Ok, so now let me get this straight. You are playing 10 20 LIMIT for a living? Of course with some "high limit" bj thrown in when these BIG games aren't running?
You want to have a $1000 stack at 10 20 LIMIT to take advantage of the small $400-$600 stacks at LIMIT.
I think ya pretty much got it. LOL I like 10/20, but if there is a good 20/40 or even 50/100 going with good solid players (and not drunk ass donks) then i would much prefer to jump those tables. I always try to bring as big a stack as possible to the table (for some strange reason, call it mental or whatever) it always seems easier to make 1/2 your stack then it is to come with a regular to small stack and try to triple it.
If by chance i don't like the atmosphere of the tables available ( whether it be the players themselves, or just a bad feel about it) then yes, i hop over to the BJ tables, usually playing 3 - 4 spots ( if room allows, but at least 2 spots) I will not jump on a BJ table if i can only play one spot.
Now, if i can find a NL table/game going ( whether it be private or not) that is without a doubt my preference. Limit isn't bad, but NL is far better and the game of choice.
I sense a little of a "scattergun" effect to xtilts comments here.... I think most of us are trying to figure out whether he plays LHE or NLHE and where.... lol.. and to consider BJ as a moneymaker well... lets just leave that.... Blondefish maybe we can get you to do a ev analysis (maybe patience and skill factor as well) of the different BJ tables around here... Who has played 10/20 or 20/40 limit at Casino Niagara before....? lol.. must have been running on days that I missed...
actyper...just wondering if you would prefer to play with drunks who would more than likely call with anything and everything, never get a decent read on, and likely deliver you some deadly bad beats, or play with good sober players, and have to play against them with a good resemblance of skill rather than just "bet n pray".
Comp...unfortunately to play higher limit tables at a casino..your pretty much stuck playing LHE as only the kiddie tables offer NLHE usually. But any and all private run games i attend are only NLHE

You are kidding aren't you? Where HAVE you actually played? Are we going to the same places? And I don't mean undergrounds...
Ok, i see the responses to the 200BB as a rule, for me anyway. I also see the mention of 1/2 tables. Ok, first off, to make a living at poker, unless ya got horseshoes surgically implanted in every region of the body, it pretty much can't be done at a 1/2 table..lol. My games are usually played at 10/20 or 20/40 tables. The 1/2 tables i used to play when first starting out, but, as the game got better and BR increased(from the business) the table limits had to increase. And, the level of play increased. It could be just me, but i think the 1/2 tables are more for new-low level players to hone their skill. But, in the end, as your play level increases, it is only natural to move up in limits.
If you are a mid level or higher player, sitting at a 1/2 limit table will more then likely leave far more room for bad beats and immense suckouts. 1/2 limit tables leave way more room for pretty much any call with any 2 cards, hense way more major bad beats.
I don't know when you're talking about Limit or No Limit.
By convention most people talk about 1/2NL or 5/10LH or 10/20FL to distinguish No limit from limit.
Here's what I try to do with regards to playing sessions. I play 9-16 tables and I set a cap at 400 hands. After that I take at least a 10 min break, if I have more time to play and I'm up for it, I'll continue, otherwise I move on to other things. This method of playing allows me to focus on the long term, rather than each session.

The second tourney I was in there was a guy across from me that was hammered. He just kept calling everything and he must have been sleeping with the turn and the river because they were just laying down for him all night. He made the final 3 tables and took out some amazing players along the way. Last night, he was sober and could get nothing and was out in the first round after the re-buy closed.
wished I had caught some decent hands that first night.......but 3/9 isn't going to do it
but back to Bankroll management. I was just playing off the cuff online for a while and my bankroll was getting demolished.
I cut back and started to play with no more than 5% in any one buy-in. That along with my slightly improving skills have lead to a more stable and slightly climbing on-line roll.
Not a lot of live experience yet....well none in a casino. (I'll be sure to alert you guys first when I make my first foray......I'll be wearing the FISH IN THE HOUSE shirt
I'm not saying that will happen all the time with the drunks, but, more times then not, it will. I personally just find it very hard to play against the drunks. And in the end, would much rather pit my skills and bankroll against a sober player any day.

Very true. I wanted some decent hands but it was so dry for me that night I wasn't going to risk my tournament just to try and drain the donk of his chips. He was just hitting so lucky.
I was really sad when they didn't get the liquor licence approved for the last match......

You should learn to adjust your game to the table if you can't beat drunk players...nice corollary to "there are so many bad players that I can't win".

6. Know when to walk away

You have a 200bb stop loss for a LIMIT session.
You have honed your HIGH LIMIT BJ SKILLS.
Well done, gg.
