Fallsview $1k Satellite - November 27th

Roger at VIP Poker Tour will be hosting a satellite to the $1k event at Fallsview. The details can be found at the following link:

Fallsview Poker Classic Satellite to $1k Event - VIP Poker Tour (Richmond Hill, ON) - Meetup

So far he has 14 players confirmed and there will be a max of 33 players. This is an equity satellite with 80% going to the winner(s) and the other 20% to be shared by the other players participating in the satellite. He will also have a rake-free cash game that will start as players are knocked out of the tournament. You can sign-up on his meetup page or include your name in this thread and I will email you the details (address, etc.). I have played at Rogers a few times and he hosts a great game. Hope to see some forum members out at the satellite.

:bs: $20.00 to the house? Add it in as prize money.
  • I will talk to Roger about the 'house costs'. These seem pretty consistent with the other 'home' satellites running. He does provide beer and food so he has to cover these costs some how.
  • Going to be in Windsor for their nothing to hide poker tournament.

Is Roger going to do one on December 11

I haven't seen any that are taking money. Steve didn't as far as I know and I am not.
If he is providing beer and food for 34 people than that's a different story. Sorry.
  • The satellite I ran was a $120 buy in and all money got paid out.

Ask wetts and prophet, they each got a $1000 seat voucher and $260 each for expenses.

I also supplied snacks, pop, and water

I totally agree Brent. I've been on here a year and this is a first I have seen someone go about this, this way for a satellite. I know Steve Runs a lot of Satellites to the WSOP and also Orangeville Poker Tour and has done an Amazing Job with both.

Please don't think I was implying that you would do something like that Steve. I guess maybe I should have worded that post a little different. Sorry.
  • Don't shoot the messagejah....as I see it, its a lot better structure than the satellite at Fallsview, which are also $120 and only $1,000 in starting chips and 15 minute blinds. Don't recall your tournaments being rake-free Brent?

As I said, Roger is pretty flexible, and I am still waiting to hear back from him.

You are right West Side Poker Club does take a rake. We rent a hall and try to run a tournament with a home game atmosphere to it. I structure that is fair to the player and is generally the largest live event outside the casinos. We have not raised are price on the rake in 7 years even though cost have gone up.

I think if you had point out that 10.00 from each entry went to beer and food and 10.00 went to expenses for running the tournament, maybe people would be so opinionated on this subject.

As I won't be attending and this will be my last opinion on the subject. Who knows you might choose to criticize my satellite. Check for it tomorrow.

    Brent
  • Who knows you might choose to criticize my satellite.

nobody makes money off the tournament these days. Its the cash game so don't give me a lecture about rake. You make a decent amount off your tournament/cash game so don't try to be so naive. Your not running these for the good of the poker community.

At least second prize isn't a poker table, lol.

Look guys, this is getting somewhat touchy and definitely off topic. Please take this sort of discussion offline, we don't need the attention. We all know there are costs involved, I absorbed those at the Royal although they were small...
  • Every Tournament and satellite I run, been Rake Free. most of time provided pop and snacks.
  • OK, enough is enough. Please don't attack the person posting their tournament or people will stop posting them on here.

Yes, most forum tournies are rake free, including the satties, but some choose to charge a rake. You can decide which ones you want to play in and which ones you don't. Everyone on here is an adult and can decide for themselves.
  • Sounds like a terrible deal...who's involved again?
  • You are right West Side Poker Club does take a rake.
    Brent

    Take it offline...

Hi Steve, Roger is planning on doing another one on Dec. 11th. Just sign up on his meetup group. Looks like the Nov. 27th sat will give away probably at least two seats.
  • Is it legal in Ontario to rake a game such as this one?
  • Prob not, but in this case its just a guy with a nice house who loves poker and not somebody trying to make $ off of rake.
  • actyper wrote: »

trust me, if any of these guys actually had played at this game, they would be eating their words. Not many 'home' games have automatic shufflers! You should come out to a Weds game. Its usually pretty busy.

GTA just loves to break my balls.
  • I have played at this "home". It's a freakin mansion, in a very exclusive neighbourhood. The estates there have to be in the millions. The food is always great and as much as you want to drink. The host only charges $2 per pot in a $1/$2 NL game. Haven't played in a tourney there before so cannot comment on them.

The players range from good to calling stations and its not hard to figure out which is which.

You know the answer Dave and will you and Jim cut out the trolling/reporting each other? It's annoying me and is not appreciated. How about if we set up a WWF match between the 2 of you, we'll sell tickets (raked of course), Prophet can set the line and we'll have a betting pool which we can all argue about....

Wish I was getting paid for every squabble that breaks out on here. :)
  • That's an awful deal though. You can play in Fallsview in $120 satellites, with only 10 players, and you don't give up a stake. Really, if you're going to charge 20%, then there should be more in it for you.
  • So stating that someone is hosting a potentially illegal game is trolling? Is it trolling if people get busted at said game and then a comment is made about it after the fact?

Don't get me wrong, when I lived in Toronto I played in many illegal underground games but I had complete knowledge of what I was doing.

Wasn't there a time when raked games were not allowed to post on this site or am I remembering incorrectly?

I have previously run Satellites and tourneys. I have not supplied alcohol but have supplied food, tables, chips, cards etc. I have never charged a rake.

You are correct Dave, there was a time when there was a "Home game section" and a "Club Section". Given the heat put on the "Clubs" from the LE (Law Enforcement) it was shut down. I don't really care as long as I know how much is going where so I can choose. However this structure doesn't sound good to me.
  • 19 players signed up as of this morning; hopefully we can get 20 players so that there are two seats available. There were 22 players out this Saturday to the regular tournament so getting 20 for the satellite should be feasible.
