$40 Satellites to Pokerbowl Tonight @ 7pm 1/2 NL @ 8pm

Ok everyone, this is the news you've been waiting for. I will try to cover everything as best as I can in this email, but if I've left anything out call me with your questions. We will be holding our first of four Pokerbowl Team Tryout Tournaments on Sunday, August 27th at 3pm. The winners of these four tournaments will make up the Toronto "Giant Killerz" Team that will compete for a chance to win $1,000,000 US at Bally's in Vegas December 9th-12th, 2006 .

The Team Tryouts Tournament format will be as follows:
Dates: August 27th, September 24th, October 29th, and November 26th
Where: The Nuttz Poker Club
$240 Buy-In No Re-buys or Add-Ons
Players start with 10,000 in chips
Blinds start at 25/50 and go up every 20 minutes
Maximum of 6 tables
The Winner of each Tryout will win a
$10,000US Pokerbowl Package that includes:
Buy-in to the Pokerbowl
Casino Entry Fee
Roundtrip Airfare
Hotel Accommodations for 1 week
Team Attire
Appearance on National Television in the Pokerbowl
A chance to win $1,000,000 at Pokerbowl

We will be holding Satellites for entry into the August 27th Tryout Tournament every Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday at 7pm. Other dates and times will also be posted if needed. Satellite Tournament format will be as follows:

$40 Buy-In + $5 Registration Fee No Re-buys or Add-Ons
Players start with 5,000 in chips
Blinds start at 25/50 and go up every 15 minutes
Maximum of 6 tables

For every 6 entry, 1 seat will be awarded to the Tryout Tournament on August 27th at 3pm. Any Extra money is usually paid out to the bubble player giving them the option to pay the difference to join the Team Tryout Tournament (example, if 28 players played a $40 satellite, the top 4 would advance & 5th place would be paid $160, which they could use towards The Tryouts)

We will continue to host similar satellites in subsequent months for the other 3 Team Tryout Tournaments. So basically, every Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday at 7pm from now to the end of November except the last Sundays of each month will be Satallite Tournament days.

We will be competing in The Northern Conference which includes teams from Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis , Milwaukee, and New York. For more info on how the tournament format in Vegas will work visit www.uspokerbowl.com. Note that all dollar value on this site is in $US so unfortunately for us Canadians, the organizers of The Pokerbowl have asked me to build in a 20% buffer just in case the Canadian dollar falls. I hope this about covers everything, if not call me and I will try to answer any questions or will get the answers for you. I am confident that we will be able to put together an amazing team to represent Toronto. Let's show those Americans a thing or two about Texas Hold-em.

See everyone at the tables!

  • Actually sounds pretty cool.

  • Can you PM me the directions please?
  • Did anybody from the forum play?

I am surprised that the Pokerbowl format allows and actually encourages collusion, soft play and using a signal system among the players. Daniel Negreanu spoke out against such a team format.
Can you PM me the directions please?
  • How many players showed up for the Sunday satellite? I wanted to play tonight, but I have to go to a bar tournament. Do you have any later starting satellites on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday?

  • Wow, it looks like a few more big names have joined the line up for The Poker Bowl. I'm not worried since I'm confident we can field a solid team with the great tournament players that we have in our stable. Make sure you guys RSVP me your attendance for the 1st Team Tryout Tournament on Sunday, July 30th at 3pm if you want to go to Vegas in December and kick some butts.

Big Name Players that have signed on with the following teams:

Hollywood: Vince Van Patten, Mike Sexton, Jennifer Tilly, Phil Laak (Unambomber)
    Dallas: T.J. Cloutier
    Baltimore: Steve Dannenmann
Atlantic City: Mike Matusow, Tony G., Antonio (the magician)
Online Aces: Not sure of what city yet, but Scott Fischman is paying for an entire team that he will play on of course, as well as 'Razor' (John Phan) and other big names.

    See everyone at the tables.

  • Any chance of Daniel Negreanu or Gavin Smith joining the Toronto team? Will the satellite on Saturday start at 7 PM?

  • I guess this is what Blondefish was talking about:

In Team Poker, collusion is a part of the strategy to a certain extent. Teammates might get the chance to transfer chips from one player to another but run the risk of it being intercepted. And although players are not allowed to verbally indicate their hands or tell their teammate to fold, they might have a signal system in place to indicate just that.

I'm not sure about a tourney that basically said collusion is a strategy.
  • What time will the last-chance satellites be on Sunday, July 30? If there are the maximum six tables in the main event, are there any other prizes except for first place?

  • The last chance satellite will be Saturday, July 29th @ 3pm. If there are more than 50 people for the main event on Sunday, any extra money will be paid out accordingly.
  • Is anybody else from the forum playing in the Pokerbowl tryout this weekend? I won a $45 satellite, which was not as difficult as competing in a West Side Poker Club event.
  • Fish, how was the structure of the satellite? How many people were playing? I might be interested. Let me know.
  • AcidJoe, the satellite structure is the best that I have played in so far.  The starting chips is 5,000 (not 40, 800 :rage: or 1,000 chips), so this satellite is better than most regular tournaments!  If only the WPT satellites were as good as this.  As stated in the OP, blinds start at 25/50 and go up every 15 minutes.

I went on the first Saturday of the satellite, so there were only six people that played in the satellite.  If I recall correctly, when I got down to heads up, the blinds were still playable at around 500/1000.  A $240 seat is awarded for every 6 players, so forum sharks such as you, stpboy, compuease, etc. should be able to get a seat.

P.S. The last thing I want is to have to go through sharks like you at the Pokerbowl, so please disregard this positive review!  :D

Well thanks for the "shark" mention although the way I've been playing lately I'm no shark, maybe not even a minnow...... lol
  • I will be a direct buy-in tonight, and will likely make it earlier for the sats too.
  • what were the actual payouts for the first tournament (2nd +)? when will you be running the satellites for the next main tournament?

  • Where are these satalites run from? In TO or in the K-W area?

  • Since the posted questions have still not been answered, I will try to answer them. The first Pokerbowl tryout was cancelled at the last minute after I had left home and drove all the way to downtown Toronto. :'( There were not enough players, so the tryout has been postponed to August 27. The good news is that Isabelle "No Mercy" Mercier has joined the Toronto team to take on the other professional-stacked teams.

  • Starting to wonder, here:
Website says Sunday August 20th, you say August 27th. Which is it?

    http://www.uspokerbowl.com/toronto.htm

    Please stop changing the dates.
Originally, this was supposed to be on a Saturday, now it's all Sundays.

Please set a date and a time and stick to it.

  • James, sorry for the confusion. There is an error on the website. The correct date is Sunday, August 27th @ 3pm.
  • Thanks man, much appreciated.

With the addition of Isabelle Mercier, does this mean there will be one less tryout tournament as previously announced? I would think Daniel Neg. would be all over this opportunity being he is from Toronto and loves anything Toronto related.

Yes, there are now only 4 tryouts for 4 open spots on the team.

  • that must be a long satellite... definitely more poker for your dollar than the Niagara WPT satellites; how long do they take on average to finish? do you run more than one on Saturday evening? I may come out on Saturday to give it a shot.

    PokerJaH,

Above starting chips and blind levels are for the main $240 Team Tryout Tournaments. In the satellites, you start with 5000 chips and blinds are 15 minutes. Call me if you need more details.
