I think we've met before at Devin's, so I'll say hi if I see you on the grind....
best of luck to you on friday.

I have a question for people who have driven from Toronto to Turning Stone before. If I am leaving from downtown Toronto at 2 pm in the afternoon, what is the fastest way to get to Turning Stone? Mapquest says to go through Niagara (via Queenston), but that doesn't account for the fracked up traffic on the QEW or the brutal border-crossing time. Having driven to the Falls many times at that time of the day, I know traffic sucks all the way to Hamilton, and then its also dodgy through St. Catharines because of construction.
Do you think it will be faster to go via Kingston, even if it's technically longer by KMs? I also live on the east side of downtown right by the DVP.
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks
AK
I have learned that you are indeed allowed to bring alcohol into your room for private consumption there.
Al, I just take the Queenston route, but I am going to be crossing the border at around 9:00pm on a Wednesday night. I don't anticipate any problems.
I will be playing in the tournaments, and $20/$40 to $50/$100 lhe cash games. I will probably be wearing a green hat with a single white star on the front of it (think communism). Say hi if you see me, and for sure I'm up for a hotel room boozed-up sng, and/or dinner with forumers.
I am a bigger guy, my table will be laughing and having fun and I will be wearing a paperboy hat (think Kevin James or the much cooler Samuel Jackson).
The 401 is shitty either way, but considering your going to hit buffalo around 5 I would suggest going the eastbound 401 and south on 81. Youll miss the major traffic of Buffalo but it is a longer drive.
good luck everyone
Thanks for any replies.
He's aware of both himself and Xuan still in the tourney, 30.5k and 40k respectively. Also, Voodoo, but unsure of stack. 260 Players remaining.

No, it wasn't me down there, I wish, but we will be at the Rama classic on Monday, anyone else going to that one?
Can Greg or someone who played here in Kit. confirm or deny...?
If so, I'm excited to hear more about her playing of late. (I think she was ref. in the Niagara WPT thread)

The hotel, I managed to get a Tower Room on the 17th floor. (I asked for a 10K marker and that may have had something to do with it. )
Nice room, view of all fields, factories and the parking garage.... guess that is about as nice as it gets in NorthCentral NY. Full marble bath, terry cloth robe, couch and a big screen great players type room.
The casino is oppulent and reminded me of Niagara, with major glass scultpures, great carpets, water falls etc, the resturants looked extravenagant and the prices matched...everything looked upscale even the chips seemed like money.
So the tourny report -
See the previous report - for details but I did ok in the $200 event and was doing excellent in the $300, but ran into some horrible luck. IE ran into Quads twice in two days, but I also made some big mistakes;
1 - no realizing stack sizes with limp ins, twice I raised an EP limper when thier only move was to really push. - Need to pay Attention more -
2 - gave way too much credit for hands, I should have pushed my chips on the flop or turn, but got into situations where I let people see a turn or river for bad pot odds but good stack odds
3 - could make a couple of laydowns that I should have, like a river flush that crippled me on day 2
4 - Had a player pull this play on me;
he 3x bet preflop, i reraised to 12x just on position. He flat called. is a rainbow k high. He bet 3/4 pot, I reraised 3x his bet and he reraised me min.
This was a great play; if he had AA/KK preflop you would think he would reraise me PF, maybe call with AK/AQ or smaller pair. So lets go with that AK/AQ or Smaller pair then K on the flop. His 3/4 pot bet screamed he didnt have AK, or a set, if he did you think he would check hoping I would bet and then CR me. However by min betting the reraise he gets all the info - if i call he pushes on the turn. If I reraise all in I can't even beat A high so the best play seemed like folding... In retrospect this minreraise was an awesome tool...thanks for the lesson
I actually didn't like the tournament much, too many internet wiz kids with the age being only 18 it seemed like every internet pro for states around came to play.
They all wore headphones and were super quiet during the play...makes for some boring 12hour sessions. Even worse, I had to call the floor several times to dispute the no talking rule. Dealers were instructed that you were not allowed to talk about a hand in progress no matter wether you were involved or even heads up. This is wrong, the only rule as I know it is you cannot expose or state your cards. I like to talk and was told by a couple of dealers that I couldn't, Id call floor and was proven right, but it made me look like an ass but I was right. So it held up the tourny each time but I think it allowed me to tilt some of the other players...just a silly rule.
It seemed like they were catering to internet players with the tourney rules. Frankly this made the tournies drag on and quite boring, why bother playing live if your not allowed to talk?
Outside of that -
The ring games were great - at $100 max a few guys would come in and play horribly dropping 1K on rebuys. I had a guy push on everyhand he had top pair no matter the kicker or possible draws on the board... sweet!
There was one game of $100 max that had 12-14K on it. Internet wiz kids were playing here and going all in blind, made for an exciting table and a couple of solid rocks (not a internet wizkid) that walked away from the table with 2-3K not bad for $100 max.
I played $200 max a alot and jumped up and down depending on the juice in the games. Took some horrible variance hits the 2nd night but did very well with the same players the rest of the week.
I also came to a conclusion; I was throwing money in bad at 1/2. $40 on a draw is easy mentally, however it is 2/5 of a stack and I had started to lose value of the chips. I made the move to 2/5 and did incredibly well.
I found I made decisions based on value and odds as the $ become signifigant in bets/pots. I was making much better decisions as well it tended to weed out more of the donkeys.
$40 (2/5) preflop raises get resepcted and typically narrow the field, where as $20 (1/2) don't garner the same and you end up seeing 5-8 on the flop.
Comps worked well you get $1.5 an hour playing 2/5 at turningstone. You can even use your comps for gas, which I found out a bit too late but have $6 for the next time I go.
Some other wierd oddities;
You have to buy a pokercard $2 at the start of each session. Not sure why but they wouldnt let you play without it.
No staddling was allowed, it was a blind raise but you had no control on action.
Alcohol is allowed but you have to bring it in yourself and put it in a cup. I didn't realize this until I had some 'drunks' show up at the table, they keep getting drunker but I couldnt figure out where they were getting the booze from. Then I went to the bathroom and saw a pile full of dead soilders on the floor.... kinda like at Rob's place Mental note for next time.
I ended up leaving noon Friday and putting in a session at the 2/5 Seneca tables. It was a good session and the week had a great positive result.
More notes to come.
No Wait usually would pick up a table within 5 minutes and they were great for table changes
You can phone ahead, right from your hotel room
Buyins -
1/2 $100
1/2 $200
2/5 $400
2/5 $1000
5/10 $2500
10/20 $10000
Level of play was tighter at $200, you would have 3 grinders for every 200 table and only 1 for $100
Although I saw some DONKEYS play $100 max, I even switched from $200 a couple of times when I saw these guys come back
You really need to stop creating blog sites. Might as well add a blogger and xanga while you're at it
Re: your post, do most places let you take notes on your blackberry?
Can't speak for places in Vegas, but Ontario casinos are generally anal about players using any electronic devices at the table. You will have to step away from the table (or even tournament/gaming area) to take notes.
We almost never make it across the border after getting detained and grilled by US Customs for "bad decisions" made almost 15 years ago. An omen, if there ever was one. They let us through, there's no traffic, we arrive, check in, drops off baggage in our crappy room and I hit tables for 5-5 NL. Buy in for the max and after a few hours, I lose my stack as I raise, get re-raised, shove with flopped two pair - lose to a gutshot on the river (at least the guy had an overpair). After treading water with my rebuy for a few hours, I leave table, make most of the money back playing table games and go to bed for the early start.
I eat breakfast and read the paper, and at 10 am, hit the six-max tourney (10k stack). We are playing four-handed during first level, I flop a 10-high flush, and lose a fairly large pot to forum member Chris (nice guy), who flopped a king-high flush. Very lucky not to go broke here. But then I hit quads, take down another big pot when my flush and gutshot draw hits and I get my stack up to 21k. Then a new guy comes to the table and starts betting and raising every hand. It's crazy, he's pushing me off pot after pot, and I am pretty sure he is getting steamrolled by the deck, but I'm getting really frustrated so I decide on one hand to make a giant reraise on him (from 1.3k to 6k) with an OESD (there's an Ace on board). He calls (of course he does), no help on turn, I get a free look at the river, and can't hit. He bets out and I fold. I lose a few more bets and eventually I come back after the lunch break with 10k (blinds 150/300 a50), pick up AK, slow play it. Get raised from a guy in LP who has me barely covered, I re-raise all in, he says, "I think I have a race here...but I call." Sure you do. His pocket 10s hold up and I'm done.
Go straight to 5-5 cash game, make good money and dominate the table (it's pretty easy when you hit every flop and get pocket Kings six times), then go to sleep.
ME tourney (15k stack), I tread water for the first three levels, until I get in a hand against a short stack (7k). Ep standard raises (same guy who knocked me out of 6 max tourney), and I call on button with AceDeuce of clubs. (I have about 14k.) Flop comes 3d 7c Jc. He bets, I raise, he goes all in. I call (it's only about 2.2k more). He shows 9c 10c, and I am looking to fade any 9, 10 and 8. He hits a 10 on the river and doubles through me. Can't beat this bastard. Then on the last hand before break, I pick up Jacks, raise it 3.5 BBs, and the button (another short stack) shoves. I started hand with about 7.5k, and calling will leave me with just 3k. But he's an aggressive Internet kid, and I put him on either 7s 8s or 9s, maybe AK. I call, he tables AA, and I am crippled. (This is probably the only hand of the entire trip that I think I really fucked up. I should have folded and would have had 7k going to dinner break, and not 3. Still, my read could have been good, as he would have done the same with those hands, as well. I def. wouldn't shove with AA in his position, but he made a good play.) Come back from dinner, table is broken down, first hand at new table, I pick up JJ on button, shove all in to take down blinds and antes, get called by SB with QQ. I'm out.
Worse, I get killed in cash games after. My flopped set loses to massive cooler (higher flopped set) and I lose a buy in. Rebuy for more and lose that as well (can't hit flops, make draws, etc. Just running really cold.) So I decided to get drunk with the rum I have in my flask, and end up playing table games. Bad idea. I get raped like Ed Norton in American History X, and that's that. Go to bed and leave in the morning.
In all, it was a great trip, and I'll be back next year for sure. In all honesty, I made one bad call the whole weekend. And even then, it's a debatable call. I can live with that, I guess. Just sad that the poker gods were not on my side during the tourney's.
River Rock in BC sure did... a minute after each hand I was able to write down the details (in shorthand) without even leaving the table.
Other casinos are not as lenient.
