Where to grind within 2hrs of Toronto
So...I may be unemployed soon. I am pretty unfamiliar with the weekdaytime action at casinos around me (GBH, Rama, Fallsview, old niagara, seneca).
I would likely end up spending a couple weekdays grinding 5/10 - 10/20 can anyone relate experiences regarding and average weekday/night at these places. I am leaning towards Brantford but I know some weekdays they have tourneys that may hurt my action....comments?
Also leaning against Rama, GBh du eto cigarette smoke killing me

I wouldn't worry about tournaments interfering with the cash game action. Unless you happen to be going during the week of one of the "major" events (which occur maybe 3 or 4 times per year), you won't often find the cash game action impeded by tourneys.
To some extent, I would think it would depend on exactly where in the GTA you live. Someone living in Mississauga would be closest to Brantford, while GBH is an easy choice for the Whitby crowd.

I'm going there semi-regularly these days, probably a couple of times per week. And yes, I suppose that, according to the conventional deninition, I am unemployed.
Maybe I'm semi-unemployed.
Were these comments about Brantford or GBH? I haven't been to GBH forever (I'm also somewhat smokeaphobic), so I don't know about their weekday tourneys.
I have *never* seen any kind of tournament going at Brantford during a weekday (or weekend) evening, with the exception of the major events; even in those cases, by that point the tourney is typically down to 1 or 2 tables and is taking place outside the main poker room anyway.
To my knowledge, Brantford does not have any regular (e.g. weekly) poker tournaments, daytime or evening.

As of May 31st, all casinos will be non-smoking.
This was pertaining to Brantford, but was just hearsay based on what some old guy told be at an underground game, but a couple weeks ago a friend called to check and there was in fact a tourney going on during a weekday evening...to clarify by weekdays i mean during the week from say 12 noon until 10pm so i guess i mean a weekafternoon or weeknight.

If this is true, then Rama is back in the running..but all i have heard about GBH is negative when it comes to LLHE ring games
I play the 5-10 pretty regularly at GBH, usually weeknights and Sunday nights. There are a lot of regulars, some old and grumpy, but the game is very soft. So far this year I'm averaging just over 4 BB/hr, with my biggest take being $400 in just 2.5 hours.
Been floatign around between BCC, Rama, and a dab of old Niagara playing 5/10 at each.
Tuesdays/Thursdays are the main days I have available.
Rama: Head up on bus and start playing around 1...have to say i am fairly disappointed especially on tuesdays where there will be 2 (at the most) tables of 5/10 that are typically both short for most of the day (7-8 people) and no list in sight. 4 billion 2/5 tables though but can't hack that anymore.
BCC: Hasn't seemed to be much table selection at 5/10 either on these weekdays..and now everyone who plays is familiar to me...and many aren't horrible
Old Niagara: Sucks. Dealers are ridiculously unprofessional...ie. a dealers buddy runs to talk to him from another table to give him play by plays on some hand he just played at the 1/2nl game...over and over. The dealer slows down and actually has conversations with the guy..meanwhile the table would like to see a turn card.
GBH: Still haven't been...could this be my saviour? Will I actually find more than 1 or 2 tables of 5/10 running there on a tuesday afternoon? Comments?
p.s. I am now unemployed and basically plan to go to casino tues/thurs, and often 1 day on weekend
Why don't you just go all out and play the 9pm -> 5am shift?
It is atypical/undesirable for me to be there super late due to committments on Mon/Wed/Fri that I can't be tired for. Everyone understands the reasons for the dead times and I am not asking why...but those are the times I have available, and I am more interested in where.
It seems one solution is to become more willing to play 10/20.
Likely due to weekend traffic, but the poker room was full (2x 20/40 & 4x 10/20 & 2x 5/10). I sat at a 10/20 game which played like a 20/20 game, with every flop raised. There were 2 hands per round on average that were capped with more than 2 callers.
I played for 2 hours and I don't remember off hand that any hands did not require a showdown (meaning a caller every single hand). This cannot be the case, but for the life of me, I started paying attention after 3 rounds with no laydowns - it was unbelievable.
Anyhow, the calibre of play there is much the same as I remembered it and it is a nice, loose, soft game with tons of chips in play. On my table, there had to be almost $10K in play (of which I managed to take $1000 out of).
Anyhow, if one were inclined to sit there in the now smoke-free environment, one might find a great game with some soft opponents. I believe I will be going back at least once this week.
