Brantford Casino tourney info

Brantford Casino is starting to run weekly tourneys

I wasn't able to get the blind structure but you could probably get it after the first one runs.

They are 50 player max, $100 +$15 freeze-outs. Top 5 are pair.

They will run every Thursday at 10 AM. You can register early but I was told there are 20+ spaces for the one tomorrow.

Last Thursday of the month, 10 am

50 player

top 5 paid

$200 + ??? Rebuy tourney. Details are still sketchy for this one I wasn't able to get the add-on fee, the rebuy fee, or confirm that it's top 5 paid.

Last Thursday of the month, 10 am

? player

$300 + ??? Freezeout tourney. Again details are sketchy at this point.

Hope this helps, if anyone can fill in the blanks, please add to the thread and I'll edit my original post.

That's what my source said, as I mentioned the details for the end of the month tourneys are sketchy at the moment. I'm still keeping an ear to the ground.
  • What the Brantford regulars told me was that the week-long tournament series and satellites are no longer posted on the electronic board and may not happen after all. :'( I let my fingers do the driving by phoning Casino Brantford at 1-888-694-6946 and found out the following information about tomorrow's $100+$15 freezeout.

    - Starting chips are only 2,500
    - Blind levels are only 20 minutes
    - Blind schedule: 25/25, 25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 150/300?; no antes.
    - The $300/$200 end-of-month tournaments has 5,000 starting chips.

There is an information sheet with the details, which Brantford refused to mail to me, but hopefully zunni74 or other Brantford forumer can get a copy and post the details. Bottom line: I think I'd rather carpool to Dead Money's rake-free WPT satellite tomorrow with 3,000 chips and 30-minute blinds instead of Brantford's tournament.
  • think port perry has a big tourny coming in December and some smaller ones throughout the fall, the December 1 has 300k guaranteed prize pool or something i read on a site while looking up canadian poker on google, see if i can find the info again:)

You just have to read my post on this forum about the few tournaments available in Ontario casinos. It is impossible for GBH to guarantee a $300,000 prize pool as it barely had 70 players last December when I played so the prize pool was only around $140K.
  • Sniffs...

Do I smell an $50,000+overlay here?
That would get me out of retirement!
  • Has anybody played in or watched the Thursday weekly tournaments at Casino Brantford? I went to a decent tournament elsewhere last Thursday night and will go there again this Thursday, but I want to know if this Brantford tournament is worth going to in the morning.
There is an information sheet with the details, which Brantford refused to mail to me, but hopefully zunni74 or other Brantford forumer can get a copy and post the details.
  • Here is more information about OLG Casino Brantford's tournaments.

    - Every Thursday starting at 10 AM.
    - $85 + $15, 15% rake.
    - Prize pool: $4,250.
    - Only 2500 starting chips and 20-minute blinds.
    - Patience Factor = 5.7, Skill Level = 3
    - Sold out at 50 players last Thursday and for tomorrow. :'( Brantford should accept credit card payment by phone just like Point Edward and Great Blue Heron Casinos. It does not make sense for me to drive all the way to Brantford twice to pre-register before the sell-out.

    "Monthly" $300 Freezeout:
    - Thursday, September 25. A couple of forumers and I will be busy at Point Edward Casino next week though.
    - $275 + $25, 8% rake.
    - Prize pool: up to $13,750.
    - 5000 starting chips and 20-minute blinds.
    - Identical Patience Factor and Skill Level as the 2500-chip $100 tournament above! By skipping the 25/25, 300/600, 500/1000 and other blind levels, players are being decieved into thinking that they are getting more play with twice as many chips, but all players are getting is three times the cost! :rage: This reminds me of the $460 WPT satellites which does not have enough chips, blind length and playing time compared to the $170 satellites.

    "Monthly" $200 Rebuy:
    - Thursday, October 30.
    - $175 + $25, rake ~5% assuming all rebuys and add-ons go to prize pool.
    - Esimated prize pool: $20,000
    - 2000 starting chips
    - Unlimited $100 rebuys, plus one $200 add-on
    - A third different blind schedue - WTF?! All three tournaments with differing blind schedules have the same Skill Level and Patience Factors of 5.7 - 5.97!

    Conclusion:
    - Only if I happen to be driving near Brantford will I bother to pay for pre-registration for one of these tournaments just to be the forum guinea pig.
  • As I was passing by Brantford in September, I stopped by the casino and bought a seat for last Thursday. I was in the final table of ten, but only five made the money and I did not make the cut. I bought a seat for this Thursday. It is not a bad tournament for $100, better than going to an illegal club where you are always worried if it will finally be the night that police with laser-guided automatic weapons will raid the place.
    - Every Thursday starting at noon.
    - $85 + $15, 15% rake.
    - Prize pool: $4,250.
    - Only 2500 starting chips and 20-minute blinds.
    - Patience Factor = 5.7, Skill Level = 3
    - Sold out at 50 players last Thursday
  • I am in this Thursday's tournament as well.
  • Do you guys know if brantford have any tournaments in the afternoon or evening time. im busy at the store in the morning.
im interested to play this thursday but in afternoon or evening.
  • Go to Fallsview ASAP to use that $1,240 you won from my rake-free satellite! Peter won a $10,300 WPT seat and several $1,240 vouchers, so playing in those rake-free satellites with the same structure really helps. Brantford only has Thursday morning tournaments.

  • Trip Report:

Brantford players are bad. Structure is good. Played one hand with Blondefish when he open shoved AJ into QQ, saved me from open shoving my K9 so I thank him.

Didn't feel short stacked until final 2 tables. Everyone folds like a nit and I pretty much ran over the table. Gee the blinds are 600/1200 and I push with 6k back and I'm the table maniac. Was heading for final with monster stack but 1010<A10 which hurt but managed to make FT anyways. Dude that won it was so bad he called my 3x raise with K4s from mid position and bet it on the river when basically no hand that he beats calls. Of course my AJ was good.

Later he reraised my UTG 3x raise with A10s, because well that is super powerful with 7 people left to act, and there is virtually no hand that I raise with UTG that he is ahead of, but what the hell. I considered shoving my KK but didn't think there was even the remotest chance of him having enough skillz to be able to fold. Gave up on the flop and he shows the flopped 2 pr. So yeah A10 was my undoing. One orbit later I shove K9, get called by K8 and I am looking good for a double but of course tard luckbox also wakes up with QQ and I go out in 8th. Since he had about 3/4 of the chips in play at that point I was amazed that the FT took another 3 hours to play but hey what do I know.

Went to the craps table and I should know by now that when I walk away a winner I should just go home but hey my name gets called so I go sit at 5/10. Lost 3 boats vs boats including one that went 5 bets on the river when he goes runner runner boat. Later I have case K boat but of course same luckbox has KK for the bigger one. Made up for that much later when my boat is bigger than 2 other boats for a ~$300 pot. I'm down to my last $10 but can I get 3 bets in on the river with 3 different boats in the pot? Nope. Finished the day down $62.50 but determined to play that tourney again. So soft.
  • Just remembered another funny story that just shows how bad these people are. Down to 14 or so and I limp in with 98hh. It ends up just me and the BB. The board runs out all paint and we check it down. Anyone who has played with me knows every once in a while I will announce mini-flush ie 4 to the flush. Let's be clear, I'm not angle-shooting here. There is no possible flush on the board. I've rolled my cards, BB can see them. He mucks. Someone points out I'm playing the board and that BB just mucked a chop.
  • i called a mini flush. there is no such hand. next time I'll call a fizzbin.
  • moose wrote: »

A mini-flush might be misinterpreted as a 5-high flush for example. In a home game I'd have no problem saying that, but in a casino where the muck is enforced, I don't f around.

Is there such a thing as a mini angle shoot?
  • That's me. The angle shooter. Look out at RC. I will screw you all.
  • Thanks for the trip report Moose. I'm anxious to get into one of these tourneys as well even if it's just to boost my live tourney experience.

Let me know the next time you are headed down and I'll reschedule my staff meeting for another day that week :)

It is not angle shooting. I once announced I had two pair as I flipped my cards she mucked and then said I don't see 2 pair, I said the pair on the board and I have the King. She reached for her cards and said I had the Ace so I had 2 pair as well.

Lesson learned as I was awarded the pot.

  • If anyone plans on going down in November let me know. I would be interested in the $100 freezeout. Let me know.
  • For all those who wanted to play in Casino Brantford's Thursday tournaments only to find it sold out the day before, there are still 15 seats available as of tonight so there is a good chance you can buy in tomorrow.

I might play tomorrow. Looks like it's moved to 10am. Do I really have to drive out there tonight to get registered? What are the odds that by 9:00am tomorrow they are full up?

And how long does it last?
  • The Thursday tournaments have always been 10 AM. I highly recommend that you "let your fingers do the driving" by phoning Casino Brantford at 1-888-694-6496. When they said last Wednesday night that there were 15 seats available, it only sold out just before the tournament started but that was for the less popular $200 rebuy. Unless Brantford makes major improvements to the horrible rebuy structure, many of the players like me will never waste our money on that again. :rage:

I estimate that the $100 tournament would take around 4 1/2 hours for the winner.
