Seneca vs Niagara

I decided last night to make another appearance at Casino Niagara now that they aren't charging a session fee. I usually play at Seneca but thought I'd see how the game was at Niagara. I was playing $1/$2 NL.

I got there at 5pm and was immediately seated (I did call ahead). I thought that there would be a lot of good players at 5pm on a Tuesday but I was mistaken. I could have stayed and made a killing but the table was full of people whining and complaining about everything from bad beats to poker rules. So I tapped the felt and left after 2hrs up $189.

So the questions I have are:
1. Are the players at that level really weak at Niagara or did I just get a table of fish?
2. Was this an isolated incident with regards to the level of complaining?
3. Do you have to get there really early to get a seat immediately?
4. Should I have stayed even though the players were putting me in a bad mood?

Thanks

  • 1. The players at that level are really weak at Niagara. Even at the 5/5 level, most of them are weak.

    2. Most of the time there isn't much complaining.

    3. I always call ahead, otherwise there can be long wait times.

I find a lot of people are there to have a good time, not necessarily serious poker players. That's why I generally find the level of play to be weak, & little complaining. There are more serious players at private clubs, & stronger play.

My experiences mostly relate to playing 5/5 at Fallsview, & on weekends.
  • What about the play at Seneca? Any tougher? Or weaker because of the free booze?
  • I find Seneca to be tougher at 1/2 NL. It seems to me that more solid players play at Seneca than at Casino Niagara.
1/2NL at CN is far more profitable then at Seneca, I think that has more to do with the fact there are a lot of college and younger kids in general that play online at micro limits and wanna try the real thing so they decide that NL is better then playing 2/4 or 3/6 LHE. Everytime I go to CN to play 1/2NL I see the same guys playing. There is always 1 or 2 so called regulars that make a nice profit grinding out the newbs. Its more so true now that the pots are raked and no session fees. If you're looking for more solid NL game then 5/5 or 5/10 NL at Fallsview should be all the chalenge you need. Lots of regular sharks sitting down at those games making a nice living. 5/5 NL is a very popular game at Fallsview and it attracts just enough dead money to make it worth the grind, and its $6/30 Minutes session fee which isnot bad for that limit.
