The Ex casino is a bad comparison, as it is a temporary installation. A more permanent structure would attract more permanent "issues".

Thanks. I look forward to fillling out the online feedback form or downloading the workbook when they become available. I hope Woodbine will have a casino so there will be choices between driving to Fallsview or downtown Toronto.

i guess i,m the dissenting voice here....the govt decided to eliminate the slots at racetrack program, a successful partnership i might add, pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into the treasury ,,,an ill thought out , meanspirited decision, and in its place, casinos,,,casinos that from all reports are struggling...but yet here we are, the OLG, running around the province pitching communities on getting a casino, which will put more money into american casino interests than govt coffers...but i guess thats to be expected from a horrid , little piece of crap like paul godfrey..:(

I tend to agree....its a poor excuse to tax ontarians again because of financial mis management. There are more than enough options and if they wanted to they could easily re-brand old niagara casino with harrahs and re-do it. Don't get me wrong I enjoy playing poker but why not work on improving what we have in terms of casinos instead of building a new one.

Now that Premier Wynne and Toronto council killed off both a casino and Woodbine expansion :(, the next best hope for a casino near Toronto is Vaughan. The two recommended sites are near Highway 400 and 407, just north of the Steeles Avenue border. So in ~2016, I'll drop off the kid at Canada's Wonderland then I'm off to the Wynn Vaughan Casino. :)

I've heard the final Vaughan vote won't even be until next year ...and that's pre-planning.

Woodbine is back in the race

Toronto city council last year voted against expanding gambling (or opening a casino) at Woodbine. But if the provincial government is intent on opening another casino in the GTA area — which it has indicated is the intent — it has to be at Woodbine. If it goes elsewhere, the racing facility’s chances of survival appear dim.

So says Woodbine Entertainment Group CEO Nick Eaves.

In a lengthy interview this week with the Toronto Sun, Eaves said if a casino opens in a neighbouring community, it would “be a threat” to the survival of the racetrack, that provides employment for 7,500 people.

There are 3,000 slots at the track, but Eaves said it wouldn’t be able to compete if a gambling site in Mississauga, Vaughn or Brampton were to open.

“We don’t offer table games and ... frankly, that’s what people are looking for.”

NEVER going to happen in Brampton, and Mississauga has said the same thing in the past. Might change now that Hazel is retiring, but I doubt it.

Vaughan is "iffy", but Markham is far more likely, if anywhere. Woodbine is the most likely spot for any expansion in the GTA.

Pickering (in Durham region) may also be in the race...but it is at the VERY early stages at this point (more of a proposal than anything else).
