I thought these guys were pros...no?

Negreanu's Stack Dented
On a flop of J98, Daniel Negreanu bets $12,000 and Chris Combs calls. The turn is the 3 and Negreanu shoots out again with $18,000. Combs calls and the river puts the 10 on the board. Negreanu pushes all-in, having Combs well covered and Combs calles all-in, showing J10 for top two pair. Negreanu shows 108 for a worse two pair and Combs rakes in the pot to double up to $130,000. Negreanu's stack is now down to $158,000

WHY DIDN'T ANYONE PUT ANYONE ON A Q FOR A STRAIGHT?????

Comments

  • because they'd been playing together for a while and may have developed some sort of *GASP* read on one another!!!
  • YOU COULD SIT THERE FOR DAYS ....I'D STILL FOLD TO AN ALL IN WITH A POSSIBLE STRAIGHT!

ITS THE WSOP MAIN EVENT...AND THE POT WASN'T THAT BIG...WHY RISK A CALL?

DANIEL MUST HAVE TRIED TO REPRESENT THE Q....BUT NUMB NUTS CALLED HIM!
  • how was the pot not that big.... the other guy had HALF his stack in the pot before the river. the only probable hand that would make a straight on the end is QJ, the straight isn't THAT scary.
  • River card comes a 10! ...how is a straight not scary? board reads J 9 8 any Q or a 7 party is over!
He called daniel's ALL IN....even if half the stack was at stake why risk losing the rest of it?

what hand with a Q or 7 in it is calling the flop and turn other that QJ?
  • AQ, KQ, Suited cards which includes a Q or a 7
  • well, i don't see any suits on the board, so I don't know if there was a flush draw, it's possible. If someone calls that turn with AQ or KQ without the flush draw, it's ridiculous.

There are some possibilities, I just don't think the 10 was the obvious straight card, the 7 or Q makes a more obvious straight as far as I'm concerned, someone much more likely to have an open ended draw than an inside straight draw
  • Daniel acted as if he was procting flopped two pair. The other player calls trying to hit a straight, but instead hits his ten which means he would have higher two pair so he calls.
