  • Entry fee+buy in?

Do you mean this is a rebuy?

How many chips to start, how many when you rebuy, when can you rebuy and what is the blind schedule.
  • Entry Fee: $100.00 per player
Entry fee includes: meal & beverage - chance to win door prizes

Buy-In: $50.00 within the first hour

sounds to me like the 50.00 goes to the prize pool and the 100.00 to charity, less meal, beverage and door prize
  • I contacted both and neither sanctions this event. No licence necessary because it is not-for-profit and all proceeds are accounted for.
  • Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd

    False!

  • It is actually a re-buy for half the amount of starting chips. Looks like 5000 starting amount, re-buy-in for 2500. The proceeds will he handled as follows;

Total entry fees (-) minus expenses = net proceeds
Net proceeds divided by two, half goes to charity the other half will be distributed to 12 placing players according to percentage breakdown. We are in the process of securing a tournament director who will finalize all those details.

Yes, it's a re-buy-in for $50.00. Looks like we start with 5000 in chips. As soon as our tournament director is secured, all those details will be finialized and available.
  • so... a likely 60+% rake, not yet structured event that is unlicensed at a time when the cops are cracking down on illegal games? for registration can i send a moneygram to your p.o. box in nigeria? this may not be the best place to recruit players. i'd try putting up a poster at the gamblers anonymous meeting hall.

seriously, though, good luck with the fundraising.

    Dear Mr. Pompous,
Thank you so much for your most positive comments. Much appreciated. For your information (although it seems you know everything) we have checked with the OLG and AGCO, both have indicated no problem. We are also checking with the local OPP just to be sure. All proceeds (if you read the ad) will go to "charity-expenses-prizes", no rake, no profit. Hopefully you're very busy that day and can't attend! We will post any new developments as they are available.
Thank you once again for your written support.
  • Dear Mr. New guy

Ask yourself, do you not think that in the many years that this board has been running, that this topic has not come up repeatedly?

Your game is illegal, you will not likely gain many players on here. Fair warning by the way, police have trolled this board before, so you may want to hurry up on that OPP check. Your game is illegal if you're taking any $ from the prize pool for any reason (in this case, expenses and prizes).

Pkrfce up there may not be the most tactful, but he's right.

    Dear Mark,
Much better approach than "buddy". Thanks for your comments. That is the information we are looking for. I posted here some time ago asking for advice, now it's coming. If the event is illegal, we will simply cancel the tourney. Thanks again for your information and tact. Much appreciated.

  • when you get the green light there are some amazing tournament directors on here...

    datamn for eg.
  • come on everyone, it is a scent-free event, so cut the organizer some slack. That should easily disqualify 99% of the forum members.

Does this mean I can't have Indian buffet the night before the event? your thoughts?

Thank you for the humour. Much much appreciated. For a minute there, I thought I had just announced the end of poker as we know it here in Canada. Wow!

    Dear Kristy,
Thank you as well for your optimistic approach. I am waiting for a call from the Acting Chief of Police to find out if it's a go or not. Should the event be good to go, we will need a director, so I will ask you for potentials once I know. Thanks again.

not buddy, me! i'd love to hear buddy's comments though. i'm pretty sure i know what he would say.

at least i wished you good luck... and i was serious. i just think your approach here is seriously flawed. and would make a good comedy bit.

    don't even think about mentioning folding aces pre-flop, or you will never hear the end of it;

There just working on their tilt skills, that's all.

Yeah...okay Mark. You're English is a good as your support. It's "there" the location...not "they are" the people.
    Wow...and you play!

  • Ahem...

Mark would like to apologize for his insufficient use of the "Quote" button.... initial intention was to tilt PokerJah

Mark would further like to apologize for this apology. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    ....................................

Mark would like to apologize for the previous apology inadvertently added into the previous apology, wherein he was apologizing for the poor communication of his previous post, resulting in said apology. Mark would however like to reiterate that his initial "pwnage" (as the youth are saying) is in fact still relevant and applicable.

    Thank you for your time.

    Good night Cleveland

(Man, I gotta find something to do at work for the next two hours)

Hey...it's "buddy" again. Thank you once again for your optimism and support. One day, I will be as "together" as you are and organize the perfect tourney will all that "you" desire, but...for now, it's not about you. So, thanks for all your support, we will get it right. Until then, don't bother writing unless you have some valuable knowledge or ideas (criticism doesn't count). And by the way...we'll try to keep the comedy bit going as well. Once again, Thank you so much.

The indian buffet is good to go according to the charity in question.

It would show that the event is NOT illegal. Any time yo buy raffle tickets or enter a draw, the AGCO/OLG approved charity license number is always clearly displayed to validate the event.

Remember, any wagering done in the province of Ontario is ILLEGAL if those wagers are not placed against the Government of Ontario or if the Government of Ontario does not take a rake/fee from the game. This would include this proposed charity poker tournament, which you are raking to cover "expenses"!!!

if only 'legal' events were advertised on this forum, there would be none. Kind of a narrow focus.
