MY FIRST TIME PLAYING PL OMAHA, 12 MAN GAME
ANY TIPS??

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO BE EFFECTIVE?

I AM ALMOST STRICKLY A NL HOLDEM TOURNAMENT PLAYER, TRYING TO EXPAND MY GAME SELECTION.

I WOULD APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK.

    Advice #1: turn the caps-lock off. ;)

    Other general rules of advice...

    Get a good starting hand selection system. In general, you want cards that play well with each other. Since there are 6 different combinations of two cards from your starting four, you want them all to play together well. For example...

    AhAdKhQd is a strong opening hand. You've got a high pair (for trips and boats), double suited twice (for flushes), and the cards are close together (for str8s). A "co-ordinated" hand is what you're looking for.

    In a full game I've found the following rules of the thumb keep me out of trouble...

    - If the board has paired, someone has a boat.
    - If there are three of the same suit on the board, someone has a flush.
    - If there are neither, someone has a straight.
    - Two pair is a losing hand in PLO.

    Stuff the pot with the nuts, draw to the nuts if you're getting the right price, fold everything else.

    This advice is EXCEEDINGLY generalized, but a good starting point for the beginning PLO player.

    12 man one table Omaha game is too many players. Break it down to two 6 player tables.

    12 players x 4 cards each = 48 Cards

    burn card, flop(3 cards), burn card, turn card, burn card, river card =8 cards

    48+8 = 56 = Too many cards.

    Be weary of holding any flush or straight that isn't the nut flush or straight. You want lots of connecting/suited cards. One pocket pair with two random cards sucks, even if it is aces. Protect your straights and flushes from the higher hand. Raise preflop with good starting hands, lots of beginners will call alot preflop. Bet strong with your big hands, cause noobs will call with a straight or a flush no matter what the board is.
