Alberta Casinos

What's good?

Heading out to Jasper for a week, but will likely spend a night in Edmonton and possibly venture to Calgary for a night.

From what I remember, Edmonton has at least 3 Casinos. No clue about Calgary.

Probably looking to play 5-10 or 10-20. I stopped briefly at Yellowhead last time, but didn't stay long, since I didn't realize the airport was so far from there... I seem to remember that kill games and 1/2 holdem 1/2 omaha games seem fairly common.

  • When are you coming? What night will you be in Calgary?

I don't know anything about edmonton, but calgary has 5-6 casinos with poker (not all are worth going to).

Calgary has a place called the CASH Casino (i don't make this stuff up) that has a tourney every night at 7:30 pm and every afternoon at 1 pm. Buyins are around $50 for freezeouts and $20 for the rebuy tourneys (that is why i asked what night you are here).

Elbow RIver casino has a good room with limits from 4/8 (or 5/10 can't remember) up to 20/40 i believe.

Deerfoot Casino is the new one - haven't been yet. Nor have I been to ABS Casino. Frank Sisson's is a dive and the poker is a joke from all accounts. The Stampede casino has a separate poker room overlooking the casino - it's ok and is across the road from the Elbow.

SO...do youwant tourneys or cash games? Elbow for cash, CASH for tourneys (how's that for goofy).

    Hope this helps.
Oh, check out pokerrodeo.ca - you may find some for useful info there - they have a forum with a section on calgary casinos.
  • What about Red Deer?
  • Frank Sisson's is a dive and the poker is a joke from all accounts.

How can place with a bowling alley be a dive? :D
  • In Edmonton, the Yellowhead is the best place to play poker and it is the nicest casino. The Palace Casino in WEM is 2nd, the Baccarat in the downtown core I would place 3rd. I have not been to the Casino Argyll.
  • Yellowhead (north west casino) is the biggest room in Edmonton with 14 tables. They regularly spread 3/6 w/kill holdem, 4/8 half holdem/omaha, 1/2NL and 6/12 DC with the choices being Omaha, Holdem, Pineapple, Crazy Pineapple, O8. Friday theres a 10/20 that starts at 7pm. Saturday a 15/30 half holdem/omaha starts at 7pm.

Baccarat (downtown casino) only spreads 3/6 DC (same choices as the 6/12 at Yellowhead). But they have the biggest selection of "higher limit" games, all of which start at 1pm. Monday Wed Friday is 5/5 PL Dealers Choice (Holdem or Omaha. Tuesday is 10/20 O8 with a full kill for scoops. Thursday (and Sat i think) is 15/30 half holdem/omaha.

The palace casino in west edmonton mall (west casino) spread 1/2NL and 3/6 holdem. Thats it. Unless your interested in the 5/5 PL Omaha game that starts Sundays at 2am.

Argyll (south casino) regularly spreads 1/2 NL, 5/5 NL, 3/6 holdem.
