Free Poker Tournament - All In For The Cure

  • Hello all, an email was sent to everyone including Al and as many phone calls as possible were made. We had over 600 people sign up so it wasn't due to the sign ups. There were several reason that led up to the cancellation (along with a system crash) but the main reason is that these events are sponsored by an online poker room and the sponsor wanted to change some things before proceeding with the event. Unfortunately it was not in our control, however, a $1000 freeroll will be happening this coming Saturday for all those that signed up and were confirmed for the event. The tournament has been rescheduled for January 25th. Any inquiries or concerns, please send them over to members@allinforthecure.ca or to Oli directly at 416.414.2466

Thanks all and we apologize for the inconvenience!
  • and as many phone calls as possible were made.

So that would be zero then because why wouldn't you call your tournament director first?
  • I had never hired Al personally before and did not have his phone #, my computer system crashed amongst the rest of the craziness and all I had was his email address, I did send him an immediate email but was unable to reach him. Al will be compensated for the mishap along with all of the players with the freeroll on Dec.20th and their seats being transfered to the Jan 25th event. Again everyone this was something out of our control so please understand that we would have wanted nothing more then to have this event happen and be planning the next one.
  • Rest of discussion taken offline.

    Al
  • I love the computer crash excuse lol
  • i must add that one to the list
  • No interest either way, but you might want to let Al sort this out with the "organizer". Remember, a fair hearing first, THEN we hang them.
Jeez, some people have such a hard time with the simplest of procedures.
  • Free computers at the library.
  • my car had a flat tire. i ran out of gas. it was so cold the car wouldn't start. i couldn't find my jacket...
  • I got this email on the 11th:

    IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Due to unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances, the Dec.13th Tournament has been RESCHEDUALED for January 25th, 2009

We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused. For all members that have been confirmed to attend Saturday's event, an exclusive online $1000 FREEROLL Tournament has be scheduled for you for Saturday, Dec.20th at
3:00pm. You will receive your invitations for this tournament by Tuesday, Dec.16th.

The registration process is undergoing changes and new details will be posted on Tuesday, Dec.16th
Once again, we apologize for this last minute notice and we look forward to working with all of you in making the January tournament a huge success.

Still haven't been notified about the freeroll though, this whole thing seems pretty sketchy...
  • I received the same postponement notice via e-mail on the 11th (and it was posted on their website as well), so I'm not bothered by that. I highly suspect AIFTC simply didn't get the min number of confirmed players required by their sponsors in time (and yes, they could be more honest about that), but oh well. We wait until January.

Clearly I agree that the TD has a right to be annoyed at not being contacted.

Having said that... I still haven't received the promised e-mail regarding the freeroll that is supposed to take place tomorrow, nor is there an update on the website. As of last night, there didn't seem to be any tourney announced on Mansion Poker, so I assume it has been cancelled by Mansion for the same reason (in which case it really shouldn't have been promised in the last announcement).

Oli - can you let us know what's going on? I don't feel put out and I wish you guys the best getting these problems sorted out, but I would have to agree that the 'unprofessional' tag would be apt if today comes and goes without any e-mails/updates.
  • Nothing in the tournament lobby showing as this freeroll that was promised. I tried calling her number and there is no answer and her voicemail is full.

  • sadly people will not remember this when the next 'free' tourny comes up
  • Perhaps she will respond by email now, as I received this earlier. It has << edits >>

I for one will definitely remember this, it's total bull****...I ended up wasting money on some shitty mansion poker site and then no word on why the hell the tourney was cancelled, what a joke, I definitely won't be playing in it if it ever happens again and neither will my friends...

Got the same email... Some nerve.... Maybe someone forward our concerns over the legitimacy of all this to the actual charity it is supposed to be for?
  • Hmmmmm . . . forgot about this thread. Signed up for a tourney in Etobicake benefitting Breast Cancer. Title of the posting was also "All in for the Cure". Probably a coincidence, though . . . right? It's on the 24th, so I'll report back later.
  • So what's happening?
  • Tournament was well run, with 83 players. Top 8 paid, finished 20th. Noit the same as the OP, or even affiliated in any way.
  • So apparently All In For The Cure (www.allinforthecure.ca) is back. I received this in an e-mail about a supposed 2010 event.
BIG WARNING to anyone out there who is not yet familiar with this group. Their last event (December 2008 - see above) fell through and the organizers stopped returning e-mails.
I'm guessing that about 100 to 200+ players who had opened accounts with Mansion Poker (required to qualify) got screwed out of the "free" event plus any possibility of other new account bonuses with Mansion, but the AIFTC organizers still benefitted financially under some sort of affiliate program.
I've e-mailed the organizers to ask if, as a qualified registrant in 2008, I will be given free entry into the 2010 event immediately and without question. If I hear back from them, I'll post it here. I know a few others on this site were signed up as well.
To anyone not involved in 2008, I'd advise to take a big pass until they prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are a legit organization (don't hold your breath).

  • I think these guys that were onedeal 2 or 3 years ago. I had played two of their events 2 or 3 years ago and they were ok at that time... As I recall DataMn td'ed one of the events down at the CNE grounds... That was the best run one...
  • i don't understand.. it's a free event.. nothing wrong with free events.. what does it have to do with manison poker?
  • You pay nothing for your seat, but you need to go through a registration process which includes opening a new account with their sponsor's site (Mansion Poker last time). Presumably the online site then pays the AIFTC organizers real $ under an affiliate deal for bringing them new customers, and that $ is used to pay for live event costs.

Last time, the AIFTC organizers signed up many players, presumably collected their affiliate fee from Mansion, then failed to run the event (no reason given) and stopped answering e-mails.

I'd suggest that, if you are going to go through the hassle of opening an account with Mansion (or whoever the AIFTC have as a sponsor this year) to get this "free" seat, do yourself a favour and skip this deal. Sign up through a proven affiliate or directly through the site and get a new account bonus (or better yet a rakeback deal) that you know will be paid. At the very best, the "free" seat these guys are promising is a total crap shoot.

...and I hear you, Comp. I know they did run events in the past and they might have had the correct intentions last time. However, their failure to deliver anything and their subsequent disappearance gives them zero credibility in my eyes.

If it was just a question of not getting quite enough players in 2008 (and they were interested in doing the right thing), AIFTC could have declined their affiliate payment from Mansion in favour of cutting up that money for equal distribution among all the new players as an alternate to the originally promised bonus.

... and with so many people here who know what happened last time, it doesn't surprise me that the AIFTC organizers haven't dared to return to the forum to promote this new event.
