2008 Tournaments in Canada

Has anybody found any resource that lists all the upcoming tournaments in Canada? (Hint: This so-called "Canada's Poker Forum" should have such resource pages for Canadians. ^-^ )

Since the $10K Niagara event and satellites MAY be gone and Casino Brantford went on strike from 15 Skill Level 6 tournaments last year to zero this year, :rage: below is a list of the remaining tournaments in Ontario casinos for 2008 that I have found and considering playing in.

- Caesars Windsor, bimonthly WSOP satellites from July 26 to December 27, $500+$50; 5,000 starting chips, need 50 players for each $10K WSOP seat or cash prizes; WSOP mega satellites with a Skill Level of 5! "cheers: Who's in for a forum trip?
- Casino Rama, monthly crapshoots including July 28, $430+$70; only 3000 chips.
- Great Blue Heron Casino, August 13, $500+$50; 5000 chips, up to 110 players and $55,000 prize pool.
- GBH, September 10 and November 12, $240 + $100 rebuys + $200 add-on; only 2,000 chips, up to 110 players and ~$55,000 pool; Skill Level of only 2.
- OLG Casino Point Edward (no info online) Blue Water Classic Event VII, September 23, $150+$15; 4000 chips, up to 100 players and $15,000 pool.
- Point Edward, September 24, $300+$30; 6000 chips, up to 100 players and $30,000 pool
- Point Edward, September 25-28, $750+$50 for each of 3 qualifying days totaling up to $2,400; 8000 chips, up to 300 players and $225,000 pool; Skill Level 6.
- GBH, October 8, $1,000+$100; 10,000 chips, up to 110 players and $110,000 pool; ; Skill Level 6.
- GBH, December 9-11, $2,000+$100; 10,000 chips, up to 220 players and $440,000 pool; ; Skill Level 6.

I'm thinking of my next poker vacation as staying in Ontario on September 20-28: driving to Caesars Windsor for the WSOP satellite on September 20, then going to Point Edward Casino by September 23. Anybody else interested?

  • Thanks for posting it. I was actually looking for live tourneys after reading about the recent TS series.

I first checked the Rama $430+70, but the rake is huge over 15% and the structure is just plain awful. The GBH 200+100+200 looks a lot more better, but without a car, getting to GBH is a problem. What are the odds that Branford hosts more tourneys later on?
  • Is anybody playing in Wednesday's tournament at GBH? I phoned tonight and there are only three seats left. They do not allow a purchase or reservation by phone, so I wouldn't want to drive all the way there on Wednesday only to find out that the last seats have just been purchased. :(

I might as well drive to Fallsview Casino instead, where I have been told that the $460 and $1,240 satellites will now be 24/7. The last $460 satellite will be on Wednesday night, then there will be non-stop $1,240 satellites until Sunday morning. In my last three $460 satellites, I have won two $1,240 vouchers and a $460 voucher, so I still have six $1,240 vouchers.
    - GBH, October 8, $1,000+$100; 10,000 chips, up to 110 players and $110,000 pool; Skill Level 6.
  • Thanks Blondefish... I made it a sticky!

I would like to have a lot of things on this site, but haven't been able to find a good enough template yet to do everything I want to do.

Umm, as I posted, I tried and they said no. :) A friend did drive all the way to Port Perry from Burlington yesterday morning only to find out that it was sold out, then he had to drive all the way to Fallsview Casino and got donked in a satellite.

I have played 2 GBH Events and each time I phoned in and purchased my seat with a credit card
  • I wonder if its a new rule change or just for the $1k+ buyin events where you can't, cause as Steve mentioned in the past you could.

I played the 1k and phoned in for my seat

Noticed this weekend P* was running sattelites packages to this tourney if anyone wasn't aware. This will likely increase the size of tourney....which is usually quite large anyhow.
  • Really? Damn hope they are still running this weekend.
  • I noticed the PokerStars BCPC promotion last week. I hope this means that the PokerStars North American Poker Tour (NAPT) has gotten off the ground.

They had a bunch this past weekend - I haven't noticed any new ones that has been generated yet though.

I didn't see them myself....were they the steps tourneys?
  • Sunday 6:45pm. $475

    Daily sats. 2r, 22r, 13r etc...

    $4500 packages.

Anybody know the turnout last sunday? I'll 95% be playing this one.
  • Not sure if I'll play this Sunday....but I'd like to know the turnout, so keep us updated.....as I will probably play every other Sunday.

They'll probably only have this running for a couple of more weekends.
And its not steps, only MTT sats into the $450 sat.

    WTF....played the $2 Sat to the $475 tonight...90 players finished 3rd for a whopping payday of $2.00.....1st and 2nd got seats......that's a harsh bubble.
  • ouch. I just got knocked out of the 7r in 10th. 3 seats, 4th was 60ish.
  • Anyone play yesterday??.......how many players was there if you did?

I think I saw like 76 players with 7 seats given.
  • The first one had 135 runners. Yesterday had 76. Nice 20min blind structure. Unfortunately i'm just sucking at poker right now and didn't get a seat.
  • Couldn't win a sattelite to the sattelite yesterday. Anyone play and make it in?
  • GBH $2100 in December.

The final day of this consists of the top 20 players each starting with 20,000 in chips instead of what they finished their respective day 1's with.

What are your thoughts on this?

Don't mind those type of tourneys......it's like a satellite into another event essentially.
  • That is a very strange modification, especially with what happened last year. There were only 78 of us who played (out of 220 hoped for), so what was supposed to be a 3-day event became only one day. With only five players registered, GBH needs to greatly improve its satellite program if it doesn't want the same thing to happen next month, including super satellites and non-stop satellites on December 6-9 instead of the last satellite being the week before when there will continue to be not enough interest. ??? Unless one has a poker bankroll of ~$200K, it doesn't make sense to me to spend $2,100 except through a rake-free or other satellite, but at least I have a stake in the winner of last week's rake-free home game satellite.

The next tournament I want to play in is the CPT finals at the World Poker Showdown, which includes +EV super satellites with 40-minute blinds.

  • Do you know of any online sats for this? The live sat is missing a 75-150 level and 4-5K starting chips would be nice, but it does speed up the action by prob 2 levels.

hey, I have a shot at this since I will be playing in the Stampede Nov 29th tournament where the winner gets a seat into this tournament. Long way to go still :) If you have some airmiles Blondefish, take a chance.
