How to Bust Out of the Degree Poker Tourney in the First Two Hands.

I was extremely excited to get in this year and had been looking forward to this tourney since last year when I didn't get picked.
I got scheduled in the 1D session (Thursday, May 4, 1pm). Arrived there an hour early, so I had time to walk around the casino and also check out the nice view of the falls.

Table 25, seat 9. Right at the front of the auditorium in front of the big projector screen. I look around at all the tables and mine is the only one where everyone is caucasian except me. A couple 20-30 year olds and the rest have white hair and moustaches. There were 230 people in my session. I actually wasn't the first one to bust out. Someone busted out in the first hand where he had pocket 9s and hit trips on the turn but the other guy hit his flush on the river. Now onto how I busted out.

FIRST HAND: UTG raises to 100. Everyone folds to me in LP. I call with KQ. Button folds, SB calls, BB calls. Flop comes Q58 rainbow. Checks to pre-flop raiser who bets out 100. I just call here thinking I would raise him on the turn. SB calls, BB folds. Turn is a 7, no flush draws. SB and UTG both check so I bet out 400. SB calls and UTG folds. River is a 2. SB checks and I bet another 400 thinking he has QJ or worse. SB calls and shows AQ ughhh. Right after I saw him turn over AQ I think to myself that I should have just checked on the river and save 400. However, there's no time to mope as the next hand is already being dealt and my tourney is about to end in a minute.

SECOND HAND: I get dealt AJ. Two limpers, then I raise to 200. SB and BB fold. Limpers call. Flop comes A5J. Limpers check and I bet out 300. One caller. Turn is K. He checks and I go all-in for 500. He calls without hesitation and shows K5. He sees my higher two pair and shakes his head in disgust until the river comes....a king...obviously. The guy to my left looks at me with a stunned face and says "Hooooly shiiiit man." I look at him and shrug...completely speechless.

Afterwards I quickly get up and leave. I was planning on playing some NL there or at Casino Niagara but after my performance at the tourney, I was obviously not in the mood for it. This is definitely the fastest and one of the worst ways I have ever busted out of a tourney. I've lasted longer in a tourney of a game that I've never played before. Good luck to the rest of the forum members that have yet to play. Hopefully I'll get in again next year to redeem myself!

  • Though luck, Dom.

Maybe next year you can suck out on someone for once.

Is it just me, or is the Degree tournament chewing up CPF members, and spiting them out?

Come somebody, I want a success story!!

  • There are still a few days left Johnnie.

But yeah, Degree is killing CPFers.
  • Because it's not a contest of POKER skills!!

    It's a Lottery driven BINGO!!

Blinds don't allow alot of poker to be played, and LUCK rules the day in the end.
  • Hopefully I can bring you a big success story tomorrow! Rasta Style!

  • Good Luck, bud. I AM cheering for many forum members still to play. All the best to all of you, and hopefully SOMEONE can tell us they made it to round two!!
  • Oops. You should have played cash games though, busting out fast is the most +EV thing that could have happened to you.
