Shorthanded~Brantford.

Why is there is such a rush to break down a 20/40 shorthanded table with <5 players if there are at least 2 players that are still interested in playing.

Does anybody know?

Likewise, why do people leave when it gets <6?

  • 1.) Because they're only getting 28 bucks on that table but are paying the dealer full price.

2.) Some think the blinds kill your stack, and there's less $ on the table and therefore less in the pot...plus you're paying session for a table with less $ in the pot.  I however, like it.  :D
  • Mosy players suck at short-handed play and flee.
  • Sorry redoak, but your theory (point 1) doesn't hold water, the dealer gets paid if they are sitting at a table with or without players or sitting in the break room and so on, overheads etc. do not change...the players typically do not want to play short that's why tables get closed. Even at the reduced session, at least the table is making some revenue, a dead table produces no revenue but the expenses are still there. The only case I can think of where the Casino would just close the table would be a staff shortage and tables had to be closed to allow for dealer breaks and so on.

Most* players want a full table.  If there's two tables going they try and accomodate the players wishes to keep tables full and combine the two tables.  If it's in the wee hours and there's only one table they keep the game going as long as there's interest -- even if it's heads up.  At least that's been my experience.

One night I'm playing 10/20 and I'm tired and stuck. I'm on a full table and see a short 10/20 game going. I ask the floor if I can switch tables and he looks at me like I'm out of my mind and says "well I'll see if someone there wants to switch, but I don't know why you would want to go to the short game". I say "Thanks". Immediately someone wants to go to the full game. I make up some ground and leave within an hour. Way faster than waiting for hands at the full game!

nah, I think you just misunderstood what I said.  I know the dealer's don't get a change in pay, and I know they're always being paid but why would they have more dealers on staff on a particular night when they don't need them...ie: for a table that is only giving $28 in session.  It would make more sense to end their or someone elses shift.
  • i love shorthanded live play, if there was ever a 6-7 person max table run daily at a casino, I'll probably be playing there all the time.

They actually built tables for a six handed game at the Mirage thinking they would pick up the Internet junkies who loved to play this game. Alas there was little interest and they dropped the game. Seems like most players visiting a Casino want the full tables.
