My Vegas Trip Report.....Day 2 August 5th....This time with Poker
On Saturday we woke up had some breakfast at the buffet. The food was only OK and we decided to not do that again. We then hit the casino and played a few games until our suite was ready and then changed rooms. The suite was awesome this time we had a view of the mountains at the back. It had two rooms, one living room and one bed room, large bath room with Jacuzzi tab, large shower and double sinks.Â
After we switched room we went down to the Rio to check out the WSOP, while there we met a ton of pros and got a few photos with some of them. They were running the main event and a $1500 NL Hold’em event as well. The room was filled wall to wall with poker tables and players.
They also had a ton of on-line sites that were giving away lots of free stuff, so we got a ton of freebies; hat’s, t-shirts, etc.
While there we met Doyle, Mike Caro, The Grinder, Gavin Smith, Mike the mouth and Greg Raymer. We also got photos of a few other pros playing as well like Johnny Chan, Phil Helmuth, Todd Brunson, John Juanda, Clonie Gowen, and Berry Greenstein.
We were staying at the Luxor and after checking out the Rio we went back to the Luxor and decided to play. They have a tiny poker room there.
They were only running two games, a 2-4 Limit and 1-2 NL. We decided to play the 2-4 Limit, and I decided to "have a few drinks" while playing so I totally didn't take the game seriously.Â
First hand I’m in late position, several people limp in, I look down and have Aces, I raise, every one calls. Flop comes A-K-Q unsuited, Eleanor was in the hand she bets, a there are a few callers between here and I, when it comes to me I raise, every one folds back to Eleanor where she re-raises, the limpers call, and I call, turn is a blank, she bets, the callers call and I call. River is a brick, she bets, every one folds to me, I call and she shows me j-10. After that I got nothing, no good hands and nothing worth talking about, after a few hours we quit and I was stuck about $90.Â
One interesting hand was when the wife was playing. She was early position and raised to $4. Everyone folds around to a new player (new as in never played in the casino before) and he says call and fires $2 in the pot. The dealer says no it is 4. He then throws his cards into the centre and starts to take back his $2 bet. The dealer says no and his bet has to stay and give him back his cards. He then puts in the extra $2. The wife starts getting pissed saying his cards are dead and his $2 should stay. The dealer disagrees. I start speaking up and say that this is unfair to every one in the hand and that there will be serious problems if my wife has Aces and this dude has 2-7 and it comes out 2-7-7. The dealer ignores me and every one else and deals the hand. Two 7-7’s come on the flop, more betting by the wife and the guy who mucked and retook his cards fold. At the end of the hand the wife wins and shows pocket aces. The wife then goes and explains the situation to the floor person and then the floor comes over tells the dealer to never do that again.
Drinking plus playing 2-4 Limit is a not a good idea for me.
