  • Will all the Rounder's girls be there ;)

    Nice website! Looks like a fun event.
  • Like all inquisitive poker players we like to know details before we commit, blind structure, blind length, starting stack, % of buyin going to the prize pool, etc.. Also you mention on your website of the possibility for free entry and to refer to the terms and conditions but I can't find those terms on your wedsite...
  • Yeah the website is nice, and I'm definitely interested in playing this event but need more info!
  • Not trying to ruin or knock your event but with the majority of these "charity" events, when there is a $40,000 cash PRIZE pool, expect very little in the way of 'cash' to the winners.

    OP, it is in your event's interest to please disclose more info.
  • I thought these were not allowed. you need a charity license to run a gaming event and last time I heard the Ontario govt doesn't give them out.

    Especially if a portion of proceeds are going to a charity. That would mean that there is a rake being paid no?

    Just being a doubting Thomas, otherwise it looks very good
  • PRIZES
    # The following prizes (hereinbefore and hereinafter referred to as the "Prizes") are available to be won in the Tournament, and will be awarded to entrants finishing in the rankings indicated:

    1. First Place: One (1) cash Prize of C$12,000.00, or a seat for a World Poker Tour tournament event, valued at approximately US$10,000.00, at the Promoter's sole discretion. The First place finisher will also receive the official Rounders Cup Ruby Ring valued at approximately C$200.00. In addition to these Prizes, the First Place finisher will have his or her name engraved upon the official Tournament trophy, the Rounders Cup;
    2. Second Place: One (1) cash Prize of C$6,000.00,
    3. Third Place: One (1) cash Prize of C$4,000.00;
    4. Fourth Place: One (1) cash Prize of C$3,000.00;
    5. Fifth Place: One (1) cash Prize of C$2,000.00;
    6. Sixth Place: One (1) cash Prize of C$1,750.00;
    7. Seventh Place: One (1) cash Prize of C$1,500.00;
    8. Eighth Place: One (1) cash Prize of C$1,250.00;
    9. Ninth Place: One (1) cash Prize of C$1,000.00;
    10. Tenth Place: One (1) cash Prize of C$750.00;
    11. Eleventh to Twentieth Places: Each wins one of ten (10) cash Prizes of C$500.00; and
    12. Twenty-First to Thirtieth Places: Each wins one of ten (10) cash Prizes of C$250.00.

    compuease, the free entry is under the t&cs, something about doing some performance.

    Also note that this is a $100 r&a tourney.
  • Looks like this is designed with donating money to charity in mind ...
  • looks like rake is about 46% - total pool is $75,000 with $40,000 being paid out in 'prizes'; that being said, its for charity so rake isn't really an issue. I played a tournament last year at the Board of Trade with 100% rake as you were only playing for donated prizes. If you like the charity, and want to play some poker, might be a nice time.
  • That is also minimum rake as there are rebuys & addons. Though hopefully the OP will answer if prizes are added depending on prize pool.
  • I guess my comment was more along the lines of "how is this legal in Ontario?"

    I have seen a lot of other people try this and give out cash prizes and they were not allowed because you need a charity license to run a poker tournament? If I am wrong that's great cause I would like to play in this...:)

  • What % goes to charity and which charity are you working with?
  • Hi. Please feel free to ask me any questions about the Tournament and I will do my best to answer each and every issue. Thank you all for your interest. This will be a great tournament.

    Tom
  • Per the website, looks like this:

    Bloorview Kids Foundation
  • Hi guys! Thanks for all the interest and comments.

    The charity is the Bloorview Kids Rehab Foundation.

  • Tom,

    The T&C seems a bit confusing.

    If I understand correctly - If I cash (or win) I dont get the prize that day?
  • Good question. All winners will be paid in a timely fashion. For security reasons, the tournament organizers will not be able to give you a bag of cash.

    What security reasons, you're concerned the winner could be mugged?

    Haha... ya, the Four Seasons is lurking with muggers. You should be able to at least cut a check on spot.
  • Posting on public forums that $40,000 cash will be paid out will attract theives, muggers and robbers. This I can guarantee you...(Side note: Haven't you ever seen the movie Maverick??)

    For accounting and tax purposes, it will be difficult to cut a check on the spot. I will contact the organizers and insist that they figure out a way to payout on-site, or as quickly as possible.

    Thank you for voicing your concerns.

    Tom
  • I think the only security risk would be for the top 3 players in this scenario. I highly doubt a mugger is going to pay $150 to go to the dinner to find out who the winners are. In their case give them the option of what they want to do. You could even arrange a private driver to get them to where they need to go with the money and deduct this from the prizepool. There are probably tons of people walking around the Four Seasons everyday with watches valued way over the first place prize. Don't you think its a bigger risk for 1 person to be walking out of there with around 75k? Do you really want to be held responsible if something happens to that money? So, basically what I am saying is I think you should let the player decide their risk.
  • G,

    Thank you for your suggestions. I, myself am helping to promote the Rounders Raise event, and hold no real decision making power. I will however pass on all your suggestions to the event organizers and update you on the progress.

    I want what's best for all guests. I am aware that in illegal poker dens, payouts are immediate, but this is not some shady underground game.
  • I agree. Thats a huge reason thats keeping me from signing up for it now. Also you posted the structure for 4 levels, is that it for levels? Do the blinds not increase after that?
  • Thank you again for your comments and interest.

    Are you concerned that if you are not paid on the day of the tournament, you won't be paid at all? Or would you rather not wait for payouts just because no one likes waiting for money.

    Either way, you will be paid out if you win. I will keep you updated on the payment schedule.

    Here is a bit more detailed Blind Structure. Keep in mind it raises every 20 minutes. I will have the organizers post the Blinds. Thanks, Tom.

    25-50 50-100 100-200 150-300
    200-400 300-600 400-800 500-1000 600-1200 800-1600 1000-2000 1200-2400 1500-3000 2000-4000 3000-6000 4000-8000
  • Both. I, and probably 99% of others, don't like to wait for winnings. We don't know what later means, the next day, in a week, month, etc. Plus until proven otherwise, can't 100% trust a company.

    The is the first time I've ever heard of a payment later for a live tournament, whether charity or underground. Doesn't make sense that you don't hand it out as you will have at least $100 per person in cash in hand at that time.
  • ^^^^ +1
  • Hi. I will get back to you about the payment schedule. Hopefully the organizers will find a way to pay out that night. Please remain patient and know that I'm doing everything possible to make sure that happens for you and for all the players. As previously stated, I am helping to promote the event, not organizing it. Many players have signed up already, and are quite understanding that just because legally the organizers can pay at a later date, doesn't mean they will.

    Please understand that I am an honest guy looking out for your interest. If I was a jerk, I would just tell you that all cash prizes will be paid out on the tournament day.
    I will do my best to ensure you are comfortable signing up.

    Tom
  • No problem, thanks for answering concerns Tom. I want this tourney to be a success as well.
  • Hi. Attached is the pirze pool details and blinds. Still working on the exact payout schedule.

    Thanks guys.
