Heads up play

Hi All,

Well one suggestion to get better was to post hands and ask for opinions. I think one of the areas that I am weaker in or at least inexperienced is heads up play. I understand basics but as this is where the money is I would like to improve this part of my game.

Below is a hand that I played heads up this weekend.

how would you have played this one? Should I of just called and seen the flop? I considered AJ to be very strong in heads up but in retrospect I think I should have of made the read that he had a pair at least

Thanks for any feedback

  • Hi,
With the blinds where they were, and the size of your stack, I would say that when he raised you should probably have pushed all in. I doubt he would of folded his Jacks, so you were done anyway. You needed to pick up at least the blinds there, and if he had a weak hand you would have with an all-in raise there.

That's my two cents; but I'm curious as to what anyone else thinks as well.

    Cheers,
    Dave
  • You are basically in push or fold mode. After a raise I maybe push, maybe fold. I do not call to see a flop. I lean more to a push, but I prefer to be the one pushing before any action has happened than pushing with my cards after a raise. If he had pushed I probably call anyways so I vote for a push.

    My (lazy) 2 cents. :)
  • I agree with everyone else.

After the initial raise I would have pushed hoping he would fold with a small pair or weaker ace. If you happen to run into a bigger pair, use your winnings to buy in to another SNG. :D
