530K sunday at stars

Anyone else trying to get in the big game through low dollar sats?

I lost a heartbreaker last night in 25th. Think it started with 600+ entrants. Chips to 530k paid to 13th, 14th got leftover cash.

6k first hour
18k second hour
40k third hour
62k fourth hour

Lost it to an all in suckout. Guy had been stealing blinds too much. Played weaker hands far too much too. Made the correct call. (Actually figured him for Ax or worse, based on previous play) My pocket 7's lost to his pocket 3's on the river though. Ahhh, next time.

  • Followed up tonite in same tourney with a 22nd spot. Chips paid to 18th. Ya I'm a little pissed. lol
  • Being drenched in bubble juice sucks.
  • With the 77 vs. 33, this is a nightmare suckout to be sure.

But is 77 really the hand you want to make a stand with for a lot of chips at this point of a satellite? (In a tournament with a *normal* pay-out structure, I'd be much more inclined to call with the 77 against a "crazy".)

Although the details are foggy, here's what I can gather. Don't worry, I'm a PSI. Let's see what the evidence tells us.
    62k fourth hour

With 25 players remaining, the average stack size is between 36K and 42K. Blinds are unknown. I'm guessing they're fairly high, but an above average stack shouldn't feel *too* threatened by the blinds. (Or, if you do feel the blinds are chewing you up, then you should realize that over half of the field with smaller stacks below is getting chewed up far worse than you.)

Average stack to make it onto the money is between 70K and 80K. Assuming you still have ~60K, I see no need to risk a lot of chips here with a hand as vulnerable as 77, AK or JJ, even against a loose, wild bluffer.
Actually figured him for Ax or worse, based on previous play

I'm not sure I want to play my 77 even with this kind of read.

I'd buy that this might be a +EV play, but neither that fact, nor the fact that your opponent showed down 33, really convinces me that this was the way to play this one.

  • Ya, I hear you Scotty. I was thinking the same thing myself. lol I was getting very tired by this point in the game. (it was my 3rd tourney that day lol) This guy was really pissing me off by then too. lol I wanted to get rid of him too badly. (if memory serves the blinds were 1000-2000 ??) After the game I also decided I should have just called that hand, and played it from there. I've tossed higher pairs before so I'm not really sure why I called him on it. Chit happens.
  • Same thing happen to me on a 20.00 rebuy, paid top 12 I think & I went out in 15th.
Will try again today , I like the cost of the 3.00 rebuys...they just take so long to play.
Cheers & Good Luck...hope to see you Guys sunday!

  • 20 seats tonight to be won, and we are down to 22.
    Im chipleader now.
If I manage to bubble here I will think I'll give up.

Hope to see some of you's Sunday.
  • How'd you do Kev?
  • I've been working OT for a couple nights so I'm missing sats these now. Hope I can try 1 or 2 more before Sunday. Let us know if you're in Kev. Good luck.
  • When the tourney stopped as we got down to 20 I was still in the lead.
Running good in tourneys this week, just wish it would roll over to the big Sunday one.
I will be playing Sunday, some of you guys get a seat too!
  • Anyone play against J3NS3N? (picture of a wizard)

This week I won 3 satelites to the $530 in 4 attempts. This is my first time playing satelites too, I am sold on them. I mean there is zero rakes and T$ are almost as good as real dollars. The payout is more even so more positions make a decent amount.

Now the Bad news is I was playing on dial up this week with alot of freezing. I get highspeed in 2 days. Should I risk the $530 on a crappy connections or play some more Satelite and then enter it next month? A tough choice to make, .... but it's a nice sunny day outside hmmmmmmm
  • GL kev.

it'll be a monster. hope one of us wins something.

I came 12th in 215$ limit yesterday and 10th in the 11$ 20k guaranteed rebuy two nights ago and still feel bummed.

    Today could be my day.

  • Eric123 (Linkoping) 948th ...if that makes you feel any better?

Except that all he needs to do is go win one of those 5K HU SnG's and he's got his entries for the next few months :)
  • I was eliminated when I lost all my chips !!!:D
    ((sorry I could not resist:D))
Im not a great comunicator , like alot of posters here , but will post a few hands that "took me down"
  • i blew a 19k stack.

    i suck
  • Made it to Oct 3rd's 250K ($215 entry) event on a 3 dollar sat last night.

Had to mention the crazy luck at the end of it. lol I was about 40k when I got moved to a new table. Then nothing I played hit. I was wittled down to 16K in about an hour. As the button got closer I'm saying to myself...just give me two high cards. lol I get a K 10 in EP. Guy ahead of me goes for a steal on the blinds. I decide this might be my best hand before the blinds hit me, so I make a play. I match his bet, and am all in. 1 guy in MP calls too. Flop comes ( ? K 10 ) I smile. When the third king hit on fourth street I laughed. Tripled up. Then I got pocket aces a couple hands later, and hit trips there for big money. A few hands after that hit AA again. 10 minutes earlier I was at 16K. I finished at 289K. lmao The RNG was my friend for sure.

Best quote this week.... I heard a guy refer to it as the "Random Nightmare Generator" lol
  • No money on Sunday for me. :( lol
I made it past the first 500 people, but had trouble with the remaining 1500. lmao Can ya believe 2000+ entries for that 215K puppy. It's starting to get as hard as those damn freerolls. lol Next time maybe.
  • I finished 68th. Not great, but not bad... like you said, that $215 tournament is getting a LOT of entries. I felt I played my best game, possibly ever, especially in the first few hours... I was re-stealing with impunity, and it was working.

One hand I had KQ, flop AA5, checked to the button who bet about half the pot, everyone folded, and I decided to play the hand as if I was slowplaying an ace, so I called. Turn was a brick, I checked, and he checked (sensing that a check-raise was coming, which it was). River, brick, I bet the pot, he folded. :)

However, the blinds after the first few hours can turn even a healthy stack into a shortstack in no time. I found that I had to wait for real hands, and unfortunately, none materialized. Oh well, there's always next week...

I didn't know you were in it, DJP. I saw harthgosh, timesmog, and CanadaKev there, though. Very cool that 5 of us were in it... if we keep trying, one of us is bound to hit it big.

    Cheers,
    all_aces
  • Congrats Ace! At least you got it all in with the best of it!

    LOL!!!!
  • Not ideal, no... In those crucial last two rounds I was waiting for any ace, and I didn't even get that. So, when 3/4 of my stack was in on the 8,000 BB, I found myself with 62o vs. KK. My 62o did not hold up, despite the fact that it will win about 13% of the time. :frown: I wonder if I should have folded, and put my last 3.5K or so all-in on the SB in the next hand. 62o. Sheesh.

ps: Thanks for cheering me on Jimmi. It was very cool to have you, OrangeJello, and at the end CanadaKev there to give your support!
