Brantford Winter Classic

Brantford Charity Casino is going to hosting a series of 3 tournaments in January. Similiar to the Ultimate Poker Challenge, it is going to be series of 3 events. First one is the $500 held on Jan 22, with the $1000 event being held on Jan 23, and finally the $1500 event being played from Jan 24-27 (Day 1s from Jan 24-26, final table Jan 27).
They are running satellites almost daily. Super Satellites are held 5-6 times a week starting at 10am. With single table satellites running for the $1000 and $1500 event.
Satellites are $110 + $10 and $165 + $15 rrespectively. Winner of the $110 gets a seat in the $1000 and second place gets $100. Winner of the $165 gets a seat in the $1500 with second place getting $150. Blinds start at 25/25, proceed to 50/100, 100/200 with each level being 15 minutes and starting stack of 1000.

  • Thanks, I was looking for this information, but BCC doesn't seem to even have its own website. :o Does anybody know its toll-free phone number offhand?

The single table satellites are crapshoots with a Skill Level of 0, :'( but does anybody know yet the blind structures for the super satellites and 3 tournaments?

Anybody interested in running or participating in our own satellite for the $500/1000/1500 tournaments?

They have a little pocket schedule, similar to a sports team's schedule, with the info. No blind info, but I understand the structure for the tourney and super stats is the same as the last tournament.

  • Can someone post the starting chips, blind levels for these three tournaments. Cheers.
  • I'm definitely going to try and play in a few of these. But it always seems difficult to get registered. Do you have to do it in person, or can you just call in? Also, anyone know how many players before each is capped?

Are you talking about the sats, or the tourneys themselves?

The $500 tournament is 100 players max, as is the $1,000 tournament. The $1,500 tournament is 300 max (100 per day for 3 days).

The super-sats, which the run each day, award entries to the $1,500 event, and are 50 people max.

Also, you can register for the main tournaments by phone, but have to register in person for the satellites.

    Hope that helps.

  • Cool, thanks Mac. 100 players is a tiny field, especially if they are running sat's and super sat's for them every day. That's bananas. They'll be full before you know it. I might have to come out on Sunday and check it out.

I'll definitely try my luck at some sat's for the $1,500, and might just buy in for the $500.
  • great, do you know what the starting chips and blinds are for the $500 tournament?
  • I was told by BCC that once you register, your seat is NOT transferable or refundable. :( I cancelled my registration until I know for sure that I can go.

I was told that the starting stack (5,000), blind/ante schedule and duration (30 minutes for ALL levels) are the same for all three tournaments. If you have a Winners Circle card, you can get a discount on the administration fees.

Aside from participating in rake-free home game satellites, I plan to go to BCC to play in their multi-table satellite with rebuys and add-on.
  • 30 minute blinds, sweet!
  • Does anyone know if these 3 events are re-buy or freeze outs?

    BCC55
  • All events are freeze outs to the best of my knowledge.

The blind schedule looks like its the same one that was used for the Ultimate Poker Challenge. Quite a bit of play before the first break, but average stack will be around 10xBB once you get to the second or third level after the first break.

Yep, they are freezeouts. I think GBH is the only that hosts rebuy tournaments. (I am not too sure about Point Edward, so if they run rebuy, I apologize for my lack of knowledge)

I really hope I lost your sarcasm over the internet. I'm so disgusted with the charity casino tournaments - after the 4th or 5th level there is barely any 'above-the-rim' play. I've played in quite a few and haven't seen any changes. I chose not to play in BCC's ultimate this past September after reviewing the tourny structure. It was nice they incorporated antes into their tournament but it doesn't do any good with short levels and a small starting stack.

Does anyone know of any other tournaments that have skill-demanding structures that don't end up being a crap shoot after the 10th level?

I've never tried the monday tournies at rama or windsor's weekly's...plz let me know!

    Thanks,
  • a lot of the casino tournaments seem to have 20 minute blind levels so 30 minutes seems like an improvement in the right direction; I would think most tournaments would have average stacks in the 10BB range after 5 hours of play. How would the average stack compare to the blinds at this point? For the one day tournaments, specially the lower buyins, I would think this would be reasonable.
  • Hi, I was looking at those handout cards, and does the tournament really start at 6pm? I've just never played a tournament where they started so late, most tournaments I've played start in the morning or at noon.

And has anyone played in the winter classic before? What time does it usually end at, and how many people will they play down till for the $1500 one?

The weekday (err, weeknight) tourneys do start at 6:00.

The $500 and $1,000 tourneys, where they play to a winner, go pretty late (early). The last $500 tourney, I finished 17th, and I busted out around 1:00, iirc. I heard the winner wasn't declared until very late.

I suspect the $1,500 tourney would end much earlier, since they only play to the final 10 for each of the 3 days, with the remaining 30 going to the final day.

    Hope that helps.

The $500 and $1,000 tourneys are sold out. They're accepting names for a waiting list.

  • Blondefish, Your seats ar totally sellable......I have sold 2 $1000 dollar seats already. They just recieved the coins for the tourney today. I have 2 1500 seat left and plan on playing a few more sats. The first hour of the multi is just crazy. I had KK and someone called my raise of 600 units at 75 - 150 blind level with 4 9 unsuited and caught a straight........pre flop too.

Any way have a good one and good luck..... BBC is my home base.

  • Thanks macbb for the info!

And Crazy Fri, damn I wish I knew you were selling seats, I forked over the $1600 for the tournament already. If you still got seats for sale for the $1000 I'd be interested.
  • oh darn i really wanted to play the $500 too, will have to call and see whats happeneing
  • completely sold out, anyone selling their $500 seat, let me know, thanks

I have played there and they run great tourneys. These are all one day. You need a diamond card to play (available free). But for those who are disappointed that the earlier tourneys are sold out at BCC these might interest you.
  • how long a drive from the GTA? what are the hotel costs like? cheers

It's approximately 5 hours (It's about 34 miles east of Syracuse). Of course boarder crossings, no of stops for gas, coffee etc factor into this.

The hotel offers discounts for tournament players usually $75/night. One word of warning is they promised me this last time I went then ended up fighting for it. Get a confirmation #, name of the person spoken too etc. They eventually comprimised but only after 3 days of bitching by me.
  • thanks Joe, I assume its a decent hotel directly at the casino? what's the standard room rate for non-tournament players? anything in the area that might keep the wife/kids entertained during the tournament?
  • Congratulations to forum member muffinnuts for winning a $1500+100 seat in the 50-player super satellite, also on his first try. He is a member of the GTA :fish: Piranas, :fish: the Royal Cup II champions.

He was one of the last registrants before the 50-player MTT filled up by 9:30 on a weekday, so there continues to be many people who are turned away disappointed after making the drive to Brantford (including myself). Due to the demand, there will be an additional MTT this afternoon at 4 PM.

The multi-day tournament starting on Wednesday, January 24 is around 2/3 sold so far. Which forum members are playing?

    1) BlondeFish
    2) muffinnuts
    3) Popkorn
    4) Crazy Fri
    5) Voodoo

  • Did anybody here play in or hear about the results of the first two tournaments? I heard that in the $50,000 tournament on Monday, a quarter of the players had already busted out before the end of the fourth blind level.
  • I played in the $500 tourney. After level 4, which was dinner break, we were down to about 82 players. I busted around 10:30 pm in 47th place. Not sure how long it took to finish, but I would guess at least 4 am, if not later.
  • I play Thursday but trying to swap with a friend that plays Friday since I have a meeting that night I can't get out of.

    On a side note:

Nice meeting Crazy Fri there last Saturday... him and I took turns knocking each other out in the 180 satellites..lol..

    Best of luck to all...
