Degree #1 & #2

Did anyone watch round #1 and #2 last night?  I don't know if it was me, but they really did a number with the editing.  One minute a player is short stacked and when they came back from the commercial break, the player is now mid to big stack.  Really didn't like the flow of the show and they seem to show about one hand per blind level when in fact there was 30 minutes per level.  Too many commercials and not enough poker.  I expect to have maybe two hands shown before I take the walk of shame.  Which is too bad because I think I did a good job recovering from the low stack in the first blind level, to chip leader for a couple of hours (which will probably all be on the editing floor).  Glad the bald guy got knocked out in round #2 as this guy was a real prick in the preliminary rounds and he continued to push people all in when we were getting down to the final 36, whereas other tables tried to work together and get fellow players to the final 36.  Great come back for the guy in round #1 from being forced all-in with the blinds, to taking it down in the end.  Showing the amount in the pot and the bet made by each player would also have been nice.  Pretty hard to follow the action with only the hole cards shown.

btw, my short appearance will be in round #4 next Thursday at 9pm.

  • so the bald guy was playing correct satellite strategy poker, and the other people were softplaying and colluding, which is illegal? doesn't sound like a prick to me.
  • he had a huge chip stack at our table and kept raising players all in that had no choice but to call. I guess you had to be there. Lets just say he didn't make many friends that day. I know one other forum member that was actually eliminated by this guy. As this was a preliminary round, which was near the end, I think this style of play is a little different than a real tournament where every player eliminated gets you closer to the money. He was raising with sh#t just for the sake of taking out another player.

Is that the point of poker, to make friends?

In a satellite, is the goal not to eliminate enough players to get a seat?

He may have had a non-standard strategy, but I can't fault him for pouncing on weakness and declining to collude.
  • I agree, isn't that the whole purpose of tournament play? Knock out your competition?

As far as other players helping other players out, THAT'S BEING A PRICK! This is poker, not some Beaver Meeting play time sharingsharingsharing event.
  • that's what I like, cold blooded players  :rage:  Hopefully you make it out to Westside next weekend so I can take your money (no mr. nice guy).  I see your point, but this guy seemed to be out of control.  You had to be there I guess.

Here is the original message from the forum member that was knocked out by this guy ( I was to his left):

Thats still awesome man! i was almost the bubbleboy i finished 41st on monday, the blinds ate me up, i had 5500 in chips in the bb for 4000 get a junk hand everyone folds ( the sb was a dead blind) the guy on the puck has to call me and be an ass, then move all in on the flop i hit nuttin , i fold hoping to geta  beter hand with my 1200 left over in the sb, no such luck, im out and im pissed. I really wanted to kill that guy, he has like 20k in chips no reason to call , but he had to be an ass and take me out, but either way great time i just hope he didnt make the final table.
  • Without witnessing this guy first hand, I really shouldn't comment I guess. Some people are simply obnoxious when they play, and all you want to do is give them the boot as quickly as possible.

Still, there's no rule I know of that says obnoxious people can't play if they piss someone off at the table, or to say they can't raise allin every pot to accelerate the demise of the competition. Just have to play your game against theirs.

I think he has about 20,000 reasons to call, I'm sorry but I just don't understand. I'm surprised he called I would have raised to 8000. I understand that perhaps the way he was doing this was annoying, his mannerisms, perhaps being rude about it or gloating and such, that is uncalled for and if that's the case then you have something to be pissed about....just clarify you were pissed at how he acted not played because whether you're playing for money or a seat you've got to always play your a game and I'd be bullying the short stacks too!
  • I think most people have only faced this situation online where you are in a satellite tournament and the top number of players make it to the next round. When you are face to face with other players, and you already are guaranteed to make it into the next round, my point is there is no reason to play junk just for the sake of taking out another player. This is just my opinion. We are talking about maybe five minutes before the tournament is finished for the day after around eight hours of play, so why start being a bully when you are guaranteed a seat in the final 36. I'm glad he got smoked last night. I see you point and in any other tournament I would be in there calling as well to try and eliminate one more player. Another off topic thread.

Well, okay, that MAY change my opinion...MAY. If he was already guaranteed a seat, and there was only a few moments left in the game, then yes I can see where you might be justified in your OP in calling him a prick.

Hahahahaah omg jah, i was also hoping that prick would lose , i came in 41st in th degree tourney , and i proly coulda made 36 but this prick being the huge stack had to be the only one to raise my bb so i would have to go all in!! i wanted to knock this guy out , trust me!!!!!!!!
  • I don't get it. Someone has to eliminate someone else for the tournament to get to 36. Why is he the prick? It just sounds like sour grapes. Please don't say I had to be there. I get it. But why should he not eliminate people, he has the stack to do it.

I think the bigger pricks are the people soft playing their table in hopes some other table starts playing and eliminates someone.
