Bristol St. presents... The 2007 Bristol Street Heads-Up Championship (Waterloo)
NOTE: Please read the whole post carefully as there have been a few changes since last year. ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT is the section on signing up and the Timeline for the event!
With summer almost here and temperatures rising, the summer (.. and, opps, the fall/winter) event of last year starts anew in 2007. Who will become this year's champion???
The Bristol Street Heads-Up Championship is a double elimination tournament. (ie. you are knocked out of the tournament once you've recieved your second loss, which means it's possible to lose your first match and still win the tournament)
All bracket information will be kept at Bristol Street as well as online. The matches will not be played all at once. When you have a match, it's the responsibilty of the two players involved to arrange a time to get together and play according to the rules listed below. The players are free to use Bristol Street as a neutral location to play their matches. Match results are to be sent to the tournament director once complete.
If a match is played outside of Bristol Street the players take the risk that no Tournament Director will be on hand to resolve disputes. Matches which involve Top 8 finishes are strongly recommended to be played at Bristol Street. Matches that involve a Top 4 finish are required to be played here.
As a reminder, all events at Bristol Street are rake-free!!!
How To SIGN UP **NEW RULE**
There is only one way to sign-up; PM or email me your RSVP along with your contact information; (phone and email). This information will be kept private and only sent by request to people you have matches with.
Sending me this information is your RSVP for the event. Once I get this information, I'll add you to the reserve list. I had a tough time tracking down some people last year, so I want to get this out of the way early this year.
Match Format
Each match will have the same format with each player starting with 6,000 chips. The suggested distribution is 12 x (green-25), 12 x (black-100), 9 x (purple-500). If a different combination of colour and/or distribution is used, both players need to be made aware of this.
Blinds levels are 20 minutes long and breaks are taken on an as-needed basis. The blind schedule is; 25-25, 25-50, 50-100, 75-150, 100-200, 150-300, 200-400, 300-600(capped) I'm anticipating matches to last roughly 1.5 hours (though, of course, could be as short as one hand)
Player of the Year Points
This tournament will be played for PoY points. The Champion will also win a seat into the Bristol Street 2007 GRAND FINAL to be played in December. Points earned will depend on finish and are as follows..
1st - 57 points
2nd - 40 points
3rd - 33 points
4th - 28 points
5th - 25 points
6th - 23 points
7th(2 players) - 21 points
9th(4 players) - 18 points
13th(4 players) - 15 points
17th(8 players) - 0 points

Time-Line **NEW RULE**
This section is also entitled, "How Rob learned a lesson from last year".
The tournament will follow a fair time line to ensure play continues at a reasonable pace. Below are the dates of where the tournament needs to be. Failure to keep up will impose penalites, including the possibility of disqualification.
June 11th: 32 Players - Tournament begins!!
July 2nd: 16 Players left - In the first three weeks, the tournament progress to the point where there are 8 people on the winner's bracket, 8 on the losers's bracket. This means each player will have played either 2-3 games.
July 16th: 8 Players left - In the next two weeks, we reduce down to 4 on the winner's bracket and 4 on the losers, meaning each player will play 1 or 2 more games.
Jul 30th: 4 Players left - Two more weeks, half the field gone again, meaning that players have played 1 or two more games.
At this point, the 4 remaining players will have until August 12 to wrap up the final three games. In addition, the two players out in 5th place will face off to play for the new 5th place prize as well as the additional points that go with it. The final match (where the winner of the loser bracket needs to beat the winner of the winner's bracket twice may either be played all at once or on seperate days.)
Any games not wrapped up by then, must be played on Sunday August 12th. No-showing this day is a forfiet.

The Final Word
The spirit of the event should be of fun and of playing cards in a one on one setting with people you may not get the chance to often play heads up. Particiapte, enjoy the format and feel free to find alternate venues to play early matches.
I'll try and keep Bristol open at least one night each week. If you're having problems contacting someone, please let me know.

Are you going to allow people to play in online (say on FTP or Stars) where HU matches can be played if both players agree? (cheapest on FTP is $2+0.2, and Stars private tournament can be created for $5+0.5)
This allows for guys like myself, or maybe even Joe/Aimee to play from a remote location (of course, if the other party agrees) until it gets down to the final 8/4 when we can come play at Bristol
I think this is a good idea, it might get some of the other guys involved from Ching Hill, and others who come up to play with the Kitchener crowd.
Just my .02
stp
My PM still hasn't been activated and I don't have an email for you. Could you send me an email at ... and I'll send the rest of the contact info?
Thanks,
Don
ps make 5 useless posts about how you like poker and specifically heads up and you are good to go with pm's.
I THINK I have enabled your PM function now.
/sigh
Let me know if there is a fix for this.

- 2/3
Should be find now Braad.
- I don't feel right making it "online". To me it's all about face to face, poker action, and, I feel will lose something if played online. In addition, I can't guarantee that all the players will have online accounts.
- Joe/Aimee - You guys were amazingly accomodating last year with the tourney, but putting together a head-ups day is going to be hard for a couple reasons; scheduling everyone to be there will likely not work, as well as going against the reason I hold this in the summer; to lesson the people at my place so it's not as boiling hot. If there's anything else I can do or other suggestions you have, PM me and we'll talk.
- 19 are signed up, 13 spots are left. If they get filled soon, there will likely be a "Casual Friday" at my place on June 8th, where we'll draw the brackets. If not, I'll wait til Sunday the 10th to get it done.
You know I would not want to miss this!
Johnnie
don't sweat it we won't play then......
Too bad Joe, I would have welcomed the challenge to play you and get my revenge on Aimee. Maybe you will be able to make it out to the West Side Heads up tournament. (Date to be announced)
See you on the 9th
Prophet 22
I think I may have broken a record for the longest distance sign-up!
Braad will be at my place tomorrow night.. I'll get him to e-mail if I can

WB Braad.....
I would love to put your name on the reserve list, but you didn't send me any contact info! Do it and you're in.
