Played in Event 51 and got to sit beside David "The Maven" Chicotsky (#1 ranked online player in the world and 3-time triple crown winner). I outlasted him.
I ended up being cripled at the end of level 5 when my pocket aces got beat all in after the turn by a pair of 5s. Board fell like this...2-A-J-4-3.
Horrible.
A few hands later, sitting in small blind with suited A-10, I shoved my remaining chips against the big blind who (with only $100 more than me) called instantly with 3-3 and they held up. My luck...the guy couldn't have a 7-4? I walked out the door at the same time as Jennifer Harman.
My buddy played in 54 and sat right beside Phil Helmuth (I got him to smile/chuckle when I said I was only there thanks to his "Million Dollar Poker System"). He ended up losing in level 4 to a 2-outer.
Thankfully, on the last night, I made final table in the 100 player, 8pm, $150 buy-in deep stack at Harrah's. It typically ends at 2:00am and at 4 in the morning (I was going to the airport at 7) there were still 6 of us left with the blinds at 20k-40k and 2k antes. Every small stack that shoved miraculously doubled up and we were all dead even in chips. At this point, somebody made a crack about splitting the pot 6 ways just to end it and we all agreed taking home $1700. 2nd place was $2100 and 3rd through 6th place were roughly 400-800 so it seemed like a good deal at that point. Like all of us coming in close to second. A bird in the hand.
Left Vegas with all expenses endured on the trip covered and up a few hundred.
Next year.
It was a losing WSOP for me this year, but what can you do when you always get your money in ahead and lose by the time the river came out to either cripple me or bust me.
This happened in every tournament I played here is Vegas, The WSOP, The Caesars Mega Stacks, and The 7pm Nightly at Caesars.
Nothing I can do but ride this out as I am sure things will go my way eventually when I get my chips in ahead.
What does my poker future hold for me after taken so many beats, lets see, it won't be slowing me down at all, GBH $550 on July 8, and probably go to Seneca for some of their tournaments that start July 10.
As for the rest of my Vegas trip, the wife arrived yesterday and we took in some of the tourist stuff, and we are just about to leave to see Terry Fator at The Mirage, then tomorrow we will have a nice dinner at some expensive place here in vegas maybe Neros at Caesars Palace, and arrive back home in Toronto Saturday night.
Good luck to those in the Main Event, I will be going back to The Rio with the wife to rail Greg(crazykoby) as he is playing Day 1a.

I echo your thoughts Steve. I felt exactly the same way this trip, just couldn't get key hands to hold, then I would end up shortstacked... I think the variance in these large field tournaments is just so huge that you really have to look long term to know whether your a winning player or not, probably like 100+ tournaments to know. My problem is I may not live long enough to know... In any case, you played well Steve, enjoy the time with your wife and I'll see you at the next Orangeville event... A little more manageable in size...
I can attest to the bad taste left in your mouth when running bad for an entire trip. Went in early June for 2 weeks, and only min cashed in one tourney (out of about 15).
Examples....Raising a guys blind on the button consistantly, have J's this time...BB pushes to the raise, he shows 99's, catches a 9 (Venetian 7pm tourney, gg me). Girl to my right just lost a big pot and shoves blind next hand (for most of my chips)....dealt AK, make the call, she shows 89 and flops the straight (Venetian again). Variance, when it's going bad, only seems to go one direction.
