Charity Polar Bear Dip

First off I’d like to thank Graham for being cool with me posting this thread up here.

Every year around this time I try and put something together for a local charity to help out in some way, usually its some sort of poker tournament or pool/dart fundraiser. This year I decided to go a little more extreme and have organized a Polar Bear Dip on Saturday Dec 20th at 11am at Sunnyside (Lakeshore Blvd/Parkside – Toronto). This years charity is Inn from the cold (Inn From The Cold - Home) which is a shelter that is open only during the winter season. I recently visited and spoke with them and they could definitely use the help.

At this time I would like to reach out to any forumers that would like to either participate on the 20th or would be kind enough to donate to this cause. If you’d like to participate and have a facebook account you can join by searching for this group ( 1st Charity Polar Bear Dip) or if you don’t you can PM me with a request. If you cannot make it but would like to donate you can do so numerous ways including Paypal, MB, Pokerstars, Fulltilt. You can PM me for details, Charity receipts from IFTC will be issued.

    I have always wanted to try this. I may give it a shot while I still have the balls to take the plunge. I am given to understand that, afterwards, I will NOT have the balls for anything else for some time. I will let you know by tomorrow.

    Thanks Milo I will PM you the details in a few minutes and hopefully some of the gang with sponsor you on this. We'll have plenty of additional towels that day as HERRS Fitness in Aurora have just donated a bunch of them for that day.

    Thanks Voodoo. I have sent out a brief e-mail to some family and friends, as well as co-workers, so hopefully I will be able to turn some coffers green while turning my skin blue. Looking forward to this . . . the wife wants to take pics, cannot begin to imagine why, though . . .

    Sounds worse than it really is, I have done it once before and the nads worked fine afterwards LOL. I have talked to a couple media outlets about coming out to cover it, should have an answer in a couple of days.

    It doesn't count unless you have to cut a hole in the ice. I have done this (on a frozen lake). My only suggestion to you voodoo is to make sure you have some paramedics or something on standby. It won't be that cold, but it can be an extreme shock to the system for some ....

    Voodoo, is there some sort of printable sposor sheet somewhere. Sure make it easier to keep track, and ensure people get their receipts. Please advise.

    Average water temperature in Lake Ontario yesterday was a brisk 4 Celcius. According to one chart, hypothermia in 15 - 30 minutes. I'm going to try and last 10. Anybody else?

    Thats not bad at all. I can use that for a few of my friends that are wavering right now. Should be fun none the less.

    Water temp Saturday will be between 2 - 4 Celcius.
    Air temp Saturday will be around -8 Celcius.

    I'm going in just to keep warm!!! :D

    My plan was to drive down to TO Friday night (there's NO way I can get up early enough on a Saturday to make it), but with this impending deluge of snow, it's going to be a game-time decision!

    You may still have a shot. Voodoo has had several e-mails from participants about the possibility of a "weather" postponement. He will be messaging in a couple hours to confirm if we are "go" for tomorrow.

    IF, and I stress IF, this gets delayed, you may still be able to get in on the fun . . . you could even bring Mark. That is, if he promises to wear a thong. :D

    Voodoo, I hope I am not speaking out of turn with this post. If I am, I apologize.Just trying to keep this event on people's radar.

    No worries Milo.. making the calls now, I would like to pull it off (so to speak hahaha) tomorrow and get the donations into the shelter by Monday, it may be a smaller group but it would still be good.

    Just over $200.00 sponsored, almost all of it covered off. Not bad for less than a week, at least at this time of year, anyway.
