  • Thanks for the advice, very good post. Im playing in vancouver right now and the games here are generally loose, yet people 3bet very tight. Still won't stop anyone from opening UTG with KJs with a 15$ raise.
Generally players want to see a flop. Donk bets usually mean SOME strength (as in the villian won't fold his TPNK), depending on the player. I find it hard to push people around that won't fold.

I don't know how I feel about calling with hands like QJo and that kind of thing. I like the theory of 3betting lightly and will try this strat out next time.

Ill post more later im at work, thanks for the response

Where do you play in Vancouver? I was there for the first time over Thanksgiving and saw a casino on False Creek. I may move there later this year, any info would be cool.

I live on the east side. The casino you're talking about is edgewater casino, and actually on the other side of false creek; downtown.
They have regular games of 1/2, 2/5, 5/5 PLO, and 4/8 limit some with kill.
obviously the 1/2 games are the most popular. I think that if you play any of these games you'll destroy them. There are about 20 regulars that i know by face, all of them never change their game up. I don't play 2/5 but from what I've seen its just as juicy.

They have early bird tournies every week day at 10am but the juice is horrendous. 27+8 M-TH, 47+8 F, SU, all starting stacks of 2000 and 15 min blinds
THey do have an ok tourny on Saturdays though, 100+10, 4000 starting stack, 20 min blinds, usually get around 50 people.

THey have a monthly 500+50 tourny, 10K starting stack blinds start at 25-50, i think they are 25 min blinds. Dont know how much action it gets, but they have lots of satelliete SNGs for the week of the tourny.

If you're ANY good at PLO then you REALLY want to hit that game. Brad booth has known to make a few appearances at that game. Its SOOOO juicy, I really wish I had teh BR to handle it, people stack off with J high flushes on a paired board.

Aside from the poker games itself, the casino kinda sucks. Squished tables, can't drink booze at the tables, and the food is awful. There's no restaurants super close either, you're looking at least a 10 min walk to get to one.

River Rock seems to be the place to go. Its in richmond and right at a skytrain stop so its convenient. Same games, except they have 2/4 limit not 4/8.
I kinda like this casino because they have a min BI of 40 at 1/2, which really puts a fish mark on those players. at edgewater, the min BI is 100.
THe caliber of players is genarally the same. People don't 3bet witout AK, AA, KK, or QQ, rarely JJ but it happens. Tables love to see flops so most of them are loose passive. I can raise to 15 bucks UTG with a tight image and get 5 callers... pretty frustrating. If you're going to raise a series of limpers, expect to get called by everyone. For some reason though, if you 3bet a min raise and a series of callers expect to take in the pot. I think you'll find the games here very fun.

1/2 in all vancouver has a max BI of 200, 2/5 is 1000.
River rock food also sucks, but at least they have a tripple O white spot in there, their tables are more spacious and the seats are much more comfortable.

Tournaments are better here. Same structure but the payout is better; usually 10% + 1 spot (edgwater has a >10% payout, 1 cash per table, tables in tournies are 11 handed, and the payout is allways first place heavy). Juice is much better, and they usually have 2 a day. 25+5, 60+10, 90+10, 250+20 etc. Check out their website for more details.

I'ev yet to play in the suburbs yet, not really planning on it as I don't own a vehicle. THey have a big one in Coquitlam, and another way out in Langley. They're all owned by the same people as river rock, so I assume their structure is the same.

    EDIT: added more.

I've played at both Casino's further out and it's more of the same. Mostly 1/2 with some limit games tossed in. The Langley Casino is actually owned by a different company (Gateway Casino's and Entertainment), not Great Canadian, which owns the River Rock, and Boulevard.

In regard to the 5/5 PLO game mentioned here, I think you would be very interested GTA.
It's very go go go action wise and there is no shortage of money on the table. The dealers in the other games will talk about it at length if you ask.
