  • just like every year, i'm really wanting to go. still have never been to vegas ever. the gf is on record saying she'll go over xmas holidays next year though! sadly, there is likely no way i'm heading out there for WSOP this year :(
  • if you want to play poker, my suggestion, leave the gf behind :)

lol. well she really enjoys shopping while i play.
  • Will be there July 1st to 10thish. Should be making reservations in next few weeks. Plan is to stay at TI to be central hit VSDE, Rio Dailies and/or maybe some Caesars or Golden Nugget events.

    $130-$400 BI ranges.

The GF...I mean wife...will be both playing and shopping so that's already worked out.

She does the shopping, and you do the shipping.;)
  • flights booked for June 8 to 12th. Shorter trip this year. Likely staying at TI and Rio.
  • May 23 - June 2nd

A little VDSE, a touch of Caesars MS, a dash of Binions.....and if time permits 1 WSOP event

Also will be playing the VNEA Pool Championships as well.
  • June 7 to June 15 Playing in event 17 and 24. Both $1500 NL events.
    Staying at Bally's
  • Just booked Rio for June 30th-3rd x 2 rooms. Comped it all, $120 in fees

Then TI from 3rd-9th, (2 rooms) 3rd & 4th comped, then pretty good rates for last 5 days.

Basically 20 hotel nights for around 1k, pretty pleased!

How do you get the TI comped rooms? They comp the resort fee? Not sure if TI is worth the extra $50/night versus the Rio?
  • They used both the wife's and I players card to comp us 2 nights each. I called back and it's 397 total per room for stay. I was actually surprised but it will by our 4th time there, so was kinda hoping they rolled out red carpet a bit. Last time food comps were pretty good

I don't think TI is as economical as Rio though, rooms are pretty close (Rio bigger but not as new for those never having stayed at one or other)
especially if your just playing, but last summer I didn't feel like I was in Vegas at all since I only left casino once. This time I will also have my vehicle.

I want to be on strip for July 4th and there won't be as many friends around so don't want to stay as long there. I was considering a short stay at TI and ending the trip at Golden Nugget to do something different, but figured they were making good enough offer to stay central on strip. I'm less inclined to head to the Paradise Buffet having finally discovered the Rio's Carnival one...

All told with a hotel on way there and back to break up drive I'm looking at about $1500 for travel and accommodation, or $25 per head/day Now if I can keep eating costs reasonable, should leave way more $s to try to make some money :)
  • I really have to make an effort to use my Total Rewards cards on the next trip. I play a little roulette and slots but never get any offers from TR. Must be doing something wrong.

FFS.......I was down graded from Platinum to Gold.....guess I haven't been degen'ing enough the last few trips.

Last year, stayed for same amount of time (10 nights), and was comped all of it...as me and g/f were both Platinum. This year, she's still Platinum, but with my downgrade, gonna cost me $330 because of my downgrade. This is at Bally's north tower.

At least I have an excuse to degen it up this trip.

Someone on 4 was nice enough to do a spreadsheet for this:

  • Got my passport ready to go.

Won my trip last year in a pub league... don't know exact dates but probably mid June.

Doubt i'll be playing in any WSOP events.. in fact 99% sure I won't be unless I win a Satty ... though i'll be playing some smaller games I am sure.. first time in Vegas.. first time in the States (that I can remember) looking forward to eating their cheap fast food.

Actually I was kind of offered a deal.. threw around buying me in and wanting something like 70-80% not sure how serious he was I think it was just a bunch of talk.. but that doesn't really seem worth it to me (as silly as that may sound)

Yea, I hate free equity too.

I know it sounds silly but the 1ks...1500s huge fields...2-3 day events so a real marathon to even cash and then even if I did cash what is the tax on it? 30% or close there right?

Wouldn't it be better to just buy in to a couple hundred dollar tourneys or play cash?

That said.. getting down there I probably would end up playing it..
  • if you plan on staying at the Rio, prices seem to be creeping up in June. Looked at Rio last week on hotels.com and it was $38/night from June 9-12. Two days ago price had gone up to $58/night and this morning it is now $112/night!

If you use the "Friends and Family" code with this link, you can still get a rate of around $45/night for weekdays.

Rio Suites Promotion Codes - Discount Coupons & Deals

Looking at staying at TI which has a promo rate of around $67/night for weekdays.

depends if you want a big six figure score or are happy grind a couple grand playing cash.
  • Just got it finalized.. Will be heading down there on June 1st and coming back on the 4th..

    Should be fun.
  • Say I have ym choice of any hotel i want to stay at.. but the recommend Paris or Ballys if on strip.

I have no idea.. can I get a little help for some Vegas vets here?
  • TI right near middle. Across from Venitian tram to mirage walk to Caesars or Bellagio...

Or Rio since seems like fast trip

What factors would be most important to you?... Proximity to multiple good poker rooms? Decent range of food options nearby?... Cost?... Quality of the room?

If you have a choice of all of them, Aria is probably a good choice. Great rooms... Aria has one of the best poker rooms and there is always 1/3 and 2/5 NL games going on 24/7. 5/10 runs most of the time...

You are only a short walk from Bellagio/Caesars/Ballys north of the strip and a bit longer walk to MGM going south. Plus great food options in all price ranges between Aria and Cosmo.

For me, any decent hotel in centre of strip is great... and I consider the centre of the strip the corner where Caesars/Bellagio/Ballys/old Bills casinos reside...Usually stay at Ballys or Paris as they are right in that area and the comp'd room rates for me seem to be the best at these hotels...

Venetian, TI and Mirage are a bit on the north end of the main strip, but offer lots of great options as well... Depends how many poker rooms or other things you plan to check out and how much walking you want to do...
  • money no object hotels, Wynn, Palazzo, Mandarin, Bellagio, Venetian, TI.

I prefer TI as it has nice rooms, and close walk to Venetian and Wynn poker rooms. Also close to mall. Hate the south strip.
  • Just booked my Vegas WSOP trip for this year. Will be there June 12 - 16. Will play Event #24 and probably cash games the rest of the time.

Booked Air Canada, Ottawa - Toronto - Vegas for the flight down on Wednesday morning and for the return flight, United red eye Sunday night that goes Vegas -Chicago - Ottawa.

Staying at Ballys... Got 3 comp nights and $43 each for Friday and Saturday night.

Looking forward to this year's trip.
  • If somebody has bought you in to a WSOP event, then I would recommend the Rio or Palms (Hugh Hefner Sky Villa for $40,000/night >:D). If you won't be playing a WSOP event, the Venetian has spacious hotel rooms and it's good to be able to walk down to the cash games. I would avoid the 30%-taxed tournaments; ever since I got ripped off 30% of a first place win, I have only played cash games in the US except for tournament packages won.

  • I am heading to Vegas on June 26th, got 2 nights comped on TR card, staying at Bally's (someone said that north tower is better??) we are paying for the Friday, then we are transferring to Polo Towers for a week (I played a local tourney a couple of weeks ago, came first and won the week's accommodation), leaving Vegas on July 6th on the red-eye back to Toronto. In October, I made a ton of cash and hope to do so again but regardless, I will be playing event 51...yes...the Ladies event...look, I get a 90% discount: what kind of woman would I be if I passed that kind of bargain up??

Good luck in the $900+$100 event. The male douchebags that crashed the Ladies Championship Event in previous years should be forced to enter and pay the $9,000 donation to the prize pool. It would be even better if the WSOP just kept the normal $100 rake and passed on the full $9,900 to the ladies, but the WSOP is greedy and will benefit 10 times the extra rake from each male they let register at the cage.

If it's truly your choice of hotels, I would go with Venetian / Palazzo for most poker players. I've heard Aria is nice as well, but I haven't stayed there. These would both be much nicer than either Paris or Ballys (which I would recommend if it was on your own dime).

Confirmed......you can usually book the south tower cheaper, and use the $20 trick to get upgraded to the North.
