Just because you're wrong once, doesn't mean you're not making the correct laydown the majority of the time.
TBH, the decision to either check-call or make a thin value bet and fold to a raise is very opponent dependent.
Did you make a big 3bet with your AA like in this hand and were still afraid he had a 6 in his range? If so, yuck.
I'm not saying I'm not making the correct fold most of the time. I'm just saying I don't trust that randoms at low levels won't take some crazy messed up line just to bluff me no matter what they have to risk...cause they do, they think it's the way to be a star player.
And no, I obviously didn't 3bet pre. It was probably a limped pot (before I raised out of the blinds), a dry flop, a deception check check on the flop, a call from him on the turn and a complete bluffraise on the river to my vbet...Or something like that
I agree that randoms in low level MTTs will make some insane bluffs at times, but I think in this specific example, because of the big 3bet preflop, the villian's range is pretty polarized. Based on the action, I think he did miss value and a 1/2+pot-sized bet is in order. A smallish blocking bet is just asking to be bluff-raised.
He's more likely holding inferior hands that will snap call a river bet (pocket pair or Ax) than a Q, and though he may bluff raise, it's unlikely he raises without a Q because he should fear us slowplaying a Q.
Fearing the turn float and not betting the river is missing value, because there are a lot of hands that call a turn bet that we are still beating.
In your hand with AA vs ATo, because his range is less defined, check calling the river is a better option.
Sorry if the yuck comment seemed out of line...I've been reading through quite a bit of the forum and been impressed with your analysis the majority of the time. My bad for being a noob here.
Don't worry about it, guess I read that and felt the need to defend myself or something. I take pretty much every oppertunity to learn or prove myself to others as much as I can, probably a bit too much usually..
Didn't mean to come across as a douche or anything, see you around the forums
I honestly can't understand why the river is not a snap defensive bet......
if anyone here has a queen do they check? no they put in a value bet, everyone knows that. put in a small defensive/value bet and fold when some crazy idiot comes over it. Its very hard for someone even half serious to bluff that...especially....if you checked the flop.

I got bluffed off my aces by A10o on a board with two sixes when I did this Havn't trusted people early in low BI tournaments enough to bet fold since
