Looking at going for the first weekend (Aug. 18-21) to hit up the first 2 Quantum flights and maybe the CPPT Satellite.

Anybody else looking at going that weekend?

There's a couple of AirBnBs close by that would be good value for 3 or 4 ppl.

I might be down for that...

    Aug 18 - Quantum 1a - $170 - 7pm
    Aug 19 - NL Bounty Builder - $170 - 7pm
    Aug 20 - Quantum 1b - $170 - 7pm
    Aug 21 - CPPT Sat Rebuy - $180 - 8pm
    ...
    Aug 22 RAMA?

PM me if you're still looking to book this!

(I also like the schedule for Sept 1 - 5 week as it stands)

I'm going with family, but nice game selection. :)
After analyzing Quantum, I advanced our house booking to play Event#1 1a, 1b and 1c. I'll have to skip Rama and the All-Stars for Starlight. We shall stay until I'm done with the CPPT $165+$20 satellite on Aug. 25.

In case anybody wants me to buy a piece like at Rama for Quantum $170, GPPT $85-$1,100, satellites, etc., please PM me.

  • I hope I can answer all of those! Pretty sure I can.

    1. Unfortunately, the promo you won applies only to a live seat in the tournament.

    2. I'm 99% sure everyone will need to have a partypoker account when they register and provide that info upon registration. But I'm going to check and get that last 1% of uncertainty settled tomorrow. This is only practical - it's really not manageable to get people's online account info while the tournament is ongoing.

    3. The Partypoker site is incorrect, our site is correct. We have sent those corrections to Partypoker but haven't seen them implemented yet. See GPPT.

    4. Yes.

    5. I am pretty sure no, but this is an edge case I'm going to have to confirm.

    6. The TD and I were discussing this tonight and that's exactly how we're going to manage it for the "regular" starting days. For turbos (15 min levels) it will remain 2 hrs of late reg - i have to work out the exact details tomorrow.

    7. [This answer was incorrect when I posted it originally]

    8. Yes for sure. Remember this is a best stack forward event, so if that stack is smaller than the D2 starting stack you can buy directly in to D2 and that would become the larger of the two stacks and the other would be forfeited. Personally I think there's a pretty decent chance that this would be a +EV decision for an experienced player.

The WSOP has the best practice of making it clear what doesn't go into the players' prize pool, e.g., "7% of total entry pool withheld for entry fees, 3% withheld for tournament dealers & staff." I don't have a problem with the 3% staff gratuities as I see the poor dealers in the withholding-free Ontario casinos not being tipped a single cent, :( but some casinos were improperly hiding the extra deduction.

    [...]

I'm shocked that there seems to be no interest in 2+2 for the World Cup of Cards, but at least there are a few forumers going.
I've noticed discrepancies for the GPPT info between partypoker & Playground, but I'll save my GPPT and other WCC questions when the structure sheets are posted.

We're acutely aware of the different fee and marketing practices out there, and have over the years discussed different options. At the end of those discussions we always come to the same conclusion - that it's best to very openly express things as [Amt to Prize pool] + [Fees] and to break it out like that whenever possible instead of just publishing the total. We keep a pretty hard line on that compared with others, who continually seem to try and move the goalposts and just express a single figure for the buy-in - whether the fees amount is a fixed amount or a %. We also endeavour to make note of the 3% for "Event" tournaments even on things like posters as often as possible - but definitely on each structure sheet, which is an under-emphasized and under-appreciated element of our communications.

A big part of the rationale is that there is still a significant proportion of new players who might not know where to look to find the fees if they were NOT expressed in the way we do it - which we think is detrimental both to the game and to our business.

As far as 2+2 is concerned, I have a theory that it was much more active there when Playground was more of an unknown quantity. People had tons of basic questions because they wanted to gauge whether we could run an event at all, and whether we did things in the expected ways. People already have the answer to that now - we run a solid event, use standard TDA rules and have well trained staff, etc. so the questions have by and large dried up - but that doesn't necessarily indicate a lack of interest - it's more that there's a pretty high level of confidence.
  • Re: Q5 - yes, the number of qualifiers will be published just after late reg for each flight and then at the end if two players are eliminated in the same hand it will be handled like any other bubble - i.e, if they are eliminated from the same table, they will be eliminated in the order of stack size, if they are eliminated from different tables, they will be deemed to have tied for the last spot and that prize will be chopped.

Regarding the partypoker accounts - there will be partypoker staff on site to assist when players register - either to lookup and confirm your account name or create a new one. So it can't get to the money without an account already having been noted for a player.
  • Hey everyone,

I just want to be very clear about a mistake I made here. For the GPPT/Canadian Grand Prix, as for all other tournaments, the 3% withholding DOES apply to the LIVE starting flights. When the prize pool is calculated, it will be removed from the gross prize pool the same as for any event. There is no withholding from the online starting flights.
  • Thanks for the update. Doesn't this mean that there is a 3% withholding on the entire prize pool at the end, from both the online and live buy-ins? For example, if all the U$78+U$7, C$100+C$9, C$1000+C$100 buy-ins adds up to C$600,000 prize pool, then will 3% or C$18,000 be deducted for gratuities? Or will the U$78 from each online entry be segregated to make sure they have no withholdings at the end?

I'm currently watching the GPPT Brighton Day 1 live streams  @ YouTube or the GPPT website (which shows the DTD Girls, who have even skimpier outfits than the Playground girls). Will live streams at GPPT Canada Playground be allowed?

  • No - it will just be from the live buy-ins, not the entire prize pool.
  • It looks like PokerNews will be providing live coverage of all 28 events in 28 days of WCoC, :o possibly by 2015 European Media Person of the Year, Remko. CanadaPoker.com will also be blogging the entire series for the month. Along with mikelbyl's live reporting @ Playground Poker Club Events and updates from partypoker, Dusk Till Dawn, Card Player, PPC Poker Tour, WPT, etc, this could be the most reported and longest series ever in Canada.

Hopefully, there will be reporting of -ANTE RIVER- and Card Dead going heads-up in Event #1 Quantum, PocketsTwos and UBetIFold going heads-up in Event #16 GPPT with a Golden Chip, and me winning a bounty in the final Event #28. :fish:
  • Lol. I'm on board for that!
  • Anyone having issued buying tickets via Playground site?
  • Haven't tried yet. Will have a go at it on the weekend and let you know.
  • It's starting to look like I won't be able to make it to Montreal :( GF is saying we can't afford to spend too much money this summer. Is it possible for me to convince her that a few days in Montreal is similar in cost to a couple days across the border in the US?

Yes, a US trip will cost you > 35% more in Canadian dollars. A forumer got his credit card bill from Las Vegas and the 1.35 exchange rate used was a rip-off compared to the mid-rate I use to give US dollars to friends.

An Airbnb in Montreal is costing me and PocketsTwos only $22/night/person for a three-bed house! :cool2: We all have a much better chance of having more cash after a Playground trip compared to any US trip.
  • $22 per night!? Yeah that might convince her.
  • If I were visiting I think AirBnB would be the way to go. Most of the places I've seen on this side of the bridge (more suitable for grinders who aren't as interested in nightlife) are clean cheap and close, and there's tons of stock in Montreal proper at all price points.
  • Yeah, we got a nice 2 bedroom townhouse 10 mins from Playground for a hundo a night. Pretty good for a summer weekend.

Here's to not staying there much
  • Has anybody else besides UBetIFold & PocketsTwos won a Golden Chip worth up to $50,000 for the Canadian Grand Prix at Playground on September 2-5?
I have played GPPT before and I noticed that the blind levels were 50% more before compared to the revised 8-minute levels for the online flights of "Canadian Grand Prix." :( You can still see the standard 12-minute levels in the "Online Grand Prix" tournaments.

The standard 50/100 first level that was used in previous GPPT such as Brighton have also been removed. :'( While >= 10% used to survive to the end of Level 16 at 3K/6K+1K and cash in the previous GPPT, these two turbo changes will make it a lot harder to make it to the higher Level 16 of 4K/8K and cash.

Is anybody else playing the first flight this Sunday, August 7 at 7 pm, and willing to swap action? After that first flight, I can confirm if my predictions are correct and make EV-maximizing game selection decisions after.
  • Definitely not a fan at all of the revised 8 min levels.

It's basically the same structure as there bi-hourly 6-max turbo MTT's with a few exceptions.

-BF mentioned no 50/100 level in the grand prix.

-there's also no 250-500 in the grand prix

-the starting Stack is only 20k compared to 30k in the 6-max turbo's.

Maybe it would be better off to take only 1 shot online and the remainder of the tickets be used live? I can only presume it would be a bit softer live too.
