Handles - Origins

As suggested in another thread, How'd you come by your user name/handle.

Milo is my favourite character in the Bloom County series by Berkeley Breathed. You know, the one with Bill the Cat. Milo is the archetypical Libertarian in the toon. Anyone else care to share?

    Yes sir... Sometimes mud...
  • Oh really? Didn't know you were married . . .
  • Mine is easy...my name... good thread though!
  • About 10 years ago, just before I went to work on cruise ships, I considered having a website to keep my family/friends up-to-date. I had my fullname (fullname.com) squated on but decided against using it.

So, I wanted something casino/poker related and I wanted something that put a little personal spin on things. I am the youngest of 13 children and have always used 13 as my special number ( I buy 13 roses, not 12). When I had sketched out a site, I had 13 links I wanted to use. I checked and no one owned 13CARDS.com so I snagged it.

Now that I live back on land, the site has lost its use but I still retain the domain just in case I get a bright idea...

    Sorry for the spam.
  • Short for accord type R, which I originally wanted to turn my car into, but lazy.

And also my initials TypeR, for extra juice.
  • poker + and a combination of the first three letters from my first and last name; my son is the real pokerJAH as the first letter of his three names are "J A H".

Jah is a name for God, most commonly used in the Rastafari movement. It comes from the Hebrew 'Yah' [jah].

Although I am hardly a poker god by any means :)
  • I'm just not very imaginative I guess.

My given name is John, but I prefer Johnnie. As in Johnnie Walker Scotch.

  • ddmilcan

I thought when I started playing online I should give information in the name, so,

    DD my initials
    Milton MIL
    Canada CAN

    voila ddmilcan

made sense at the time, but since Vegas, Snowflake has a nice ring to it

  • I played a lot of sports in University. My love was all the co-ed sports - how else were engineers supposed to meet women? You could make up your own co-ed teams. First we were Mechanically Inclined, then Bellcurve Surfers. One day I dreamed up Loose Moose - only after did I find out some bar in TO ripped off my idea. Hereafter we were always the Loose Moose. We won a bunch of things, had a lot of laughs, drank a lot of beer.

Eventually my partner on all these teams became my wife - MrsMoose. However for online play we don't like her opponents to know she is female - MrsMoose would kind of give it away so she is mmoose on most sites.
  • Because I'm such a fucking Pinhead.

Actually one of my drunken friends at UW refered to me as "That Pinhead Ashworth" one night and the Pinhead part caught on
  • I was actually quite surprised the handle I choose was even available.

Just came to me as I was joining.
  • Haha...

Mine's a bad combination pairing from "Itsame" Mario and "Zithal" Rob.... playing one night at Bristol, and just kept hitting cards on Mario, and he kept calling me a "Dirty Whore"... I didn't know if the forum allowed too much vulgarity, so I went phonetic.... "DrTyore"

So, if this swear filter goes in, will I be *******?

  • I worked at an Easter Seals Camp when I was younger, for about 3 summers, working with kids with major physical and developmental challenges. I was Shannon-boy as there was a Shannon-girl there as well. One day I wore an stp (oil) shirt and one of the develpmentally hilarious kids started calling me stpboy because he could't say Shannon. He called me that for the rest of the summer and it stuck with all the staff.

haha I always thought you were an 'Ace Typer'.
  • First name Sean, hence the s, last name Starchuk ...star. Available most places I've signed up with it, so it works well. Not a very interesting story though, sorry.

    sstar
  • Ppl started calling me Wes over Wesley...and then I was in the play/musical "West Side Story", and the ones in the performance started jabbing at me saying its my story, so I stuck with westside..and 8 has been the number I wore for my jerseys since..who knows when.
  • I used to play Hearts online with my sister. Her name was RidesButtons, because she used to have a horse named Buttons. I liked the idea of referencing my cat. That is him in the picture.

Actually, I just got some bad news about him - he is suffering from kidney failure. Unfortunately, it looks like he won't be with me much longer.
  • As a cat lover myself, I sympathize. We currently have three in the house, and the wife keeps hinting that we should rescue another one from the shelter soon.. Remember, dogs have owners, cats have staff . . .
  • Sandy - sorry to hear about Walt :(

I don't have anything interesting to add about handles....mine is my name. Yeah, I'm not very creative.
  • Oh, I don't know El, you managed to turn "Bubble Boy" into a husband, right? That must have taken some creativity, right?

He was my husband before he became bubble boy. We were married for a couple years before we discovered poker.

Not sure how far the relationship would have gone if he had the bubble wrap outfit when we first met ;)
  • Mine came as a result of working with a group of students in a remote forestry camp about 5 years ago. Boredom hit, charades came up, and dammit if I couldn't do "moth to a flame" without looking insane. It managed to stick because I study insects, and it sure beats some of the nicknames people gave me in the past.
