I'm doin alittle research for a possible vegas poker trip this summer, was told I should check out expedia for deals on flights, hotels, and other things involved with the hotels....can anyone confirm this reference?
If so, what are some relatively cheap hotels that are close to the strip and that has a poker room?

Booked thru expedia last summer and flight + room for my wife and I at the Wynn over 4 nights (Sun thru Thurs.) was $1200 taxes in. Sick deal.
Stayed at Harrahs last year, rooms are okay(they were being renovating last year), very reasonablely priced in the middle of the strip. They don't have seating area except for a couple kitchen style chairs. Location, price and clean all positive. Size of rooms and pool are negatives. If your still interested check out the Harrahs' site often under hot deals, these rates change regularly.
Wynn - Amazing! If you can get a good deal do it!
Hard Rock - Lots of fun, but off strip.... really nice rooms though.
MGM - Visited some rooms there - look really nice and good value
Bally's - Kinda ghetto, but good location.
Poker... Caesars, MGM, Bellagio (higher limits) plus many others.

Things to do...
Las Vegas Gunstore - So much fun! http://www.thegunstorelasvegas.com/

My 1st stop when searching for anything about poker in Vegas.... Great discussions, trip reports, tournament and poker room reviews...
I'm sure this site will beat expedia everytime.
You cannot beat Imperial Palace for central hotel at the best price in town based on location. (Sahara and Stratosphere next on the list but a little ways down the strip/monorail track). IP is a shit hole but you won't be in the room much anyways...sheets, towels and pillows are clean which is the most important thing to me. I have stayed here close to 20 times in the last 7 years and location alone brings me back. You want the front tower. Elevator wait alone is worth the price of a "Deluxe" room.
In rank order of preferences based on room experience only:
Venetian, you want an upgraded room, big and beautiful although I still don't understand 2 40" LCD TV's within 30 feet of each other.
Caesars ditto to above.
Mirage, nice rooms good location.
Bally's high on the list due to location
New York New York, not my preference for location on the strip and if you play late and sleep later the roller coaster going by every few minutes with people screaming gets a little annoying.
Imperial Palace
Bills...couple years since I have been here but remember the rooms as very dated.
Gold Coast - off the beaten path, rank it close to IP in terms of quality, where th locals hang out.
Motel 6 (down from Hooters) - This takes the cake for biggest dump I have stayed in, if I wasn't traveling along at the time there is no chance I would have ever left a spouse along in the room. I think they have done renovations since 02 but proceed with caution.
Whereever you play get a players card. Most of the Casino's pay a rate of $1/hour. (IP and I believe TI are $2/hr) these add up fast and help offset the room rate or your food.
Ellis Island behind Bally's and in front of The Platinum has a $6.99 steak special which includes salad, potato and fountain drink, I think one of the better deals still around.
Bills has the $15.99 steak or prime rib special, soup or salad and potato, not bad for centre strip.
Tropicana has the sign up for a full prime rib dinner for sub $20 as well may even be in the 10 range, cannot comment on quality but an option.
Buffets - Good quality comes at a price, if you eat late afternoon you get the lunch rate. TI has one of the cheaper ones, most coming in around $28 pp. Wynn and Bellagio is over the $30 mark.
Denny's is across from Mirage for a relatively quick and cheap grease pit. And if you want to go real cheap there are several Nathan's Hot Dog joints around for a quick cheap fix. NY NY, MGM and Venetian is the 3rd if I am not mistaken. There is also a Pizza place in NYNY that has amazing slices, I highly recommend them for cheap and fast and really good pizza. California Pizza Kitchen in Mirage is reasonable italian food.
Sahara buffet with a players card (pick one up before going in) is $7.50 without question one of the best deals around, it did not react well with me but a full meal rented for less than 8 bucks is a good deal in my books.
If you want to spend more there are any number of high end restaurants in town, Tao at Venetian for high quality Asian, Fix at Bellagio for NA fair, Hyakumi at Ceasars for Japanese with or without the Teppan Yaki-style cooking (Expect close to $200 with Tip for 2 without alcohol) but a great experience. Rum Jungle at Mandalay Bay for the Brazilian meat fest, turns into a night club at 10PM so bonus of no cover. App $50/pp for meal alone. There are a number of steak houses in town, including The Golden Steer the oldest in Vegas and quite an experience again not cheap though.
There is also the stable Mc Donalds, Burger King, Subway etc. all in close proximity and an ihop is just down the strip (take the deuce - this will make sense when you are in town $5 for an all day pass) for a cheap breakfast I think $2.99 or close to it.
Avoid Imperial Palace Buffet, price sounds right but I now know 2 people who
have gotten ill following the experience and not from over eating.
Finally Drinks - Casino Royale has $2.00 drinks and OSheas is in the same neighbourhood. The cheapest way is to find a nickle slot throw in a buck and wait for the cocktail waitress to come by, order your drink and continue to wait until she comes back, tip her a buck or so cash out for your buck and off you go.
Enjoy the trip.
FTW. You get all the hotels in Vegas with prices side by side, over multiple different sites.
Discount show - real ones - without going to timeshare pres.
Now I wondering what kind of bankroll I should bring. I play mainly 1/2 NL and 2/5 NL, but i'm willing to dip into 5/10 NL aswell.
Was thinking of throwing down $2000.
Sufficient?
$2k for some 1/2 action sounds good for 5 days.
Hotels are cheap in Vegas compared to what you get.
Dates?
I will be at the WSOP Circuit Series at Caesars April 20-23rd.
I'm planning Sunday June 1st to Friday June 6th.
both ways should be just over $350... for flights. usually direct flights from pearson.. 9AM and 9PM approx. at least in june. i'm going down around the 18th for a couple days. cant wait!
I just booked. Wooo!
3 nights at Hilton. $480 +$25 gaming chip
YYZ to Vegas: June 13, 9:35am - 11:15am WestJet
Vegas to YYZ: June 16, 12:15pm - 7:38pm WestJet...no red eye for me!
If you check expedia during that weekend now, prices seem real low. Luxor for just over $500 for 3 nights.
Good luck, and good luck:)
Tim
Perhaps, but I am looking at hotel/flight pkgs. I want to stay close to Caesars so I am looking at Flamingo for best bang for the buck.
I am having a hard time deciding on final dates but the cost is $525 - $650pp for three nights.
I seem to think this is a decent price no?
If we talking about the strip the poker rooms are generally the same for this level of NL. However, I did enjoy the decor and ladies at the Venetian and I thought the Wynn and Caeser's Palace had nicer rooms than most. Actually Caeser's is nice because it is completely separate and you don't have to listen to incessant slot machine noises.
Sahara had the lowest price for a strip casino, but I chose Imperial Palace since it is so convenient to where the best tournaments (Caesars Palace, Venetian, and free shuttle from Harrah's to the WSOP) and cash games are (IP, Bally's & Paris?). We are flying and parking in Buffalo, but the airfares were lower at the Rochester or Detroit airports.
