Update: A few good hands ran into better ones and I became a human ATM for about 10 minutes. 17/21
Update: Alright, at least I'm guaranteed to cash. 14/18
Update: Finished 15/180 for double my buy-in. Makes 2 tourney cash's in a row for me, but I'm still really dissapointed considering my early success. :P
Ok, I've just started a $5 rebuy tourney with $25k guaranteed. (Stars)
My goal? To never rebuy/add-on.
My reasoning? This will make the very best of my $5.
1. I'll only be risking $5 while others will be contributing twice or three times as much to the prize pool.
2. I assume (this will be my first rebuy tourney) that play will be significantly looser when all my opponents know they can just buy more chips for themselves, allowing me to play tightly and easily close the gap.
3. Add-ons and rebuys of 1500/2000 are entirely insignificant in the later stages of the tourney when things actually get challenging. If I keep my head about me, I always get pretty deep just by playing a solid game.
Going pretty damn well so far actually. Through an effective, tight game (and my AQ sucking out against AK >:D), I've turned my 1500 into 8000.
Update: And I just got my AA cracked by KK. Only set me back a couple grand though. :P And hey, prize pool's up to 40k.
Update: Up to 12000 chips.
Update: JJ ran into QQ, gg. Blinds are 100/200. I bet out 1000 in mid position (stack is 16k, villian has me just covered), he raises to 3000 in late position. I was so close to just laying it down here. I had a feeling he had me beat, but I figured he could have been capable of doing this with a hand like AKs or AQs, so I thought I'd call and see a flop. Came 10-10-4 rainbow. He bet 4000, I pushed, he thought awhile and called. Not happy about the way I played that at all... what would you guys have done?
I'm playing some Stars ring games and taking brutal suckouts.
AA vs 99? lose (flop came 777, i got him all-in, he caught another 9 on the river)
AQ vs J10? lose (flop came Q-9-rag, got him all-in, he caught a K on the river)
Update: Finally recovered my bad beat losses. Down $10 on one table (the table I experienced those ^ :P), up $12 on the other.
Update: Well, I just lost a huge pot that's reinforced what I always read in strategy books: trust your instincts.

Ok, it's official...I'm a WAY better sng player than I am a ring game player. Not only because of a different set of skills, but I find I tend to buy into sng's when I'm in a good, patient mindset, and into ring games when I'm bored, stressed, or just want to get 20 minutes of playtime in before I head to a class or something. Than that translates into me donking off my money pretty quickly.
In most of the recent ring games where I've actually turned an initial profit and have doubled up or something, I start playing too loosely and burn it all down again. I think I've only left about 2 or 3 of my last dozen or so sessions in the positive.
On the other hand, I've cashed in 4 of my last 8 sngs (once in 1st, once in 2nd).
So I think I'm going to start concentrating soley on those for the time being and see if I can actually turn a profit for once (not just stagnate around the same bankroll and convince myself I'm doing it for the FPP's/experience). I'll probably join a few low-level Turbo's tonight on Stars.
guys, in case anyone is interested somebody just gave me a site that is trying to recruit players to titan poker and pacific poker. so they are giving out 25 bucks to sign up for each site (a check in the mail, not where you have to play like a million hands). just go to www.1deal.ca and put in the password money4you . i did it and then i got my cheque today. i wasnt gonna post this until i got it. took me like 20 mins to get 50 bucks off the 2 sites.:ah
Ok, it's official...I'm a WAY better sng player than I am a ring game player.
I used to think weird stuff like that just because I had a good run.. wait for the "Didnt cash in 20 sng's" streak.. it's normal variance, but it'll mess with your head ;-)
