Top this Bad Beat!
Ok, not sure this should be in the general poker chat, but it is about general poker. So here goes.
The Caribbean Stud Jackpot at Brantford was over 200k last week and everyone was playing. Sunday night I give her a whirl and nada. I come in the next morning and voila the jackpot is down to 70k. Yuck, so much for my big win against the odds.
Then I'm at a blackjack table and hear the story. This woman comes over to the Caribbean stud table and tells her husband that she's going out for a smoke. Her husband says "hang on...I'll come out with you". He finishes his hand and gets a lammer on his spot. The place is packed so any empty spot gets immediately occupied.Â
New guy sits down and plays smoke-guy's spot. Not sure how many hands, but he does hit the Royal Flush. Moral of the story? Well, you write your own. But it does make the runner runner straight flush beat seem just so insignificant.
Cheers

To play Caribbean Stud Poker (or any other table game that you get to handle the cards) all players MUST be seated or they cannot play.

Blackjack - either sit or stand.
Craps- stand, unless you have a medical condition
Funny. I see this somewhat differently.
If X is smoking and Y is the negative outcome (being the loss). Did X cause Y? Therefore making smoking an expensive habit?
I think there is more to the equation.
Let's add new variable, the wife, let's assign it the letter B.
Therefore:
B causes X which results in Y.
Given the assumption that X would not have occured without the influence of B.
If we accept this assumption than X and Y has a spurious relationship.
The inherent link, or non-spurios relationship, is B and Y.
Moral of the Story: Women are an expensive habit.
