAGE WILL BE THE WAY WE GO. IS THAT COOL WITH YOU GUYS. WE WILL HAVE A HOSTESS ALSO, AND A BEAUTY.
100 is the most I would want to 'invest' for the buy-in. If you are talking rebuys and an add-on, then maybe 50-75. $30 fee is a bit on the steep side but I guess that is a factor of your costs, the number of entrants and the amount of profit you need to make. Hostess is nice but not high on my priority list.

Sounds ok. You are already breaking the laws on the poker front, so why not the liquor too? In for a penny, in for a pound, eh? Mind you, I'm willing to bet they'd be more likely to come after you for the liquor violations.

Not sure. If you are charging $30, the food should be pretty good. I've never been to a tourney with a fee so I can't speak on this. Others can for sure.
HOW LONG DOES THE AVERAGE 60 MAN TOURNEY WITH UNLIMITED 1ST HOUR RE-BUYS TAKE?
This question concerns me a bit since I figured you would have the answers to these kind of things. The first hour is a throw away. How long it takes after that is a factor of how fast you move the blinds up and how efficient you are at moving people, breaking up tables and 'colouring up' the chips. And of course, player breaks. It can be done in 5 hours if you want. I don't know how happy the serious players will be if the blinds move up too quickly. You gotta give the final table at least an hour I figure. Maybe even longer. So you gotta get down to 8-10 people by 10:30ish.
WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO YOU IN A TOURNEY??
In no particular order: facilities, good tourney director, security, players that are 'controlled', documented rules, decent blind structure. Basically, I need to know if I'm willing to put up 200 bucks or so for an evening of poker that it's not a half-baked plan run by a couple of bozos. I'm not saying that's what this is by any stretch but you have to convince people it's going to be well-run.

    Good luck. Keep us posted.

I HAVE TALKED TO A FEW PEOPLE AND THEY SAY THAT A FRIENDLY POKER NIGHT IS FULLY LEGAL. AS LONG AS ITS NOT 7 DAYS A WEEK. THAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED A GAMING HOUSE. AND AS LONG AS NO PROFIT IS MADE.

HE ALSO STATED THAT IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO HAVE ALCOHOL ON SITE ( WE ARE NOT SELLING ALCOHOL REMEMBER). THE $2.50 FOR THE RAFFLE TICKET WILL NOT STATE ON IT THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A BEER/DRINK. ITS JUST A RAFFLE BETWEEN FRIENDS. THE ALCOHOL IS JUST MY WAY OF SAYING THANK YOU TO MY POKER BUDDIES.

    HAVE I BEEN INFORMED CORRECTLY?

AND TO YOUR CONCERN ABOUT THE TIME THE TOURNEY WOULD TAKE QUESTION. I COULD HAVE LIED TO YOU GUYS AND SAID IVE RUN HUNDREDS OF TOURNEYS BUT I HAVENT RAN 1. BUT I KNOW WHAT IT TAKES AND IM ALSO A GOOD LISTENER. AND HONEST TO BOOT. I UNDERSTAND YOUR CONCERN THOUGH. ILL MAKE IT SO ALL OF YOU WILL RETURN ON A REGULAR BASIS I PROMISE THAT.

IM QUITE CONFIDENT THIS WILL ALL WORK OUT GREAT FOR ALL INVOLVED.

IM GOING TO CONTACT A LAWYER AND ASK HIS ADVICE ALSO. REMEMBER THIS WILL BE A NON PROFIT NON ALCOHOLIC SELLING POKER NIGHT FOR FRIENDS AND FRIENDS TO BE. IF THATS ILLEGAL IM MOVING TO THE CHINA.

OH AND NO WALK INS OF ANY TYPE

    THANKS FOR THE REPLIES GUYS.

    Probably not!!

The Liquor Control Board (ok... that cap thingy is hard to do) is going to take exception to the free booze with the purchase of a raffle ticket, no liquor licence, charging $30 vig with booze on the premise, etc.

Selling raffle tickets without a lottery licence is probably not a good idea...

... and the poker thingy is not gonna pass scratch either. You're gonna wanna make a little money for going through all this.... that's why you gotta charge +$30 after all.... and unless all your expenses add up to what you take in... and their gonna wanna see receipts! you're a gaming house whether its one night a year or every night of the week.

    See a lawyer!
  • I dont think its really big enough for anyone to be bothered with it. (authorities)

Lets just have a good tourney and a few drinks and be happy!!
  • do we all insist on trying to find ways around this.

IT IS GAMBLING!!!! YOU'RE SELLING BOOZE!!! It is illegal. If they wanted to make the connection b/w the ticket and the booze, it would be no trouble at all.

Just accept the risk and move on. If it was ok, you don't think there would be a poker room every couple of KMS in the city? We all accept that risk is a part of club play. Whether it is in an industrial unit, the back of a resturaunt, or my basement, it is a illegal poker game.

Don't worry. The cost and trouble for the comission to bust and prosecute you is not worth it for them. There are bigger things to worry about (liscensing for the lotteries and the main casinos, as well as the litigation the comission is always dealing with. And they have the alcohol side of thing to work on too.

Have fun and win some $$$.

    Cheers.
  • I like you!!! Cya 2morrow!!

  • A poker game is only illegal if the House (host) makes a profit. If you rent a hall, and all proceeds go to the rentals of tables, chips, chairs, dealers etc., it is legal. If the hall has a legitamate liqour licsence, than they can sell it. All by-laws must be followed etc...The only thing illegal is if the house makes profit. Any one at any time can hold a poker game. If the attendance is large and it is on a regular basis, then yes the authorities will see what they can do to make a profit themselves. So if you are hosting the tournament, you can't play (if you win it is considered profit), all ante must go to prize pool, and all buy-ins must cover rentals, etc., if there is monies left over, it must be donated to the prize pool.
  • Thanks for being patient.

Just putting some finishing touches into this.

We want this to be the perfect Poker setting for you guys/and hopefully gals.

Still projecting a 2 to 3 week starting date. Lots of emails have come in with peoples opinions and we should have an announcement post within a week.

    Thanks alot for all replies

I hate to say it but this is not correct. The establishment will lose its liscense and face a huge fine if caught selling booze at a game. If CASH is involved in any way, either as a buy in - ticket or otherwise - there is a problem. The rake issue does exist - that part os correct, and there is also consideration. That's the fancy ministry word.

Anyhow, good luck with it regardless :)
