Just an FYI the Harvey's down the street is closed.

Truly a sad day...I remember that particular Harvey's WAY back when I was a kid in Kitchener...almost a historical site if you ask me.
  • Note that if there will be at least 10 teams, the point system should be changed, e.g.,
    11th place or lower - 0
    10th - 1
    9th - 2
    8th - 3
    7th - 4
    6th - 5
    5th - 7
    4th - 9
    3rd - 11
    2nd - 13
    1st - 15

    Omaha SNG 15 12 9 7 5 3 2 1
    FL Hold em 15 12 9 7 5 3 2 1
    NL Hold em 15 12 9 7 5 3 2 1
    Heads Up 10 0
  • Why not just leave it the same, ie 9th and beyond get zero... That way the point totals year over year can be compared.. I'm sure Sandro has it well in hand, he is the expert after all...

FWIW, I think this point system is pretty terrible. If we're going to reward the person who finishes 10th of a 10 person SNG, the weighting should be at least somewhat scaled at the top. Personally I would lean more towards something like Jeff's suggestion on no points for 9/10th, but as mentioned I'm sure Sandro will come up with something that works very well.
  • Most likely the point system will stay the same. The only issue I am working on is the fact we will have 5 stud tables and 4 Omaha. This will give an advantage to the better stud teams. I will keep you posted. Suggestions are welcome
  • 4 tables Stud
    4 tables Omaha
    1 table HORSE

just a suggestion...;) Yea, I know, no HORSE, still think it would be a blast though.
  • How about 4 stud, 4 omaha, 1 pineapple (of any variety)....
  • I think you're missing the point guys, the issue isn't the fact that there are not an equal number of tables of Stud and PLO, it is how to assign points. We have to have 5 tables of Stud because you can only have 8 per table, but how do you scale the points so that the total points in the 5 Stud tables are roughly the same as the 4 PLO tables (Otherwise Stud has a higher weighting than any other game)

It is also difficult to then compare the point totals for players competing for the MVP race.

One thing that I don't believe we have discussed before would be the idea of making the PLO into 5 tables of 8 as well to keep a consistency for that entire round? We would still have to scale it slightly to try to match other rounds, but then there is no dispute that a player could receive more points for winning a PLO table than a Stud, or the same number of points for winning a smaller table (at least in that round)

I know this is one of the reasons we stayed at tables of 9 with the dealer sitting out until the first player busted, but I agree with 10 teams we needed to make some kind of adjustment
  • Okay, now I understand the dilemma. I think your suggestion of making 5 tables of 8 for Omaha works well, if you can tweak the points a bit to make it equal.
  • The games will stay the same no pineapple or horse. The idea of going to 8 for Omaha may work but I prefer the idea of having tables of 10 so that all teams have a rep on each table thou. This is obviously not possible with Stud.
So I think 10 man table Omaha's and 8 table Stud will be the way to go.
We can adjust individual point to have 9th and 10th to get the same as 8th for individual scoring only. I think it really won't affect MVP points as all MVPs have at least finished in the top half of every discipline in the past.
  • Yeah I like the idea of having a player from every team at each table too whenever possible.

What are you thinking for the point system at a 10 person table?

I'm pretty sure the MVP was at least top 3 at all tables so the bottom points wouldn't affect them as much, my concern was more if we scaled back the top points at a shortened table. If you want to keep the number of points in the 5 Stud tables equal to the 4 PLO tables, that might be the best option (ie knock a point off each position?) which would then make 1st Stud < 1st PLO for the MVP race. That would be my only concern, but if we consider the players in contention for the MVP race based on the positions they finished rather than number of points (ie 1st, 1st, 3rd or whatever) that might solve that problem.
  • didn't we have the dealer sit out in stud last year?
  • what about starting with 5 tables of 8, collapsing to 4 tables and keep the point system based on 4 tables? After all like it was stated earlier do those early exits deserve ponts? Just a thought!!

Tables will have more than one team mate on each. I am not worried about 8th to 10th. I am only worried about making Stud points = Omaha points for the tourney We can use the same point system for the MVP race.
  • Why not just run a 10 player stud table?
Dealer sits out as in past RC's and shuffle the discards back in if needed.

That way no change to how the points work.

Problem is the timing as well last thing we need is a 5 hour Stud game.

There will be 5 tables of 8. I will figure out the details.

The problem is that there is at the extreme, nobody folds and thus no discards and not enough cards for everyone to have 7. That was my experience when I tried stud for the first time on line with play money. I don't expect it to happen at the Royal Cup, but you never know.
  • 10:00 - 10:50 Registration. We will start at 11 this time
10:50 - 11:00 Rules. If you have questions before hand just ask.

Just wanted to bump this part. In the past, this event would not start until almost noon or later, and wouldn't finish until midnight or so. Personally, I would like to ask all the captains to ensure their teams are ONTIME and ready to play by 11am!!

I think the cards should be in the air by 11. If you or your team is not there then you will be blinded out. You have basically one hour to have your team to arrive and be ready for the event if you can not be there between 10-11 then tough.

That being said I expect a big car accident on the road there and all teams will be late ;)

With the history of RC, that won't surprised me at all if it happened.
  • Yes please adhere to these timelines. Last time out was probably the best of them all as we got the cards in the air at 11:10. If anyone requires directions and details ask their Captains. Captains if you need nay info ask me.

The venue has also told me that they will try to have some dinner options for people as well. Beef on a bun, sausage etc.
We may have a small sponsor as well. Still working hard to get this done.
I ask Captains to bring a couple deck of cards each. I bought 12 packs of casino cards at Pt edward last weekend for the HU portion as well.
Brent - Westside will be supplying the chips this time around. Greatly appreciated once again Brent.
