Poker Whiners Weekly

I want to preface this by saying this is not a bad beat story just need to vent a little. :rage:

Last night I decided to hit the local watering hole to play in one of their free bar tournies, I like playing in these as they give me a chance to work on tells, betting patters, etc and playing live is so much fun. Anyways, we start the tourny and I have what can only be described as an uber LAG sitting to my right, this guy opened the first half dozen pots minimum 8-10BB. After a couple of battles with this guy I had a pretty good read on him and figured I'd eventually get all his chips if I played smart.

About 15 hands into the game I pick up KK on the button, 2 mid players limp and uber LAG raises (of course) I re-raise 3X his bet, limpers fold LAG calls. Flop comes 2 :h: 3 :d: 7 :h:, LAG makes a small bet I raise the pot, he thinks for a bit and calls. At this point I know he's on a draw, either a straight or flush. Turn comes 4 :c: he checks and I push the rest of my chips which was a little under what was already in the pot. Again he sits there thinking for a bit, I'm saying to myself "Call! Call!", finally he calls and flips over 5 :s: 7 :d:. Of course at this point I'm very happy, he's pushed all his chips to the middle on a draw and I'm looking good to double up and leave this guy with nothing to speak of for chips. But as the title of this is "Whiners" we all know what happens next....River A :h:, he fills his straight and I'm walking to the exit cursing my bad luck :'( I'm not going to complain too much he did exactly what I wanted him to do the river just killed me.

So off to home I go and figured I'd play a few $10 SnG's online (been running good with these lately), I played in 5 SnG's
Game 1) flopped nut straight, lost to runner, runner flush (out 4th)
Game 2) turned 2nd nut flush, lost to runner, runner full house (out 4th)
Game 3) flopped set, lost to runner runner flush (out 4th)
Game 4) A :h: A :d: allin preflop against chip leaders K7, lost to runner, runner trips (7's) (out 4th)
Game 5) flopped full house, lost to runner, runner quads (out 4th)

So my record for the 6 games; lost all to runner, runner something. :P

I hope you enjpyed this edition of Poker Whiners Weekly.... :D

  • So you put him on a straight draw and when the 4 :c: comes (which could have already filled that straight) you push all in? You bet into the made hand you put him on? Good thing it was a free tourney...
  • sorry my bad I forgot to mention that his check on the turn screamed flush draw, I had seen him do this a couple of times before.
  • That wasn't the freebie at Howl At The Moon was it?
  • no, it was down at the Fox and Fiddle Etobicoke.
  • I didn't read past the first sentence....

So much for trying to become part of this community, I'm not a poker genius so I don't have much to add in the way of powerful insight into this game. I was just trying to share a bit of my own experience with this game sorry if that offends you
  • Man, if i had a dollar for every time I read this, then again this sounds like me to a tee.
Point is been there, done it,heck still am.
win a little more, it makes a person fell so much better
cracking AA, now that still tops my list...
    Cheers

No need. As soon as anyone starts off a post with "This is not a bad beat story" then I know it's a bad beat story and I skip it.

Play enough poker and you will have seen it all. AA cracked by 73 hitting a straight, KK cracked by 92 offsuit catching a 4 flush board, etc etc etc.....

Welcome to the community, if you stick around long enough you will start despising the bad beat posts too.
  • If aces get cracked in a forest but no one is around to witness it, is it still a bad beat?
  • hell ya, cuz you can still whine to all your friends about it!

how about AA losing to A3 in a heads up cash game all in preflop.... happened to me last week :'(:'(
  • MDS, for someone who doesn't want to spend time on this subject, you sure seem to be devoting a lot of time to this post.

The title of the post should have given you a hint, no?  The first sentence did.  So.............why pile on the guy.  If you're not interested, then don't show all of this interest.
  • Bad, very bad... :'(
