Mind you, the two Niagara Falls casinos are well on their way to failing thanks to their idiot general manager, the Seneca casino and Ontario's declining economy.
I dunno if I agree with the utter destruction of the already-established casinos - if anything, a casino in Toronto would perhaps give the Niagara and Orillia properties the incentive they need to step up their game in terms of service, incentives, etc.
If competition destroyed existing casinos, Las Vegas and AC would not be the gambling Mecca`s they are now. Competition is good; even necessary to keep existing businesses from complacency.
I would love for a full service casino to go up in the GTA somewhere (I agree Woodbine would be a decent choice seeing as the infrastructure is already in place: the location, the parking, staff, security, etc.) But wherever it goes, I hope that poker would be in the cards. The AGCO seems to have a real aversion to HE poker (L, NL, whatever).
Some Torontonians have expressed concerns about an increase in crime rates in neighbourhoods close to a new casino: with the exception of condos, there`s no real neighbourhood, per se, by Ontario Place or Exhibition Place, in fact, Exhibition place has a police detachment on site, if anyone`s really worried, and I am not aware of any statistics which suggest an increase in crime rates in areas near the Ex while the Exhibition Casino is up and running each year.
Anyway, I am hopeful but not expectant of a favourable decision any time soon.
