  • LOL...so many donks!!

Did he think it was a cash game, or was he just trying to score a few souvenirs?
  • You can't take chips off the table in a cash game either.
    Unless you are leaving.

So maybe he just has no friggin' clue...
  • On the bright side, he couldn't have had many chips anyway if they fit in his pocket.

This actually happend last year (maybe this year too) when he was moving tables..... :D
  • It is very possible that it was a legitimate/honest mistake. A bunch of online players have literally never touched a chip before, and may not be familiar with many of the "obvious" rules.

That is so true. And very scary.
  • I myself have never played in a casino either just online and home tourney's. but i think common sense would be you can't hide your chips by putting them in your pocket. If he was moving tables what is the proper way ? do they have chip holders or do the staff move the chips? I do think if it was not posted in the rules and not just the fine print that the punishment was harsh.
  • It's actually posted in the rules for the WSOP.

All chips must be visibly displayed at all times. Players may not have tournament chips in their pockets at any time. A player who has chips in his or her pocket will forfeit the chips. The forfeited chips will be taken out of play from the tournament.
  • Good for that dweeb. He deserves to get tossed.
  • I am familiar with Robert's Rules and many house rules, but I had never heard of this rule or seen it in writing.  In the many tournaments I have played in, players are told to move tables without a rack so players that have a lot to carry have put chips in a pocket, including myself.

Everytime I play poker, I notice many rules violations. Most players have not even heard of Robert's Rules of Poker, much less read the rules.

  • How mean...

Some dude drops 10k on this tourney, and gets canned for this? I don't think that's very fair, I mean, he wasn't being malicious - hell, the cameras could verify his chip count anyways.

And, FWIW, I was completely ignorant about this rule, so I guess I'm beneath everyone here, my apologies.

I would have probably read the rules though.

  • Like g2 said, he probably didn't have many chips left.
According to the rules, you only forfeit those in your pockets.....

And ya, if I'm dropping 10k....I am reading ALL the RULES :D
  • I still think he was trying to score a few for his home games!
  • The floor supervisores stated it repeatedly during event #1..."Do NOT put your chips in your pocket when you are being moved from table to table or you will be disqualified. Ask for a chip rack if you need one!". And, it is stated in the rules CLEARLY. The guy that was DQ was obviously moving from a broken table, didn't have a lot of chips and did not want to risk dropping any of them. It was an honest mistake, but a mistake nonetheless and a violation of the rules. I thought I might get penalized when I was moved when, although I had racked my chips, I found it easier to move through the "aisle" than through the "table area". I spoke with a floor later and found out that is also against the rules as the cameras are set up above the tables and not above the "aisles".
  • Don't worry Mark we allready knew you were beneath us. But you make up for it somewhat in your dominance in guitar hero =)

  • The full story from what I read is that the player was moving tables, and insists that
he asked someone from the floor staff whether it was OK. Unlikely that he actually
got that ruling from the floor - but it could have happened.

The rule is in place to prevent people from taking chips from their stash and giving it to
their friends who are in better position to use them. As another member stated, it
    was announced many times.
