Bad Beat that maybe I should have played differently

I couldn't have avoided losing this hand, obviously, but was it not correct to cap the turn?

I dont know...i put him on a low pocket pair or A/6. Maybe should have played it differently, raise more or just fold after he went all in?
  • Spicol, tough one... but 9 times out of 10 you're raking in this pot.

Vlad, definitely call that flop re-raise all in for 3x the pot, there's no way he could have a 2! <-- this is me not tapping the glass

    /g2
  • Min raise is horrible, i suggest never making it. Had you raised say 3 or 4 times that on the flop, it might have helped you make the fold, but man what a bad playing your opponent made... He made a bad call, and was only getting payed on that push if you had A6, or Pocket pair higher than 6...

You mean you've got a bad beat? You were only 80% to win pre-flop and were never ahead after. He played like an idiot, and it sucks to pay off an idiot, but that's not so bad a beat.

Calling the AI when you 1) are this early in the tournament, 2) have a very comfortable M and Q and 3) don't have even close to the nuts is way too much gambling. On the flop, he could have had pocket 2s or 6s or two overcards. Any of those somewhat reasonably merit the original limp and call. The 540 chips in the pot shouldn't have been worth that much to you. Retreat and regroup for a time when you can put up a stronger fight.

bad guy had 7 outs on the turn (3*Q, 3*5, 1*A), so 5.3 times out of 6.3.

Excellent reason to cap it though.

    Sorry I'm such a pedant.
  • haha he "min raised" because it is limit, pay attention.

there is nothing you did wrong and cap it on every street, especially since it is such low stakes, any ace is getting 4 bets in on the flop turn and river and there's nothing you can do about it but suck it up, you win this hand more times than not.
  • Thanks. I posted it because it's similar to a situation I often run in to. I get a great hand, but not the nuts. I want to build the pot but in doing so, give my opponents unbelievable odds to call with just about anything. I then get burned when someone draws to the nuts. But, like everyone has said, I'm sure that I win this situation 9 times (or 8.4 times for g2 ;)) out of 10 so in the long run, I guess I make a net profit.

Also, re: the min raise, I'm pretty sure Chris was talking about Vlad's hand.
  • did not notice another hh my bad

yup..my thoughts exactly after that hand. A hand before that I folded pocket jacks...when Jacks were an overpair to the baord. Porbably should have folded.
