It's Back!!! Degree Bingo Tournament

Got my notification today to requesting me to join in the lottery.

http://www.degreepoker.com/registration_agecheck.php

Looks like some changes from last year. Being held at Casino Rama, and only 54 selected winners will participate. Not sure of the blind structure yet though.

Good luck to any/all who get selected.

  • 72 players... if you get in, you are definitely got a horseshoe in the right place. Here are how the 72 will be selected. 72 work down to 36 for the filming. Not sure how the 5 seats at Rama will be decided. Maybe another separate tournament which will make up for the lottery. If you have to pay to get into this tournament, things are a bit fishy. Really a big change from last year when there were 3,000 spots. Maybe due to time constraints as a result of changing locations:

    How To Enter

Entry into the Tournament can be achieved in the following ways:

    1) winning one of fifty-four (54) Tournament seats in an online contest conducted by Unilever Canada at the degreepoker.com website,

    2) winning one of two (2) tournament seats in a Unilever Canada product point of sale contest,

    3) being one of the eleven (11) qualifying players from the2005 and 2006 Degree Poker Championship, or

    4) winning one of five (5) seats in tournament play at Casino Rama.
  • Interesting..thanks for the info...
  • A part of me just died seeing that blind structure. I can't wait to NOT play in this bingo tourney.

Pre-congrats to the eventual winner... your luck is really superior to that of your opponents'.

I wouldn't worry about the blind structure, the difficult part would be getting into the tournament in the first place. If you happen to make it into round 1, you only need to finish in the top 16 of 32 to make it to the televised rounds. Blinds are not as relevant when your only goal is finishing in the top 50% of the field. I think this is the last year for Degree obviously. Its more of an all-star finale of the last two seasons with a lot of the same faces going to be in the top 36 (with the two final tables from the last two seasons getting automatic bids to the 72). Watch out for that cute asian chick; she will likely make it to the final 36 and the money this year.
  • I entered the bingofest.

Yeah, I think the real lottery is going to be getting into this tournament in the first place. Oh well, can't hurt to submit an entry...

I think this tournament was a 3 year deal and we are in year three. I suspect they may have been thrown for a loop when Fallsview were no longer going to host it. I can't really blame Fallsview though. Even though it was a freeroll tournament, it was a huge undertaking I suspect given the number of entrants in previous years.

    Good luck everybody!
  • more Rama details; looks like the 5 Rama seats will be given out in one tournament to be held at Rama in mid-June. Details to follow on their website shortly.
  • I like this format better, don't have to waste your time in a 3000 person lottery, or whatever it was. Guess I'm still better I never got chosen the past 2 years.
  • Hmm I wonder...sup people Craig Macrae from Degree Poker 2005, anyone out there from that year? I remember someone posted on here that I played against...
  • hey Craig, I guess you are into the top 72 this year. A good chance you will get on tv again. Don't fcuk it up this time! Make Red Hot proud! You made some good cash in any case (more than the rest of us).
  • Ya I still don't love the format chip wise, I mean if they are just doing the 72 of us why can't we start with 4000-5000 chips, it will still go fast.
It jumps from like 2000 first round to 500,000 or something in the playoffs.
  • but if you win a seat isn't this being held in Vegas? So you'll have to pay your way there to play bingo...doesn't sound worthwhile to me?
  • Should be interesting, Im pretty sure Im going to get chosen, cuz Im from manitoba! :)
  • No I'm pretty sure its all at Rama.

Cool, but I'm sure I'll be passed over, my luck in these types of things is pretty pathetic.
  • Well I've registered now too... plus I got the bonus registration, because I happened to have a degree product handy. I suppose I'll just start holding my breath now until I get chosen...
  • **THUMP** - Dave passes out.
  • thanks for the update on the 5 Rama seats pokerJAH

???? want to share that info...??
  • When i click on the extra enty area there is no unilever contest, only a safeway one. I thought safeway was an American store, either way there are no Safeways that I know in the GTA.

Anyone know what type of products UPC codes you can use for this extra entry. Not the degree one, the unilever/safeway one.
  • good summary of how the 72 seats will be selected (from TSN news release):

The following is an outline of how the group of 72 players will be determined:

Last year's winner Jim Rich of Sarnia, ON, and 2005 inaugural champion Liam Greig of Vancouver join nine other finalists from the past two tournaments (11 players) [not sure what happened to the other player?]

Casino Rama will be giving away five seats to winners of a select in-house poker tournament (5 players) [details of this tournament as still not announced]

Degree is giving away a pair of seats through contests associated with its products sold at retailers Pharma Plus and Safeway (2 players)

The remaining players will be randomly selected in an online draw on May 29 (54 players)

Basically a 1 in 54 chance to be in the tournament. With around 30,000 entries last year, about a 1 in 600 chance to get in through the randow draw. If more than one person from pokerforum gets selected, we have beat the odds!
  • 13CARDS: Just wondering if you have any updates about the Degree Tournament.

RAMA: The (5) Rama seats will be given away to the top 5 finalist in our June 11th Poker Tournament here at the Casino. You have to be 21 years of age with valid proof of age to enter. Tickets go on-sale May 30th here at the casino Rama Box Office in-person only and will be $360 + $40 admin fee

13CARDS: WOW!!There is no violation of AGCO/OLG rules by having a buy-in tournament to give seats away to a freeroll (no purchase necessary) tournament?

RAMA: No, since buying in does not guarantee you the (5) DPC seats. It also does not stop you from trying to win a seat through www.degreepoker.com or from a point of sale product.

    13CARDS: From the Degreepoker website...

:D I had asked Casino Rama if the five freeroll seats would be given away as bonus prizes in addition to the regular cash prize pool at their scheduled Monday biweekly tournament on June 11, but the manager thought that the only prizes for the $400 special tournament are the supposedly "free" seats!

Just like it would be illegal for the other sponsors like Degree, PharmaPlus, Safeway, BIC and TSN to require Canadians to make a 1¢ purchase to enter the Degree contest, it seems highly illegal/absurd for Casino Rama to charge $400 for a contest entry. It wouldn't make sense that five Degree players had to pay $400 for a freeroll, while all the other players got in for free.
  • the entry fee for this tournament is $360 + $40 with only $40 going to Rama and the $360 will be in the prize pool for this tournament. I have confirmed this with one of the poker room managers at Rama.
  • I contacted Casino Rama again, but the employee does not know the details yet. If somebody finds out about the starting stack, blind structure, prize structure, etc., please post.

CR's Monday tournaments have a starting stack of only 2500 and a Skill Level of only 3. With the buy-in on June 11 being increased to $100 more, I hope that the structure will be improved. Otherwise, Brantford Charity Casino's $500+40 tournament on the same day may be a better choice. To compare, BCC's tournament will have a higher prize pool of $50,000, a lower rake of 7%, double the starting stack, and a better Skill Level of 6.
  • Degree's contest is closed now. Have they drawn th 54 seats yet?

I hope someone from here gets in.
  • Draw was yesterday I believe. I guess none of us got in. Rigged!!!
