TSN Degree Poker Championship SemiFinal

Wow is anyone else seeing this. Greg Brezina is just takin it to town, he has taken 4 of the final 6 out and is heads up. He has just dominated and won almost every hand. He has dominated lots with hands like AQ s agains A4 os but he also caught a J when he only had a pair and his opponent had three 9's However he is gonna take a big hit just now with a loose all in call against his opponent. He has just went from a 2-1 chiplead to only enough for the blinds. I'd like to see some discussion on this crazy table. I have no idea what is going to happen now. It's some wild action hope I'm not the only one who is watching this.

  • btw, the first two rounds had really ridiculous blind levels and it really was a crap shoot.  The semi rounds had starting chips of 500,000 and blinds I think starting at 1k/2k so it was not really an all in fest at this point.  They have probably edited out 95% of the hands played so you really don't get a feel for some of the 'real' poker moves that did take place at each of the final tables.  My episode is on tonight at 9pm.  I had some good hands but got caught by a guy who was chasing a flush to the river and he got lucky and I had no choice but to go all-in at that point as I was pot committed.  It will be interesting to see how many hands they show of mine tonight.

  • PokerJah, how will we recognize you on tonights episode?
  • Yeah I will agree it definitly looked like an all-in fest thats for sure but I figured it couldn't be that bad. Especially when in the first 10 hands they show 4 people get knocked out. Then when the two final players had millions they only showed all ins. I don't think this is fair to the players because it doesn't really show anything at all. I know they have to edit it but watchin all-in after all-in is pretty boring, I think they should have shown atleast one nicely played hand. I just watched the rest because I wanted to see who would win more than the play. However even saying that it was pretty interesting to see how the luck factor can get you somewhere and then smack you in the back of the head in the end.
  • Let's remember that the only thing you need to qualify for this tournament is an email address.
  • I made it to the 20k/40k blind level so it will be interesting to see how they edit the show before my departure; I went from losing half my chips in the very first hand played, to being chip leader for about two hours, to finally bailing out with a couple of unlucky hands. I did have a hand where I flopped a full house and slow played to win a big pot but they will likely edit out this hand. There was this lady at my table who called me down to the river with a pair of tens (with two picture cards on board) which cost me a lot of chips and I was really pissed because she should have folded but I couldn't shake her off the hand. Look for JH from Thornhill.
  • Hey pokerJAH I just saw the hand that you were talking about with flopping the full house.  You must have been pretty pumped after that had especially when there were three players in the hand.  Too bad you didn't triple up in that hand by sucking in the KK too.  Plus you were the first profile they showed, sounding much like a student of the academe of poker.  Still well played sir well played..... YOUR MY BOY BLUE! YOUR MY BOY! I can't believe that one guy said he was a class 5 hurricane and gonna leave a wake of losers behind him.
  • YOUR MY BOY BLUE! YOUR MY BOY!

lol...just joined the forum, and we have Man-Flirting already.

Jim, I'm PVRing your episode, (I'll watch tomorrow) I must say, it's cool to see a player on TV that you can see in person at Bristol St!

Congrats again on making it so far!

Welcome to the forum. I don't like to be negative...but, this freeroll is a joke.

I entered, The structure and the players were terrible. I know you shouldn't bitch about a freeroll, but to call it the Canadian championship is just plain embarrassing to Canadian poker players. I expected my high pp's to lose to Arag and that's what happened. Fair enough.

I would say 8 out of 10 of the players at my starting table had never played at a casino in there life. Half of them couldn't comprehend doubling the previous raise after the dealer explained it twice. So when I

limped pf two of them started wagging they're finger at me telling me I couldn't do that and so on, to be expected at that level I guess.

Thing is when I watched for a bit on TV last week, some guy still was not aware of how much he had to raise..they had to tell him,and this is the semi-finals, some other donk called a big pf raise with A2 and called every street including the river with 4 clubs on board, despite the fact he didn't have one. And of course we have Landsberg announcing, who doesn't have the slightest clue about the game, I've seen enough of this donkshow myself.

How is any of this bad? Would you prefer to only play against players better than you? I think playing against people that have no idea is +EV.
If they could just charge $500 or something to enter and get serious about the starting chips/blind structure, this tournament might get at least a little credibility. Right now I can't believe any serious player is watching this nonsense on TV.

Yeah, like charging $10,000 USD to play in the Main Event at the WSOP stops donkeys like Jamie Gold from winning and gives the tournament tons of cred.

    Are you dealing Friday?

    I am not a dealer....
I hear the $640's get going around 2 on Friday's. Do they run fairly steady the whole night?

As with all of the satellites, the $640 Step 2 satellites get going as soon as we have enough players present to start. For the Step 2's, that means 20 players. Registration begins at noon and we will run as many as possible (the last one starting no later than midnight).
  • thanks everyone, I expected some slack this morning but it is still early :D The editing really killed me as after winning that hand for around $700k in chips, I was the chip leader for a few blind levels until the Pink Floyd dude sucked out a card on the river and doubled up (he was all-in on that hand but they cut it out for some reason). There was also another big hand where that woman called me down to the river with a low pair and tried to get her out on the turn with a $200k bet, but as you can see from last night, she was calling a lot of hands all the way to the end. I really thought the Adidas guy should have won last night but he wasn't raising the woman and kept letting her take the pot with small pairs. I think the Asian chick from episode #3 is definitely a favourite for the final. I watched part of her semi final round from the stands and she really dominated the table. Still fun for the kids to see dad on the TV.

  • By watching last night's episode, I think I lost some poker IQ. It was saaadd.

    ps.
Screw Degree, 2yrs in a row i havent been picked! :D
  • why doesn't degree set up a charitable foundation and require a donation to enter??... i think that would be an incredible win-win-win, and it would also be more of a prestigious tournament.
  • :as :ad :ac :ah

    Good job PokerJah!

Hey, during the intro to the show was that a shot of one of the Milton Rocks Mafia playing? I think I recognize his mug from the Royal Cup last weekend!?!
  • he actually got eliminated 37th (one spot short of making it to the semi finals); he was the standby.
  • Yes, that was Dave B. wearing the famous Milton Rocks shirt.

did you make the final tables? seems like a lifetime ago. Can't believe I was raising with a flush draw back in 06. That's something I would do now.

Its funny because that day my friend was going down to play (he had a ticket) and I just went to watch. I had never played in a real casino (cash game or tournament) at that point. There were some players that didn't show up so I entered the draw for the remaining tickets and got picked. My buddy got knocked out after about an hour and few hours later I was kicking it back in a $500 room overlooking the falls. They comp'd all the final players a room for 4 or 5 nights.
  • No, I don't think I made it 2 hours, same shit as nowadays for me, card dead or got outdrawn, but had fun.lol 1st time I ever played live.
