Interesting read. That's exactly what I was referring to. I don't see how it supports your argument though.

Clearly they are not taking someone's job. How do we lose if someone emigrates to Canada and fills a job in an area that we have a shortage of workers?

I suggest you read that article very closely and click on the links to read more. Managers and Executives of Multinationals are brought over on these permits. They also claim they can't find qualified applicants . So all the college graduates, university graduates, and all the other institutions are not able to provide qualified people??

These companies don't want to provide the opportunitys for Real Canadians to gain experience in these jobs or they don't want to pay people.

This actually reinforces my argument. For as long as the government is rolling out the red carpet to all the jobs in this country there will be no slowing in prices for houses. These economic migrants and the greedy forces at work will keep real estate prices escalating.

Maybe dalini is a crop picker out of work then.

    That would be pretty unlucky.
  • Hrmm I don't know much so I won't argue, but I did read almost every post, there are some good arguments. I don't think the houses will keep going up in price so fast, but they will definately keep going up at a decent pace.
Time to purchase land and build your own house hahahha

  • Because of what is happening with the Canadian dollar I think more americans companies will move their work back to the United States and allow those illegals from Mexico and South America to do the work for cheaper. Remember the United States is Canada's buddy and they will do what is right for you.
  • Just did this exchange:

    Exchange Rate: 1.0010 Amount in Canadian $ 100.00 = $99.90 US

FYI - my first trip to vegas: 06/26/2000

    Exchange Rate: 1.498 Amount in Canadian $ 2000.00 = $1335.11 US
  • Heard that some economists think that we will be at $1.10 within 3 years.

Can't answer that without a timeframe in mind.

Within a month 1 CAD = 1 US (probably by the end of the week actually)
    Within a year I can see 1 CAD = 1.15 US
Within 10 years I can see 1 CAD = 1.5 US (vice versa to what it was not too long ago)
    Within 20 years I can see 1 CAD = 2 US

In case you can't tell, I have no respect for the US economy short or long term :D

    Some pseudo-economists say within 1 year ;)

  • I smell Vegas Baby!

    Transaction Amount (CAD) 100.00
    Exchanged Amount (USD) 101.01
    Exchange Rate 0.99
    Date / Time Stamp 12-Oct-2007 , 12:22 PM
  • I love the fact I can buy $100 us for under $100 CND. Time to move state side :)
  • No way. It's just time to load up on cheap American booze, drugs and whores!!!!!!!!!
  • So if one is going to Seneca, is it best to bring a whole wad of Canadian dollars and get it exchanged at the casino instead of using a credit card or my U$ pesos?

Just withdraw from your US$ account and go. That's all I do.

Are you aware of the rake involved with this option?????
  • Am I the only one who finds this dollar situation sickening. This being a pokerforum I find it hard to believe that I am the only one who makes almost all his money in US dollars, either from online play or live play down south. The dollar sinking is a HUGE cut in pay for me and I can't wait til we screw something up in Canada to make it go the other way fast. Maybe Quebec can start action to become their own nation. that made our dollar go down fast last time.

Is this logical? maybe I just haven't had enough coffee..but you buy in for USD which negates the exchange? Just now your CDN BR buys you into a bigger game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the CAD$ isn't actually rising (that I am aware of), it's just the US$ is falling relative to all (probably just most) other currencies.

Yeah, I just don't want to hope for the CAD$ to go down. ;)

  • Yes, those of us with a lot of U$ "pesos", stocks or other US assets will have a lower net asset value on paper. But unless you don't have enough Canadian dollars to live on and are forced to liquidate your U$ now, I agree with Kristy_Sea that it's not that bad. Buying anything in the US with our C$ has become much cheaper, e.g., a car, electronics, books, poker game, or masseuse! ;)

  • I agree, good for the country but still horrible for me. Try winning over 100,000 in a tourney for the first time and you'll feel the pinch when you start converting to Can. to do stuff, even if the Can. dollar buys more. Wish I'd scored that win when it was at 1.60 about 5 years back lol.

I had over 80% probability of doing that along with the championship trophy and bracelet until the river card came, then it took three more consecutive all-in bad beats :rage: to wipe out my huge chip lead at the Ultimate Poker Challenge last week. I will try again next week. :)

Congrats on your WSOP cash-in. If I ever win any money in the US, I would quickly apply for a refund of the 30% withholding tax, then keep all of it in US dollars without converting a single dollar to Canadian. Unless I need extra cash to pay for a major expense such as a house, I would only use the US dollars to play in U$ poker games and to stock up on cheap U$-denominated investments.
  • Blond -- its not my first rodeo lol. I do appreciate the advice though and it would be great for a rookie winner. Unfortunately I can't get the $35,000 they grabbed until after Feb but that is OK. And believe me, I am only changing money as I need it. Anyways, you obviously are a seasoned and knowledgeable player. Thanks again.
  • am I the only one who can't wait to say "it ain't my first rodeo" to someone now?
