Woodbridge Tournament every Tuesday

  • GL to any who check it out tonight. I'm working late, but will be back to win the stupid thing next week... ;)

(BTW, this is not one of those clubs we were discussing in the 'is poker a danger to my health' thread....)
  • I went to the tournament last week. I honestly think i can recommend it to anyone who can afford the buy-in. I didn't do to well and i think the buy-in is past my poker bankroll on a regular basis.

I did it more as a reward for what i considered my good play in the proceeding week. Similar to Dave Sharf working and grinding out the money for his WSOP buy-in (if i read that correctly when i read it)

You have such a mixutre of good, decent and just god awful players there.

I'm glad you brought this up. There is a huge amount of money in play now. Not just the tournament entry fees but the side games. Just what kind of security is in place? You know, Woodbridge...

Is there any issue with police? I'd think once a game gets this big it's gotta start drawing attention.

How much of a rake is the house taking?

I'm in the same boat as Chugs. This is slightly out of my league. But I am definitely building interest.

Tuesday nights aren't great either but once in a while, it would be fun. I'm guessing that as the number of entrants increases, the length of the tourney increases as well. True?
  • Once the tournament starts, the doors are locked and there is someone watching the door at all times. If you win, you will be escorted to your vehicle, if required.

We have been running now for 16 weeks and we have not had a single bit of trouble.

The house takes $50 off the origional $250 buy in to cover Hall rental, security, food, dealers etc....

I assure you, it is quite safe, just ask all_aces if you want another opinion.

In answer to your other question, the tournament usually finishes around the 2am mark and the side games go till the game breaks (7-8am).
  • I am pleased to report that one of our own just took 1st in the Woodbridge tournament.

    ME!

    Sweeeeeeet.

I'll post hands if I can remember any tomorrow, no deal when it got heads-up, even thought the payouts were 7.4 and 3K for 1st and 2nd. I think I had about a 3:2 chip lead, but I wanted to see what I was up against before I opened my mouth, and I'm glad I didn't! No disrespect to my opponent--should he happen to read this--but I went into super-hyper-aggressive mode, and it worked.

So, with all this in mind, I highly recommend the Tuesday night Woodbridge tournaments.

    ;)

  • Congrats!!! I was waiting here about someone from here winning!!! What happened to the monster payout from the week before? $7.4k isn't bad but I thought the winner took like $12k last week.
  • Nice Job buddy!

    - that is a pretty tough game from what I can remember. It's got to feel amazing when you finally win - after a few tough results. Obviously winning any tournament is awesome, but it's got to be that much sweeter when you keep going back with a goal in mind - and you finally achieve that goal.

    Congratulations D.
  • Nice job aces ... good lookin payday

What time did the tournament run till, guessing the final table must have been something like 1am
  • Congrats D.

Well deserved, I'm sure. BTW, nice work on the 200+15 SNG the other night as well.

P.S. mac , please e-mail or PM me about this tourney

There were fewer players than usual... 60 I think, instead of 80 or 90.

You nailed it, Al. This Woodbridge tournament was my nemesis. The field is fairly tough... at least it usually is once you're down to two tables... so I wasn't expecting first in a hurry. But after 5 or 6 attempts and NO money finishes, Woodbridge was definitely nagging at me. So yeah, it felt GREAT to win the thing. I even hugged Azim, in a not-gay kind of way. This is the first 'big' live multi that I've taken first in instead of finishing 'in the money', so it's a great way to end 2004. Not quite as good as Daniel's end to the year, but you get the idea.... ;)

I'm not sure, but it might have ended at like 2 or 2:30. We were actually heads-up for a while... he wouldn't die! I'd manage to grind him down to where he had like 30K to my 230K or so, with 5K/10K blinds, and I'd move in blind. I think this happened three times, and each time it was either a coin flip, or I happened to have the best hand preflop, but he kept winning.
BTW, nice work on the 200+15 SNG the other night as well.
Lol, thanks. You should tell me when you're there, I'll show my cards more often. :)

  • Congrats all aces
  • Very Nice Aces, I played the tourney too yesterday but didnt make the finals. I've played that tourney 4 times and havn't cashed yet, so it's quickly becoming my nemesis too. Congrats on the win.
  • Anyone know if there is a tourney running this week. I e-mailed Azimk, but no response. This was my Christmas present, so I want to be about to make use of it.

    Cheers

  • Just got back from Niagara and I have emailed you back. We are here this and every Tuesday. Will be nice to meet you.
  • Thanks AZIM. Got the e-mail, and unless there's a big storm, I'll be there.

    Cheers

  • How'd last night go?

From what it appears, there were a lot of forum members in attendance (I was thinking of going, but we had my family Christmas yesterday, and it went too late for me to get there in time).

Hope someone defended the pokerforum.ca run!

  • Didn't have much of a shot. Tight table, no cards and that's all she wrote. I played very well, picking up on playing styles very well (see my other post). Took adavantage as best as I could. Most of the competition is reasonably soft, but the blind structure really forces you to accumulate chips in the first two rounds, and you only have about 30 hands to look at. So, getting lucky early is a pre-requisite. I really wish the first two rounds were 45 minutes instead of 20, and the subsequent rounds were 30 minutes.

My bust out hand. I have 2600 chips with the blinds 400-800. MP limps -- he loves limping small pockets and calling raises with them. I'm in the cutoff and raise all in with ATo. Folded to MP who calls with 99. Flop comes JJ8, Turn is a Q. I now have 10 outs, A(3), K(4), Q(3). I say "Queen". Guy to my left says you need a King. I don't bother saying I have three cards to cheer for. River comes with a brick, and IGHN.

All in all a decent tourney. The food was awesome.

    Cheers

  • I really wish the first two rounds were 45 minutes instead of 20,
I believe the first two levels are 30 minutes each... 25/50 and 50/100 each for a half hour, and then the add-on.
the blind structure really forces you to accumulate chips in the first two rounds
Hmmm.... I'd have to disagree with you here. Due to the fact that you only get 2K to start with, and then a 4K add-on at the break, accumulating chips in the first two rounds isn't terribly important. Staying alive until the add-on, however, is crucial.

I believe when I played the tournament last week I had 1800 by the add-on, and then bought 4K. That's 5800 playing 100/200 (might have been 75/150... I forget, but no matter....) and I had actually lost chips in the first two levels.

What has the world come to?
  • Thank you. Thank you very much. I hope you busted out right after I did tonight.

    Warmest regards,

  • I did bust about 10 minutes after you did.

400-800, I have 8400 and AKo under the gun and raise it to 2400. folded to button who thinks forever and finally moves all in. Very frustrated. I don't think it's an act.

I decide that if I'm going to have a good shot at the final table, I'll have to win races and here's a good time to double up in a race. He shows TT.

    Flop: KT9 and I'm toast.

    Nice hex.

Hey Gamblor what place did you finish in the final table last week? I was the short stack you busted with KK right before the final.
  • We are taking a break folks. The Woodbridge tournament will not be running for the next 3 weeks. We will be back on Tuesday 8th February 2005.

    See you all then.
  • We are back this week. (8th). Email me for info.

Hope to see some of you there.
  • I think I'll be going... anyone else?
