I Hate Poker

  • I actually agree with the meat of the original post.

If you don't want to watch it on tv, turn off the tv. Or don't watch tv. Go workout or find some ladies. There are a gazillion better things to do than watch tv.

I would say at the highest limits, the edge is too small that if you're making small mistakes often, that you're going to be a losing player in the long run. There is a great deal of skill involved in being a dominating player but the gap in ability between someone who beats the micro to mid limits online to the player crushing the highest limit and no limit games is probably very large IMO.

I just read an article by Matt Matros who said that nitpicking over decisions that make a small difference in EV in the long term is effort gone to waste. There are bigger things to concentrate on and over analyzing small differences in your game when you have major leaks is a huge mistake in itself. So yes, I do think there are people over analyzing their game. For example, if you get stacked with queens vs kings or aces in a ring game, certainly, there was something that could have tipped you into thinking you were beat(ie, preflop reraise, float and push with no obvious draw cards on turn or river). But, to try to reconscile and make yourself believe that it was an obvious mistake will prevent you from playing a consistent game after the queens vs aces. I'm not sure if this example is true to fit but i think the point is relevant.

Lastly, I've been meaning to contribute to this forum for quite a while into the negative aspects of poker. I feel that as someone who is able to articulate my observations which I deem to be keen, that it is my duty in some part to give a level of discretion to the people reading these forums. It's impossible for me to know your personality, financial background, poker ability, or honesty to yourself, but there seem to be some inconsistencies with the big picture to me. I'm not trying to chastise you or put you down but if you're really that good at poker, you shouldn't really have a job. And frankly, if online poker is only supplementing your income and not bringing any kind of joy into your life, you should quit. It is not worth it to sacrfice your happiness to sit infront of a computer for 8 hours a day. The only reason you should be playing poker if it doens't bring you happiness is if you've been a consistent winner and the level of income it provides exceeds the level of income you would project to have if you were spending that "20-60" hours at a job. I'm a student and over the summer, if i worked 60 hour weeks, which i frequently did, I could make around 650 dollars after taxes which is pretty good for a student. If you're not making that kind of cheddar at online poker and it brings you enough displeasure in your life that you have to go and write on an online forum complaining to people you don't know, i think there is something wrong. Basically, if you odn' thave long term goals with poker or anything else, why do it? This is a question for you to answer and its far more important that you answer this question to yourself. I can speak openly about this topic because I went through it before I learned the ropes. There is a lot to learn about the game and life before you can become a great or even good player and that is why I don't recommend young people to play. Well, that's all for now. If this reply allowed a single person to reconsider their life habbits, then it was worth it. To everyone else grinding it out on the various sites, run good baby. Run good.
  • I hate it sometimes.really.
  • fair enough
  • Poker sucks..

Online poker is a grind, I hate it too. But why did you need to write 500 lines about it?

Your perspective was absolutely hilarious and and rose my spirit. You have found your calling.

Thank you. Thank you for being the testimony of god's existence with your inspirational words. Praise Jesus.

Your profound witticisms about poker have shown me the light...

I will leave the online game... go live and to the casino - so I can preach the words of jesus shown through the poker musings of IHP.

There is a new gospel off the lips of god.... the gospel of IHP.

    .

I'm sure your mother's so very proud. Don't forget to give her some flowers on this holiest of holidays; Oktoberfest where Jesus has commanded us to ignore the 6th amendment and kill little pigs to be stuffed inside of little turkeys.
    Blessed the thigh, lord.
  • I hug you all :wav:
  • lol...I'm effed..I'm dealing with this like a christmas present.

I've seen the package (OP), and I'm going to take time to consider what might be inside such a pretty package (have a smoke break and contemplate the ways I think you've all 'torn him a new one')

...before I tear the wrapping off what is sure to be a truly enjoyable gift.
  • ok...I forgot.

Had a coffee, watched a Mary Kate and Ashley movie [not kidding: it was called "It takes two" and we're actually supposed to believe in it that someone could fall in love with Kirstie Alley on first sight.]

I digress..for someone getting into this thread late like me it has it all...dick jokes, man-whore jokes, a few cheap shots at Jebus...then a bunch of tree hugging hippie bullshit, interspersed with a little CPF buck whoring and just when I thought the thread was dead, it was revived by the following genius:

The over/under on my having jchoi01's name tatooed on my body is negative 1min. (Actually I dated a "Jchoi01' in highschool and am relieved that I will no longer have to go through the removal process)

Sometimes I think flame wars are better than sex..at least they don't include foul tasting antibiotics..and I can't see the uncomfortable stare when I bring up The Olsens in the middle of it, now if I could just find a guy who will talk Joey sweaters and Uncle Jesse leather vests... Time for another cigarette.

I will stop taking my pain med and posting
I will stop taking my pain med and posting

Now go workout or find some ladies.
  • Do ladies sometimes fart when they work out too? Or is that another complete myth?
  • Myth: Women don't fart ever.

Have I not demonstrated to you time and time again that we are comprised of nothing but Sunshine, sweetness, purity and rainbows...our only waste products are love and obediance?

Why go into a poker forum and bash poker?

Its not like I go into an erectile disfunction forum and bash you guys.

    Now that's funny!!!
  • Your post is ridiculous in so many ways. First of all, a person playing only holdem internet poker to grind out a few bucks is hardly a poker player in the fullest sense. He is a person who plays some poker. If you haven't lived the life of a poker player who divides his play between live games, tourneys and internet as well as Holdem, Omaha, stud and other games --- you have no idea what a poker player is.

Secondly, while it makes sense that someone could hate poker and play to make money still, it makes no sense to be part of a pokerforum and spend time posting there. Pokerforums were developed and designed for the use and enjoyment of those who love the game and want to learn more about it, either play wise or many other aspects. This includes the enjoyment of networking with people of similiar interests.

While I do agree with you the poker is not a sport in the true sense, I disagree that it is boring to watch. I have at one time or other played either competitively or recreationally at Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Badminton, Cycling, Golf, Curling and more and find many of them far more boring to watch. Of course, my interest is at a different perpective as I have played live with close to 100 of the top players in the world at one time or another in either cash games or at their tournament tables.

The bottom line is that from the general feel of your post, you probably hate most things and most people which is too bad. If you were more inclined to like most things about life and like most of the people you interact with, you would never write a post like that.

Just one true poker players opinion mind you. Omaha_Ed.

    Ouch. Lol.
