WSOP winner lawsuit.

Well, that didn't take long.

I guess it's true. Mo' Money Mo' Problems.

  • "Harrah's does not comment on pending legal matters, particularly those in which it is not directly involved," the company said in a statement.

LOL. In other words: "Why the **** are you asking US about it, you moron." I love it.

Sounds like Gold is going to have to cough it up, given the evidence. I predict a year of controversy... in stark contrast to the last few problem-free years of WSOP Champions.
  • Ok... so if this guy is telling the truth, and he does have the voicemail recording, how in the world does Gold think he can wiggle out of this?

Apparently, Leyser has a recording that says, and I quote

""I promise you - you can keep this recording on my word - there's no possible way you're not going to get your half ... after taxes," it says, according to the lawsuit. "

LOL, if he only had a crystal ball, and knew ahead of time that he'd finish so well... He sure wouldn't of made that promise!  :D

He probably figured he'd finish out of the money, and that way he got to play for free.

There certainly is a stark contrast between Gold trying to back out of a deal, and good ole Steve Dannenman last year.  Now there's a guy who keep's a promise.

Seems to me as if Gold is trying to find the a way to get the most money for himself after taxes. To me it doesn't look like Gold is trying to back out.

I don't know why you assume he's trying to back out. From the OP article, it says:
Gold said in a statement issued through his lawyers that he was "disappointed" that "a person he has only known since July of this year has elected to file litigation rather than continue the parties' discussions in an effort to find a resolution to this matter."
    and the CardPlayer article says:
The money remained at the Rio and, even before the lawsuit and restraining order, Harrah's claims Gold has made no attempt to collect. Harrahs had contacted Gold before the lawsuit was filed, and Gold explained that lawyers and accountants were working out the final details.
To me, it sounds like Gold hasn't taken any money while he is doing his accounting homework. How can you pay somebody else when you don't even have the money? This sounds like a premature lawsuit to me. I think we should withold judgement of Gold (like the comparison to Dannenman) until all the facts come out - the whole "innocent till proven guilty" concept ...

I will freely admit that I have prematurely judged him, but it's only because I listened to his interview on the "Rounders" radio show.  I defy you to listen to this August 13th broadcast and tell me you don't think he's a tool.  ;)

  • Am I the only one who thinks Jamie Gold sounds like Tony Robbins?
  • A tool?  c'mon man...weren't you listening to him...he's a poker GOD...if he doesn't say so himself.

    Man...what a complete dick.

    sstar
  • So I think with that radio interview, it's safe to say he's no Dannenman. :D

Um, thanks for the link. I think Hellmuth has new competition for "God's gift to poker" ...
  • One shot wonder- got lucky with a bizzare strategy that will never work again, cuz now people will call his A$$, and not cower in fear.

I know who Dannenman is but I don't know the reference. Please enlighten me.
  • Allow me- Steve is a "poker gentleman" whereas Jamie Gold is an... oh you know.
  • Danneman isn't the gentlemen or nice guy some make him out to be. 2 incidences come to mind, the Lederer & Hellmuth fiascos. Lederer is a class act, which made Danneman's actions more annoying. Hellmuth's attitude is condescending at times, but in that instance, Danneman was in the wrong.
  • It sounds to me that Gold is trying to get the most after taxes and then split it 50/50. His partner should be grateful his 6 mil won't suffer the 30% tax.
  • What, nice guys can't get pi$$ed at jerks once in a while?
  • I Listened to the Gold interview and Devin is right. The guy is a tool. To equate his winning with some of the greatest accomplishments in sports history is a joke.
  • I predict he will NEVER win another major event - EVAR!
  • Just listened to the broadcast uber tool Does he ever draw breath to actually let someone speak?
