Busted several gta poker rings, but no clues towards the driveby shooting leaving 3 dead. nice.

Every time a bust happens some poker fan always ends up posting something like this. It's not like they called the officers off of the triple homicide investigation to kick in a few poker doors.
  • Hotel development on the Woodbine racetrack lands. They're getting a huge property tax break from T.O. to build it, with the promise that the casino will not expand. I expect that promise to last all of one week after it opens. They will not want the "competition" so close to hand.

jeez, if you had happened to be there on that night you risked possibly getting a $100-$300 fine. close one, that is scary!
    plus being finger printed, etc.

further to this, i'm curious if being charged as a 'found in' could have any impact on your ability to enter the States. anyone have any expertise in this?

Its tricky. According to U.S. immigration law, most types of criminal convictions make it illegal for you to enter such as fraud and theft. It also varies from state to state. Not sure if "found in" falls in this category. Some states do not allow anyone to enter with criminal records period!

Now here's the tricky part, people automatically think, if they were found "not-guilty" or charges against them were withdrawn, they don't have a criminal record. WRONG!

If you were charged of a criminal offence BUT not convicted, you still have a criminal record. Even being arrested, you have a record. All arrest records, withdrawn charges, etc. are recorded under your criminal record.

These are the only solutions for those who need to enter the USA (i.e. Las vegas-WSOP)
    - For convictions, obtain a pardon.
    - For withdrawn charges and arrests records, obtain either a record purge/file destruction or a US entry waiver.
    - Also check the state laws as it varies from state to state. Who knows, maybe Las Vegas allows axe murderers and bank robbers but not persons "found in a"....lol.

Its pretty much easy to enter the states without question but note that once the Americans (immigration officials, law enforcement, etc.) are aware that you have a criminal record because you were stopped at the border and investigated...you will be black-listed from entering the states even if you obtain a pardon or waiver afterwards, worse case scenario you could face something worse for being illegally in the states.

I'm pretty sure this is accurate, correct me if I'm wrong.
  • Yup you are right....I remember when I went through the border and I had not had my charge withdrawn the border guard asked me "if I had been in trouble with the law" as it shows up when they swipe your drivers license at the border.

But when I show my passport it never pulled anything.....

Since then it has been pardoned as the charges were withdrawn..(stupid thing, long story...and no I am not a criminal....just crazy female types....)

From what I know, you are wrong. Club owners and players who were charged ended up making a charitable donation and had absolutely no record. I saw a couple of these club owners while I was in Las Vegas so they had no trouble going to and from the US.
  • I think it registers on your driver's license and not your passport. I got questioned going into the US with my driver's license but with my passport no one blinked an eye.

I would assume people in Las Vegas flew which would require a passport.

    Buddy,

better check it again, like I said any convictions, arrests, withdrawn charges, etc. is a criminal record. Its easy to cross the border......but if you get caught then there's trouble. Better be safe than sorry...if you have a record, get it pardoned or purged. Canadians with records cross the border everyday with ease (flop), and in most states...its illegal to be on their soil...so if you do get stopped and investigated for whatever reason, you won't even see the river card, maybe even the turn card...lol. It would be sad if you have won a WSOP event (big bucks) and later confiscated because you were in the states illegally.

P.S. here's a sure way to know if you have a record...if you ever been fingerprinted, you have a record, period.
  • I think it registers on your driver's license and not your passport. I got questioned going into the US with my driver's license but with my passport no one blinked an eye.

you're right! passports doesn't have any criminal record information. however, with serious criminal offences/records, you may not get a passport OR may be required to turn in your passport in court. So in other words, before an axe murderer crosses the border, Canada won't even let him/her do so.

So if you've been fingerprinted for anything which requires checking for any criminal records, are you saying that you now have a record? All I know is that the club owners who plead guilty said they have absolutely no criminal record and there are absolutely no problems going to and from the US.

so you are saying if club owners say they have no record and its okay to go to the US, thats up to you. All I'm saying its better safe than sorry!

    Surprised?

I was at the Hollywood Club when it went down and it's not something I've told alot of people, or talked about in general (until now).

If you ever played at Topflight you'd recognize some of the names......

so what happened that night at Hollywood? I recognize one name from the list as I use to work with this guy (indirectly).
  • The players were not charged that night - looks like they are getting a little more serious.

    Anyway...

SWAT, Peel Regional, and Gaming Commission come in through both entrances. SWAT leads the way yelling and screaming to get on the floor with there big f'n weapons drawn - because I am obv. gangsta. After the chaos is over we are interviewed.

They asked very generic questions during the interviews - Do you know the owner, are you a dealer etc. etc.

They took my info and we left with warnings. Dealers were also let go.

The rest of the story was in the papers.

I KNEW IT!! Something about you Darryl, but now things are crystal clear. Answer alot of questions.

Maybe I should put in some metal detection equipment in The Hill lobby...just to make sure the rest of us are safe from the likes of you ;)
  • Yes.

I thought briefly about winging my chips in their eyes (think Ninja stars). But realized they would not penetrate the faceshields.

Anyway - it was about this time last year they all went down, so I would stay away from certain Brampton games until after the WPT (Peel seems to know their shit).

Obv. Ching Hill is next to go b/c of the outrageous rake.....

if they paid cash for tips on club locations, there would be lots of degenerate gamblers cashing in. I wonder if they only focus on clubs that are open on multi nights of the week? not sure if they would bother with 'clubs' that are only open one night a week, etc.. Pretty much a waste of their time.
